Eric Dregni, author of “In Cod We Trust: Living the Nor- wegian Dream,” will be speak- ing about his book and his time living in Norway at 1 p.m. Satur- day, April 18, at the Chanhassen Library. Dregni is also the author of “Scooter’s” and “Minnesota Marvels: Roadside Attractions in the Land of Lakes,” and he teaches at Concordia College. “In Cod We Trust: Living the Norwegian Dream” manages to be both witty and philosophical, as Dregni describes learning about the country that his great grandfather left more than 100 years ago. He describes Jante’s Law, the self effacing unwritten social code that most Norwegians fol- low, and how he learned to t into it. He also has some hair- raising adventures, like trying to control a baby sled (actually a “spark” with his baby in it) on a steep icy sidewalk. Shuster has created a very readable book about alternative sources of energy, covering rst the problems with fossil fuels, then the possible solutions: solar, wind, biofuels, hydroelec- tric, geothermal, nuclear, water and hydrogen. I especially liked the chapter on wind energy with Chaska talking about erecting a windmill. Carver County has orga- nized a special Earth Day event at the Minnesota Land- scape Arboretum at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, featur- ing Shuster presenting “From Energy Foolishness to Energy Independence.” Shuster will tell us his ideas on how to steer the United States and the world away from fossil fuels such as oil, natural gas and coal by the year 2040. Shuster is a chemi- cal engineer with more than 50 years of experience, and a business man who has founded or co-founded eight companies. He has testified before Congress and the Argonne National Labo- ratory. He recently spoke to a standing-room-only crowd of more than 500 people at the Uni- versity of Minnesota Institute of Technology. Shuster has created a very readable book about alternative sources of energy, covering fi rst the problems with fossil fuels, then the possible solutions: solar, wind, biofuels, hydroelec-tric, geothermal, nuclear, water and hydrogen. I especially liked the chapter on wind energy with Chaska talking about erecting a windmill.

Carver County has orga-nized a special Earth Day event at the Minnesota Land-scape Arboretum at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, featur-ing Shuster presenting “From Energy Foolishness to Energy Independence.” Shuster will tell us his ideas on how to steer the United States and the world away from fossil fuels such as oil, natural gas and coal by the year 2040. Shuster is a chemi-cal engineer with more than 50 years of experience, and a business man who has founded or co-founded eight companies. He has testifi ed before Congress and the Argonne National Labo-ratory. He recently spoke to a standing-room-only crowd of more than 500 people at the Uni-versity of Minnesota Institute of Technology.

“Shanghai Moon: A Lydia Chin/ Bill Smith Novel,” by S.J. Rozan. P.I. Lydia Chin is working with her old mentor Joel helping to recover a cache of jewelry stolen during the Holocaust, when Joel turns up dead and her old partner Bill Smith reappears.
