Anthology of Maps of the Exploration and Discovery in the Heartland of America, 1650-1700 A Journey through the Great Lakes. It was begun in the mid-1500 with Jacques Cartier, navigating 1000 miles up the St. Laurence. It continued again in the early sixteen hundreds, with the opening up of the St. Laurence to exploration, trade and settlement. By the early 1670s, Lake Superior had been mapped. The Dollier-Galinee draft of the Great Lakes, done at about the same time, was a first-step workable solution for the great Lakes geography.
