Angel Lopez Tennis Academy Summer Camps

Ages 5 – 18June 18 – August 17th

My Perspective

Rock N’ Roll MarathonSunday June 2nd. Club will Open at 12:00 noon due to road closures for the marathon.

National Handball TournamentSDTRC will be hosting the USHA National Masters Handball Tournament April 11–14. Indoor courts will be unavailable during this time period.

Court LightsWe got great feedback from the tennis membership on the new court lights fixtures that were installed on courts 1 & 4. Our plan for this year is to put new lights on court 6 & 7 which will complete the lite courts on the east side of the club. After that we will start replacing the courts on the west side. Each court conversion costs approximately $8,000.

Court ResurfacingCourts 10 & 11 are our last two courts that are all green. These two courts will be resurfaced in the US Open colors such as our other 21 courts.

Angel’sColumn

Our Angel Lopez Tennis Academy Summer Camps at SDTRC begin on June 17th and go to August 23rd. Give your child the gift of TENNIS and enroll him/her in one week of our (3) full day camps or (7) mini camps. For more info go to www.sdtrc.com or pick up a brochure at our front desk.

I had an opportunity in early March to meet with Paul Annacone, coach of Roger Federer and Pete Sampras. We both gave presentations at the Malibu Racquet Club on Coaching. It was great to hear his insights on coaching such great players.

I signed a contract this year to be part of the Speakers Bureau for Wilson Racquet Sports, and recently spoke at the USPTA San Diego Division Convention held in La Jolla. I spoke about the Philosophy of Coaching.

I would like to congratulate my former student Kelly Jones for being inducted to the Intercollegiate Tennis Hall of Fame this year. Kelly played at Pepperdine University, was 3-time All American, 2-time NCAA doubles champion, with two different partners. He was #1 in the world in ATP Doubles in 1992, he won 2 ATP singles titles. When I coached World Team Tennis, he was 1994 WTT player of the Year.

Have Fun, play hard!!!

Courtside Grill Under SDTRC ManagementFor those that aren’t aware, SDTRC has taken back ownership of the courtside grill. Brian Olson has taken on the duty of Grill Manager. The menu has changed, new employees hired, we are using new food companies to supply our products and the response from those that have tried the grill have spoken very positive about the quality and service. We are aware over the past that many members had stopped eating at the grill due to the inconsistency and quality of the food. We ask for you to give it another try. We think you will be pleased.

Having a food operation at the club is a service and amenity for our membership. It is not a profit center and we encourage the whole membership to help support it. We hope you are all happy with the changes and will start using this amenity often.

We would like to remind the membership that you are not allowed to bring outside food or beverage into the club. This is even more important being the Club is now running the grill.

CondolencesI would like to offer my condolences to the Neves family for the passing of Kendra Neves.

Introducing Balanced Body BarreI am thrilled to announce that the Balanced Body Barre program will now be offered at SDTRC as a new Group Fitness class.

The Barre workout is a fun, full body workout set to upbeat music. It combines the best of the Lotte Berke method, Ballet technique and Pilates movement principles to provide an energizing, dance based workout that strengthens, stretches and tones the whole body.

Balanced Body Barre is designed to be fun and free with out causing stress and strain on the body. Balanced Body Movement Principles of core activation, proper alignment and balanced muscle development form the foundation of every class.

• Each exercise focuses on precise movements to strengthen specific muscle groups with proper form.

• Muscles are worked to fatigue to provide optimum results.

• Strengthening work is followed by stretches to lengthen and release tension from the fatigued muscles creating a longer and leaner body.

The Barre workout is one of the latest trends in fitness and an ideal compliment to your Pilates, Yoga or Body Pump exercise program.

What sets the Balanced Body Barre workout aside from other barre programs is the emphasis on safety and body awareness while keeping the intensity and high energy of more traditional barre workouts at the forefront. The Balanced Body Barre workout is based on the Pilates principles and the result has created fresh new choreography and a hybrid exercise program that produces results without injury.

In addition, SDTRC will also serve as a host site for the Balanced Body Barre Education Programs. We will be hosting and training instructors so that they may become certified Balanced Body Barre instructors. If you or someone you know may be interested in this, please feel free to contact me at the address below for more information.

Look for Balanced Body Barre classes to be added to our SDTRC Group Fitness schedule beginning April 2013.

MASSAGE EXTRAORDINAIRE MASSAGE EXTRAORDINAIRE had a 3 hour-couples’ massage workshop on February 17, 2013. We had 8 couples and it was a smash hit. Four massage therapists, Tammara, Barbara, Sherry and I taught our specialty techniques. Then, each couple went to their individual massage table and practiced. We also videoed the techniques and it will be on utube very soon. Susie, also a MT, was our photographer. In addition to the massages, the group enjoyed the mimosas, sangria and various appetizers.Plus, every couple received a complimentary bottle of massage oil or cream and an ‘I LOVE MASSAGE’ t-shirt.Thanks much too all the participants and of course, the amazing massage staff/We’ve been asked to have additional classes. We’ll keep you informed. -Marsha

*April 1, is our 4 year anniversary at the SDTRC. We love being here. We have amazing clients and an awesome SDTRC staff.

Activities

Hello, spring time is here and we can all get excited that our beautiful warm San Diego weather is just around the corner. I have some great activities lined up for you. April 13th is a 4.5 Mixed Doubles Round Robin. This will be more competitive than the social mixers that we have where trophies will be awarded to the winners. April 20th is the Women’s 3.5 Singles Tournament. April 27th is the Juniors 8 & 10 and Under Tournament. 8 & Under will be playing on our Quickstart courts with Red Balls and the 10 & Under will be playing with the Green Dot Balls.

As always, you can sign up for our club email blast for all SDTRC events and activities by emailing me at [email protected] or you can simply Like our club Facebook page.

Tournament Result

We had a great Men’s 5.0/Open Singles Club Championship this year. Zach Wolfe defeated last years champion Keegan Smith in 3 sets 4-6, 6-1, 6-3. Congrats Zach.
