2. Acute back pain, especially if the pain shoots down the arms

or legs when the back is massaged

3. A skin infection, bruising or acute inflammation

4. An inflammatory circulatory condition such as thrombosis or phlebitis

5. Swollen joints

6. Varicose veins

7. Heart problems

Always consult your physician before receiving a massage if you have ANY reason to believe a massage may not be in your best interest.

3. If unit is going to be moved to a below freezing atmosphere make sure you

drain the tank, pump and cooler completely. Be sure to drain the radiator. There is approximately one (1) pint of water in the coils.

4. Ventilation To maintain temperature control, the AQUA MED should be

placed in an area with proper ventilation. It is recommended that air conditioner vents in the room with the unit or an exhaust fan (500CFM) capable of moving 500 cubic feet per minute be located in the room.

Installation & Operating Procedures INSTALLATION: Unscrew white PVC elbow at pump end of machine and screw in filler tube provided. Add 25 gallons of distilled water (your local bottled water supplier can deliver 5 gallon bottles of distilled water). INITIAL START-UP: Connect power then press START to initialize (INL). During initialization, any buttons you press, except stop will have no effect on the machine. The initialization will take about 90 seconds. The unit should make a full cycle from foot to head back to foot. Once the unit has initialized and stopped, the display will ready RDY. OPERATION: When you press the Start Button, the HHC (Hand Held Control) will read 15 minutes in the display. By pressing Start again, the machine will begin treatment. The Hydromassage is preset to start each session on a low pressure, slow speed to provide a full body massage for 25 minutes. If you desire less time, press the Time Button repeatedly before pressing the Start Button until the desired time is displayed. Each time you press the Time Button the time of the session will be reduced by one minute. If you wish less than 20 minutes, press the Start Button then the Time Button continuously until the desired time is displayed, then press Start. PRESSURE CONTROL: The pressure can be set before or during a session. Each time the Up or Down arrow is pressed, the pressure will either decrease or increase. There are three speeds; they can also be set before or during a session. AREA MASSAGE:: The area massage will run between the two lights above the outstretched body on the HHC. If a full body massage is desire, then leave the lights where they are. You may set an area massage after a session has started by simply pressing the Low Area button when the jet reaches the lowest area you wish massaged and by pressing the High Area button when the jets reach the highest area you wish to massage.



ADJUSTING THE MASSAGE AREA: To make minor adjustments to the selected area massage, you can use the buttons marked Therapy Up or Down. After setting an area, you may press either the area massage up or area massage down button to keep the same distance bewteenn set points to move the area receiving the massage towards the head or foot. Each time an up or down button is pushed, the massage area is adjusted by 2 1/2". ( NOTE very other time an up or down button is pushed the light will not move. A double light also indicates a change in the massage area). RESET BUTTON: At any time, you can press the yellow reset button to resume a full body massage or to set a different area massage, by repeating the same process. To end a session before time runs out, press the yellow reset button twice. The machine will reset all functions including the time and return the massage manifold to the foot position and stop the unit. TEMPERATURE BUTTON: Pressing the Temp Button will tell you the water temperature. To change temperature press the Temp Button and the Time Button at the same time, The current temperature is shown and can be changed. Press the up & down pressure buttons to increase or decrease the pre-set temp. Each time you adjust it, the temperature setting will change one (1 ) degree. The temperature will not change immediately. Allow approximately two (2) minutes for each degree of change. Celsius Readings: By pressing the low area limit and temp buttons at the same time, the temperature will then read Celsius. By pressing high area and temp the unit will read in Fahrenheit

IMPORTANT SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS If your system does not function properly, Re-initialize the system by unplugging the machine for 15 seconds and plugging it back in. Then press start to begin the initialization sequence. OVERHEATING: If the machine reaches 110 F, it will not run, (see pg. 13) CD03 will appear on the Hand Held Control. Inspect the power to the chiller (pg.18 photo #2) to see if it is running, if not, check fuses (pg. 10) LOW WATER LEVEL: When the HHC reads CD01 (low water) the machine will not start. If you experience the pressure going up and down, (pump cavitation) you are low on water, or there may be foam in your machine, add a tablespoon of defoamer to 1 gallon of distilled water to eliminate the foam.

