Behind every company there’s a story of peopleThe FuturaSun story speaks of friendship, a desire to discover the world and to undertake an entrepreneurial path. It involves the meeting of the Western and Eastern Worlds, family trust and of course, the passion for solar energy.

FuturaSun was founded in 2008, but its story takes us much further back in time. It all began in Italy, in Cittadella, Veneto, a city renowned for its beautiful Medieval walls which now houses the FuturaSun European headquarters.

The Barin Progetti architecture firm was first opened on this site 40 years ago, led by the father of one of FuturaSun’s founding partners. His son, Alessandro Barin, was supposed to follow in his father’s footsteps, however he soon noticed he had a flair for learning languages. He decided to learn Chinese, an exotic language spoken by a nation just brimming with potential. He first travelled to China in 2000. After a year, he went back and decided to stay. Alessandro’s university friends include Nicola Baggio, an ‘emerging brain’ whose aerospace engineering studies led him to work on the development of photovoltaic cells for a mission to Mars. Since then he has remained in the solar sector and has been involved in research and development for important companies in the sector. During a holiday trip in 2008 was born the idea to create an own company, given the sector’s potential for growth and a common passion for solar energy. However, FuturaSun is not one of those many solar companies which enjoyed extremely rapid growth during the years of photovoltaic boom. We actually started our company just at the time when the first signs of the sector’s decline began to show in Italy, only to plummet in the subsequent years. Despite the difficult market conditions over the last few years, which have resulted in the disappearance of several big players from the photovoltaic scene, FuturaSun has continued along its journey of growth, initially taking small steps and gaining momentum later.

We are a company which bucks the trend. Why is this? Perhaps because we really like challenges! Undoubtedly because extensive experience ranging from production to certifications, logistics and distribution and this allows us to guarantee a flexible response to customers all over the world. Unlike other Italian solar companies,we immediately oriented ourselves towards foreign markets. Today we sell in over 40 countries, and have achieved double-digit sales growth year on year.

Anticipate TomorrowAnticipate tomorrow is the slogan we have selected to describe FuturaSun: a company which strongly believes in a sustainable future, without the use of fossil fuels. Tomorrow is already here. Thanks to the falling cost of photovoltaic energy, it is absolutely the lowest compared to all other sources.

Fossil fuels are to blame for the catastrophic climate changes we are currently experiencing, and now actually cost more than solar energy per kWh.

Anyone can understand, utility bills in hand, that a photovoltaic installation is the best solution for the production of electrical energy at home and at work.

Our main production plant in Asia, directed by Alessandro Barin, is located in Maanshan and has an annual production capacity of 300 MW. Futura-Sun has invested in a production line for its new high-efficiency modules. The final result is a state-of-the-art module, with an efficiency beyond 18%. Our high efficiency FU300M modules are produced on a 15,000 m2 site, together with our standard mono and polycrystalline modules. FuturaSun’s modules are produced with a highly automated line, with rigid quality controls implemented throughout the entire process, to gua-rantee maximum quality and traceability for every single item.

FuturaSun uses only raw materials of finest quality from renowned sup-pliers, stored in compliance with stringent criteria for temperature and humidity control.

Confidence for 25 years of warranty Numerous quality controls are carried out during the entire production process, starting from an incoming inspection of the raw material to ve-rify that the quality is conforming to FuturaSun’s high quality standards, followed by an array of in-line tests to confirm the maintenance of the certified production process. For example: electroluminescence, IV and hipot testing are performed on every single module, guaranteeing our cu-stomers a top quality module, in line with the concept of excellence that is the cornerstone of the FuturaSun brand.

All production sites are periodically inspected by international accredita-tion bodies, as further confirmation of the high quality of the FuturaSun production process.

We voluntarily test our products in compliance with the most rigorous international standards and way beyond.

We have tested our products in so many laboratories that we’ve lost count. Kiwa, Eurotest, Albarubens, Istituto Giordano, Laboratory LA.P.I. in Italy, Fraunhofer ISE, TÜV Rheinland and the Photovoltaik Institut Berlin in Germany, Kacst in Saudi Arabia, the University of San Paolo/Inmetro in Brazil, TÜV Rheinland, Schatz Energy Research Center, Humboldt State University in California, etc…

But all this would amount to little more than useless pieces of paper, were it not for the fact that we check our product quality module by module, cell by cell, glass by glass.Galileo’s pupils taught us this, with their motto “Try and try again”. To test something once is not enough. Statements about how we have 20 different certifications, tested our modules in dozens of laboratories, installed several MW in the whole world, would be meagre consolation if we ourselves were absent from the picture. If you have any questions, doubts, require clarification or some advice, if there’s a problem to be solved, we’ll be there for you.Whatever your question is, we’ll answer it with competence, clarity and transparency.

