From the Principal

Welcome to Week 4, some chilly evenings and mornings and this “new normal” where we are all adjusting to and modifying our daily lives as we live with Covid-19. Our staff are all well and so eager to resume normal school operation as soon as our Premier announces the date.

Thank youWe cannot thank our parents enough for their wonderful support of our school in supervising learning from home, sending your child to school and assisting us to keep everyone as safe as possible by waiting outside our school grounds at drop-off and pick-up times. We were overjoyed to see so many students return to school last week to see their friends and teachers and learn in a classroom once again. We are also enjoying supporting more and more students at school on a daily basis. It’s comforting to know some parents can return to work with a few restrictions being lifted and we also acknowledge that some parents have just had too much learning from home and need their child to come to school. There were so many proud moments last week for both parents and teachers as students walked confidently into school in the mornings to meet up with friends. Many parents also articulated that they found school drop-off so much easier and definitely faster by “kissing and dropping” at the gate.

CanteenOur school canteen remains closed and plans to reopen once normal school routines resume. As soon as we know the date our canteen will open, we will let you know.

OOSHOur Before and After School Care provided by Bright Sparks will return to our school hall on Monday, 1st June 2020. Until then, it will continue to be provided at their child care centre.

Semester 1 reportsDue to Covid-19, changes to normal school operations and learning from home, we will adopt a revised approach to student assessment and reporting for Semester 1 2020, reflecting the current teaching and learning environment. A briefer version of our usual Semester 1 report will be made available to parents early next term. More information will be provided as it becomes available.

Safe classroomsThere is lots of hand washing and sanitising taking place in classrooms. Our additional cleaner is wiping down tables, flat surfaces and high use areas during lunch and recess breaks. Our School Learning Support Officers (SLSOs) are doing an amazing job ensuring devices are wiped down regularly and that all classrooms have furniture arranged to maximise the distance between students as they work at their desks. On the day that their stage is rostered, students will work in their own classroom with their teacher. There will be no online learning that day and teachers will be unable to provide any online feedback that day.