NOTE: Run unit through at least one complete 15-minute session each day to insure that the water treatment system runs to its maximum efficiency!

Reset Pressing reset button once will return the area massage back to a full body massage.

Stop Selection of this button will cause system to halt operation. Does not clear data.

Summary of Hand Held Button Controls



Hand Held Control Functions Session Timer: Press green start button once for 15-minute session. If less time is desired, push time button to reduce time by one minute. Press green start button a second time to start. To program session for 30 minutes, push the time button before the start button. The initial reading will be 0 (zero) and each push of the time button will count doen from thirty (30) minutes. Temperature Control Button: Press temp to display actual water temperature. Press temp and time together the display setting will show current setting. To change temperature use the up and down pressure control button to change temperature one degree at a time from 85 degrees F. up to 105 degrees F (30 degrees C. to 40 degrees C.). Fahrenheit or Centigrade Readings: To change display from Fahrenheit to Centigrade, press low area and temp together. Press high area and temp together to change Fahrenheit display. Pressure Control Button: May be pre-set or during cycle. Machine always starts at the lowest setting. Use up pressure button to increase massage intensity. Travel Speed: The equipment is pre-set to start at the lowest travel speed. To increase speed use increase button. To decrease travel speed use decrease button. Low speed is recommended for smaller area massage and highest speed for full body massage. Area Massage: You may set an area massage after a session has started by simply pressing the Low Area button when the jet reaches the lowest area you wish massaged and by pressing the High Area button when the jets reach the highest area you wish to massage. Your equipment is programmed to provide a full body massage at start up. If you wish to reduce the massage area to a smaller setting, use the limit buttons. Push the set high area to set the highest point of massage. To reduce use the set low area to set the lowest point of massage. Stop: Emergency Stop, may be used to reposition client. After waiting 5 seconds, press start to restart. Pressure will be at lowest setting.



Accessing Special Functions - Special Key Strokes Initialization: Unplug unit for 15 seconds, then plug in again and press start. Wait 90 seconds until unit reads ready. To Read Temperature: Push temp button to temperature. Use the up pressure or down pressure buttons to set temp button 85 degrees to 104 degrees F. To Set Temperature To Centigrade Degrees: Press the Temp and Low Area buttons simultaneously. NOTE: Display will be updated on next Temp request.. To Set Temperature To Fahrenheit Degrees: Press the Temp and High Area buttons simultaneously. NOTE: Display will be updated on next Temp request. To Read Hours Run and Number of Starts: Press TIME and HIGH AREA simultaneously. Numbers 00000000/00000000 will appear. These are 8 digit numbers, the first set represents hours the machine has been in operation. the second set of numbers is the number of times the machine started. Hour Meter Counter: To use the hour meter counter press the TIME and the HIGH AREA buttons simultaneously while the machine is in ready (RDY) mode. The first four digits displayed are hours more than 9,999, the second four digits that appear are hours from 1 hour to 9,999. The third set of four digits will be times the machine was started more than 9,999, the fourth set of four digits will be the number of times the machine was started between 1 and 9,999. One Way Pressure (Option): For units equipped with the one way pressure option, Press LOW PRESSURE and LOW AREA buttons simultaneously will pressure on down stroke (toward the head). Pressing LOW PRESSURE and HIGH AREA button simultaneously will provide highest pressure on down stroke (head to foot direction). By using low speed on pressure stroke, the manifold will reduce pressure on reverse direction and go to maximum speed until it reverses again at which time it will raise the pressure and return to low speed. To cancel one way massage and return to full massage both directions repeat engaging procedure. The word OFF will appear momentarily on the hand held control.



Display Status Messages

SP STOP

IDLE Idle control state, machine needs to be initialized. Seen only when initially plugged in or after power interruption.

RDY Ready Control mode following initialization and indicates the system isS ready to run.

INL Machine is initializing (booting up) system and performing safety checks. Hand Held control buttons do not work during initialization.

RUN Run indicates normal operation when the start button is pressed. Message reverts to timer countdown after five (5) seconds.

ESP Emergency STOP – Stops all operating functions.