HigH STABiliTY AgAiNSTSNOw – 5400 PA

The modules can withstand a snow load of 5400 Pa which corresponds to a weight of 550 kg/m2 or 112,7 lbs/sq ft. This stability makes the modules suitable for installations in alpine areas.

El TEST

The electroluminescence (EL) Test is like an “X-ray” of a PV module. FuturaSun tests all its modules to confirm the-mechanic integrity and the quality of the cells: impossi-ble to verify with the naked eye.

FuturaSun makes EL Tests before and after the lamina-tion process, to confirm both the production process as well as the quality of the solar cell.

POSiTivE POwERTOlERANcE 0 → +5 wP

FuturaSun’s policy is to ensure that the customer gets a better performance than expected.

For this reason, we offer only modules that reach a higher power than what is declared.

4 BUSBAR HigH EFFiciENcY cEllS

The new high efficiency 4 busbar cells allow the inver-ter to reach the maximum peak output in an easier way, increasing the amount of energy produced by the PV system. FuturaSun’s 4 busbar cells decrease the ohmic losses and reduce the percentage of surface stressed by micro-cracks.

AMMONiA RESiSTANT(iEc 62716)

FuturaSun’s PV modules are able to withstand an am-monia atmosphere and are therefore suitable for PV in-stallations on farms, cowsheds and greenhouses. The junction box and the back sheet used by FuturaSun are particularly resistant to this specific gas; that in the worst cases can cause a module breakage.

PiD FREE

FuturaSun’s polycrystalline modules are PID resistant (Potential Induced Degradation). They are made from “PID-free” cells, in combination with high-insulation en-capsulants, and use special glass with treatment to pre-vent electron accumulation. The combined effect creates an effective barrier against the effect of PID.

NEw 35 MM FRAME

FuturaSun’s new frame design of 35 mm is thinner and lighter than traditional modules, but guarantees the same mechanical performance as modules with a 40 mm fra-me. Thinner modules allow FuturaSun to deliver more products in a pallet, reducing the transport costs and it means also less weight for the installers.

TEMPERATURE cOEFFiciENTOF -0.36% / c°

The test reports issued by the KACST laboratory in Saudi Arabia demonstrates the perfect operation of Fu-turaSun’s polycrystalline modules at high temperatures. This means that FuturaSun modules generate a higher yield at high temperatures compared to modules from other PV manufacturers.

SAND STORM RESiSTANT (DUST AND SAND TEST 60068-2-68)

Futurasun confirms the versatility of their PV modules by also demonstrating their strong durability in simulated sand storm conditions, after which no glass abrasion was shown. Withstanding this extremely stressful condi-tion of high velocity sand make the module suitable for PV plants in desert areas.

SAlT MiST cORROSiON RESiSTANT(iEc 61701)

FuturaSun modules can be installed in any coastal are-as thanks to a design able to withstand a salt-laden at-mosphere. Both the metallic and non-metallic modules components are resistant to high saline concentrations.

FiRE RESiSTANcE

FuturaSun’s photovoltaic modules are certified CLASS 1 for fire reaction pursuant to the UNI 9177 standard, af-ter completion and passing tests foreseen by the Italian legislation. This means that FuturaSun’s modules can be used on a vast range of covering types, even those with special safety requirements.

Education is essential for us. Courses are held in compliance with different regional legislation and serve the primary purpose of informing installers of all technical and legislative aspects. There is so much news and so many updates that usually there is not enough time to cover it all during our sales appointments. Our courses enable us to set aside several hours so that we can talk things over with you, answer your questions and develop future strategies together.

We try to give as much useful information as possible on how to recognise problems like: PID, LID, delamination, hot spots, yellowing, burnt diodes... all concepts which need to be tackled with real on-site examples.

In addition to training events, we also publish technical updates in our online blog “Technical Briefings”, on our website, as well as in periodic newsletters.

Photovoltaic modules are composed by silicon, glass, copper and alumi-nium. Once separated, they are recyclable and usable for the creation of new modules or other products.FuturaSun is a member of numerous recycling consortiums in Europe. We have also obtained the “Carbon Balanced” certification for tenders in France.

We are proud to inform you that not a single Euro of funds from these consortiums was allocated for the recycling of FuturaSun’s modules.

The overall photovoltaic plant Life-cycle assessment (LCA) is now under two years almost everywhere in Europe, and even less in sunnier areas in Africa. This indicates that the overall environmental impact, over the expected plant life expectancy of 25 years, is extremely positive.
