We worked to bring the business community and Spokane's downtown community together within this site through the use of various program types. This vast integration of programs range from gym to restaurant, gallery to youth center and many things in between to provide a site that would be active at time of the day. We also worked to respond to the context of the site by bringing the park through the site in a central coalescing space and kept views of the river though the breezeway of the preexist-ing convention center.

was the location of the project. Our team worked hard to provide a space that would be useful for convention attendees and local downtown inhabitants. We also want to continue the park through the site while maintaining the urbanity of the site. We also wanted to continue the breeze-way through the convention center as a vista through our project.

Within this project I worked with Josh Thomson to design the south the building. The plans became an organization of fractured plates fed by two circulation cores. After the plates were laid out I added the slanted column system and Josh added the shear walls as seen in the model.

For nal presentation materials I built most of the model, everything except the hotel tower element of the south building, north building, and the chipboard site. This model showcases the interior coalescing space which would be lled with a variety of users from the various program types within the site.

I drew inspiration from Russian Constructivism, studying works from Chernikov, Lissitzky and other of the period. I

was most intrigued by the juxtaposition of directional elements, often a grid, and smaller countering element,

often a skewed linear element. I saw this as method to organize chaos. Within this project I used it to organized

highly adaptable space.

Plans

This project was focused on dynamic interiors that were

able to be modied for various display

layouts. I also wanted to encourage people not only to observe

various artworks and artists but also to

observe each other. The creation of the the

curved stairs and various vertically punched spaces allows for these

interactions.

Intersection Restaurant

Downtown Pullman, WAFall 2010, Third Year

Page 15: Architectual Portfolio

Within this restaurant I strove to intersect several entities including the downtown community with the university, co-op gardening with restau-rant and exhibition kitchens with dining areas. I Manifested these inter-sections into a geometric intersection of the cylinder, reminiscent of the grain elevators of the region, with a curve. This intersection created an interesting form that opened up to a patio space which could bleed into a nearby parking lot for farmers markets and other community activities.

This project was focused on the separation of public and private space. The form was inspired from Meta-morphosis by Franz Kafka and centipedes. The row house created a sense of segmentation of spaces and I included various mezzanines to create private space for individuals of the family unit.

Roni HornI designed this live/work studio with Roni Horn in mind. It was important to me to provide large spaces with in the studio portion not only to allow for the creation of large installations but also the display of those installations. I also provided a dark room for photo development and a glass oce for meet-ings. The several catwalks would provide the ability to view art from many angles and perspectives. The stairs would not only function as circulation through the spaces but also as display areas.