99 External timer indicator 99 is displayed when the TIME button is pressed during a mode.

ERR Error message, which is displayed when the water temperature is out of sensing range (60 degrees F. - 125 degrees F.) or temperature sensor is not functioning.

Trouble Shooting

NOTE: Most problems are a result of power fluctuation. If you are experiencing erratic performance the first thing to do is reinitialize the machine. WARNING:

1. Any electrical calibrations or work should only be done by licensed electrician

2. For maximum performance, it is suggested that only distilled

water be used. If not obtainable, use de-mineralized water. Minerals present in local tamp water can cause erosion or build up of deposits that can interfere with operation.

PROBLEM SOLLUTION No Power Check reset buttons on side of control box

Traveling Jet System Check motor (page 9 #12) and shaft connection; reinitialize.

Pump Motor Not Operating Circuit breaker/contactor coil (page 11E).

Erratic or No Area Massage Disconnect power for 15 seconds then re-initialize machine (page 10 #22).

Machine Overheating Fan not operating, Fins dirty, use vacuum and brush to remove lint, carpet, etc.

Pressure Fluctuating Foam – add defoamer and 1 gallon distilled water.

Water Cold at Beginning of Day

No power to heater – power turned off overnight. Check heater fuses.

CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE

INSTRUCTIONS

Here are the instructions you will need to do semi annual service on your AquaMED.

SPECIAL NOTE:

1. The use of distilled water is necessary or the warranty is void. Even though city water may appear clean it contains calcium, minerals, and chlorine, and other impurities which may interfere with operation and cause premature wear.

2. Cleaning and service of the machine is recommended every six months and more often in heavy usage situations

3. NECESSARY TOOLS: Small flat tip screwdriver Small and medium phillips head screwdriver 7/16" wrench Adjustable wrench 3/16" wrench or pliers or vice grips Silicone Hose or shop VAC

**Towels and scotch brite sponge, cleanser (non-abrasive i.e. soft scrub)

CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS

1. Turn off power - remove side panels, padded rail, and barrier. SEE PHOTO #1

2. Inspect barrier and net for wear. (New nets should have 30 squares across and 29 squares if stretched but not damaged) SEE PHOTO #1 **NOTE: replace the barrier if sticky or there are signs of wear.

Barrier Maintenance

Do not use any commercial cleaners or disinfectants as they may damage the barrier

For sanitation use a small amount of alcohol on a hand towel Barriers should to be replaced every 2 years. *Your machine comes with a FDA approved Dura Blue sheet cover, that protects the barrier.. For sanitation purposes (this can be covered with a disposable paper barrier to be discarded after each patient) or wiped down with a diluted solution of alcohol and water, or a solutionof mild soapy water.

3. Clean fins on chiller (vacuum or brush off dust). SEE PHOTO #2

4. Drain and clean the machine. (using non-abrasive cleanser ** rinse thoroughly)

SEE PHOTO #3 for spigot location.

5. Make sure traveling jet system wheels are clean and spin freely. SEE PHOTO #6

6. Check cable for proper tension. If loose, please call 1-800-699-1008.

7. Check motor drive shaft connection. SEE PHOTO #7 If it is loose, the use of lock tight is recommended.

8. Clean the brass heater tube and the small 3/16" hole (liquid level) next to the heater

tube. Do not jar the brass tube or put anything into the 3/16” hole. SEE PHOTO 8

9. Check all hose clamps inside and out to be sure they are tight. SEE PHOTO #3 & #12

10. Check the 1 1/2" hose to water manifold for wear. SEE PHOTO #11

11. Rinse the machine thoroughly, refill it with 25 gallons of distilled water. Add

defoamer and algaecide.

