With BREEAM-assessed Global Warming Potential of –1.9 (better than zero carbon, based on installation in walls), using WARMCEL 500 actively reduces a building’s carbon footprint, sequestering carbon from newspapers which would otherwise be released at landfill.

WARMCEL 500 is installed by our BBA-inspected network of trusted installers in such a way as to achieve complete void fill, improving airtightness in line with environmental targets without relying

on non-standard wall thicknesses or an excess of offsetting technology, thus minimising heat energy loss from the building in the most cost-effective manner. In this way, stringent Part L targets can be met with less reliance on green technology offsetting or non-standard wall thicknesses.

Carbon is sequestered when it is locked inside the fabric of a material rather than being emitted into the atmosphere as a greenhouse gas (such as when newspapers release methane at landfill). Closed LoopRecycling

The principle of closed loop recycling is to keep carbon within a given system, preventing it from escaping and creating an environmental burden. For example, Excel often works with schools, encouraging their staff, pupils and communities to recycle newspaper for use in WARMCEL 500 insulation, which may then be used within new school buildings. Excel aspires to reproduce this closed loop recycling methodology worldwide.

Minimising construction costs

For open panel walls, WARMCEL 500 may be applied via damp spraying and levelling off to the depth of the studs, with no voids even around pipework.

Closed panel structures may also be filled with a lance/hose system inserted into a suitable hole, directly filling the cavity.

In loft applications, this method ensures total loft coverage, making it easy to achieve complete fill between and over joists.

The system uses air to directly pump WARMCEL 500 into void between the inner and outer sheathing boards of a closed panel wall unit.
