    Mittal Steel Galati is an integrated Blast Furnace-BOF operationwith 100% concast, and produces quality steelwhich is required by some of the worlds most demandingindustries including shipbuilding, automotive sector,construction and earth moving, oil and gas sectors.

    Finished products such as reversing mill plate, stripproducts, line pipe, blooms and billets are manufacturedto the highest quality standards.The plant is based by theUniversity City and inland free port of Galati, which has along history in shipbuilding and East West trade.

    So in some ways theprophecy has come true,though in a more benignway than originally thoughtas the plant is now a keypart of developing SouthEast European economy.

    Rumour has it that the landon which Mittal Steel Galati is builtwas once owned by adeposed landlord. When hewas put off the land hecursed it saying that itwould never be used forfarming, but instead wouldbecome a place of heat andfire.

    The very place is now thelargest steel plant in SouthEast Europe everyday spittingout heat, fire and steel with acapacity to produce 5 millionmetric tonnes of liquid steel ayear.

    Mittal Steel Galati Distribution and Logistics department are

    responsible for coordinating the production, documentation

    and despatch of export orders to over forty countries on five

    continents. Therefore buyers need only contact one

    department to progress orders and track deliveries.

    Steel from the Mittal Steel Galati facility has direct access to

    navigable rivers, rail and road transport infrastructures across

    Europe and to the rest of the world via the Danube delta or

    the Danube Black Sea canal.

    Vessels of up to 30 kt are handled at Galati for deliveries to

    other nearby countries or for the short journey to the major

    Black Sea steel terminal at the port of Constanta.

    Here bulk carrying vessels meet the demand for long haul

    aggregate shipments that take Mittal Steel Galati steel to the

    Mediterranean Sea and beyond to the rest of the world

    passing through Suez or Gibraltar on the way.

    The new Mittal Steel Galati business came into being because

    Mittal Steel had seen that the old SIDEX was a sleeping giant.

    Awoken with an injection of capital combined with Mittal Steel

    enterprise, the giant has been enjoying a new lease of life

    and making swift progress.

    From the moment that Mittal Steel and Sidex S.A. joined forcesto form Mittal Steel Galati, a long-term strategy of modernisation began.

    The advantages of belonging to the world's fastest growing steelcompany are that ambitious plans can be realised. The achievementsat the Galati facility in the short time since privatisation arealready evident in production, delivery and positive cash flow.

    However, investments in capital equipment and technology areonly a part of the equation. As in all successful businesses, themost valuable asset at the heart of Mittal Steel Galati is itsexperienced work force.

    From a commercial perspective this is particularly true of thoseemployees who operate at the vendor-buyer interface. It is herethat 'Customer Dynamics' was initiated and quickly grewthroughout the company.