12. Replace barrier & padded rail & side panel.

CPT Coding Guidelines for Dry HydrotherapyRevised 1/2/02

AquaMED beds and chairs are listed as Class I physical medicine devices under the FDA 510 (k) program. At present, there is no specific CPT Code for Dry Hydrotherapy that encompasses all the aspects of treatment. In March 2000 the Multidisciplinary Academy of Affiliated Medical Arts (MAAMA) asked the AMA to provide guidance as to how to code Dry Hydrotherapy since there are several treatments taking place simultaneously. The following is a portion of the response to us, from Dr. R L Ramsdell, that can be found at www.maama.org/new_page_5.htm. “… we enclosed your informational materials and our explanation of the combined methods of action produced by your equipment. We additionally cited its ability to perform simultaneous procedures as currently identified with individual CPT™ codes such as heat and massage that coincidentally mimic whirlpool and, with the larger units generate sufficient pressure on the spinal column to produce intersegmental traction like separation. Their response was as follows: "From a CPT coding perspective, the product insert included in your request regarding use of the AquaMed™ and AquaMed II™ devices indicates that both devices incorporate the use of warm, water-filled surface that acts to massage the affected area, simulating the effects of a number of modalities. However, only one procedure is performed. Therefore, since there are no codes in CPT that specify the services provided by the use of the devices indicated and since both of these procedures are identified as a physical therapy modality, THE MOST APPROPRIATE CODE TO USE FOR THESE SERVICES WOULD BE CODE 97039 (a report should be included with the use of this code to identify the specifics involved in performing the service). “In reviewing this decision, we feel 97039 (unlisted modality, specify type and time if constant attendance) would be the most appropriate provided the procedure is administered under direct (one on one) patient contact by the provider or "incident to" provided the supervision requirements are met for that application scenario.” Dr. R.L. Ramsdell It should be noted that the AMA recently changed some coding guidelines. One change, is a direction that states, “Do not select a CPT code that merely approximates the service provided. If no such procedure or service exists, then report the service using the appropriate unlisted procedure or service code.” According to Dr. Ramsdell, this should not affect those who are billing Dry Hydrotherapy solely for the effects attributable to massage. In his opinion, it would also be appropriate to code Dry Hydrotherapy treatments as massage (97124) since the equipment creates “effleurage, petrissage and/or tapotement (stroking, compression, percussion)”. He also considers Dry Hydrotherapy treatments to be a “Supervised Modality” which does not require direct patient contact. (A modality is “any physical agent applied to produce therapeutic changes to biologic tissue; included but not limited to thermal, acoustic, light, mechanical, or electric energy.”)* Since codes and reimbursement policies change, and can vary by region as well as insurance carrier, JTL can make no guarantee that Dry Hydrotherapy treatments will be reimbursed. We recommend that you contact local authorities, regulators and insurance carriers for their suggestions as to how to best code for reimbursement.

Circulatory System

Through its mechanical action on the soft tissues, produces a reflex vasodilatation of the blood vessels, thus increasing local circulation. From this primary effect, the following changes are also produced. Reduces schema (lack of blood), therefore reduces pain due to chemical irritation of free nerve endings. Increases peripheral circulation from its local mechanical effect. The initial circulatory stimulation causes a slight increase in blood pressure followed by an overall lowering of blood pressure. Helps to facilitate tissue healing through its enhancement of circulation. Reduces pulse rate. Increase the systolic stroke volume. Can break the cycle of spasm and pain, decreasing both. Enhances vasodilatation. Nervous System Sedative or stimulating effect on the nervous system depending on the type and length of treatment given. Reduces sympathetic stimulation and helps to balance the autonomic nervous system. Relaxes the muscles and helps to reestablish proper tonus through its effect on the neuromuscular reflex pathways. Affects the neurotransmitters of the brain and increases endorphin secretion in particular. Can reduce nerve entrapment through the release of soft tissue or muscle binding. Lymphatic System Increases tissue fluid and lymphatic circulation thus reducing edema and enhancing the immune and filtering activities of this system. Increases venous and lymphatic flow. Reducing swelling by enhancing lymphatic flow.

Skin

Helps to reduce tension in the skin and adjoining tissues as well as increase its circulation.

Musculoskeletal Systems

Increases blood supply and nutrition to muscles .Speeds the elimination of metabolic wastes including lactic acid. Thus, it helps muscles recover more quickly from exertion and fatigue. Relaxes muscles, reducing spasm, tension, and cramping Improves muscle tone and helps prevent, or delay, muscular atrophy resulting from inactivity. Reduces adhesions and fibrosis thus freeing muscle fibers and fascia (connective tissue) from restrictive binding. Can stretch the connective tissue, rearrange its shape, and reduce myofascial strain and chronic shortening. Improves circulation and nutrition of the joints, increasing joint range of motion. Helps to reestablish proper tone in the muscles through its effect on the proprioceptive reflexes. Reduces muscle and soft tissue pain and can reduce and eliminate "trigger points". Reduces joint strain and compression through releasing tight muscles and tendons. Increases case and efficiency of movement. Supports increased work-capacity and metabolism Can stimulate muscle contraction.

Excretory System Increases the excretion (via the kidneys) of fluids and waste products. Can facilitate elimination through the large intestine by mechanically stimulating peristalsis and improving tone. Respiratory System Deepens and normalizes the breathing pattern through relaxation and release of tension in the breathing structures, both the rib cage and muscles of respiration.

Limited Warranty JTL Enterprises, Inc. will repair or replace, at the company's option, any parts found to be defective due to workmanship or materials for the following periods. "Warranty Authorization Codes" will be assigned by JTL. The code must appear on the service warranty invoice to be valid. In the event of Holidays and After hours (EST), etc., serving the customer should take priority and the code must be obtained on the next business day. Time standards for certain repairs will be established and published on an ongoing basis. (JTL) reserves the final payment approval for all hours reported on the work performed. A service report must be included with any invoice explaining the problem, work performed, parts replaced and travel time required. Service Rate Schedule A) $15.00 per hour for travel time up to 2 hours

B) $30.00 per hour for on the job repairs All hourly rates are calculated to the nearest 15-minute increments. On the job repair is subject to time standards that will be established on an ongoing basis. This warranty does not apply if: (I) the product has been repaired by anyone other than a company Authorized Service Representative; (II) the product has been damaged by improper connection or disconnection with any electrical device; (III) the product has been damaged by an act of God, accident, misuse, abuse negligence or any other use other then the product's intended use as set forth in the company's specifications; (V) the product has suffered damage from a blow or external trauma; (VI) distilled water was not used. (The warranty does not cover cosmetic damage.) The sole remedy under this warranty is the repair or replacement of the product provided herein. In no event shall the company be liable or responsible for any incidental consequential or indirect damages for breach of any express of implied warranty on this product. In any event, if damages are awarded, they will be limited to the cost of the product.

Disclaimers JTL shall not be liable for loss of use of AquaMED or other incidental or consequential costs associated with the installation of AquaMED. (Any implied warranty shall have a duration equal to the duration of the applicable warranty stated above.) Under no circumstances shall JTL, or any of its' representatives be held liable for injury to any person or damage to any property, however arising. Limited Warranty

From JTL ENTERPRISES INC.: This limited non-transferable warranty is extended from JTL ENTERPRISES, INC. to the original purchaser of Dry Water Massage Equipment (Herein "Equipment"). What we will do: JTL ENTERPRISES will administer only the warranty provided by the original component part or equipment manufacturer. What is not covered: This warranty does not cover damage resulting from accidents, alteration, misuse, abuse, tampering, improper or unauthorized maintenance or repairs, use contrary to published instructions, or purchaser's negligence or neglect. Purchaser must place the equipment in an area that conforms to JTL Enterprises published space, electrical and environmental requirements. Remedies and Limitations: The sale and exclusive remedies under this Limited Warranty shall be repair and/or replacement as set forth above except where prohibited by law. JTL ENTERPRISES, INC. shall not be responsible for any damages, whether direct, indirect, consequential, incidental or economic in this limited warranty. Note: Some states may not allow the exclusion or limitation of consequential or incidental damages so the above limitation or exclusion may not apply to you. This thereby limits the duration of all implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose to time listed on warranty sheet. Note: Some states may not allow limitations on how long an implied warranty lasts, so the above limitations may not apply to you. No Other Warranties Exist: No other warranties, express or implied, exist with respect to the equipment. Oral statements by salespersons do not constitute warranties. Salespersons are not authorized to make warranties with respect to the equipment. This entire agreement is embodied in this writing and no other warranties exist. This writing constitutes the final expression of the parties' agreement and is the complete and final statement of the terms of the agreement.
