FINANCIALS Dear Friends,

Thank you for enlivening and supporting the Colonial throughout my first year in service to you and thecommunity as Executive Director. Throughout the year, the board, staff, and I have been keenly focused on how to ensure that the Colonial remains engaging, accessible, fun and relevant to your lives. We have been listening and observing -- inviting feedback, surveying audiences, meeting with community partners, volunteers, funders and members, questioning our assump-tions and broadening our horizons. Thank you for your generous input! You are enabling us to refine our thinking about how and what to bring to our screens and stages. In a time of sweeping changes to the film industry and personal habits in media consumption that challenge independent and theatre chains alike, we welcome the opportunity to learn and evolve with you. From your first moment at the box office to your choices at concessions, to pop-up performances, stimulating com-munity conversations and movies paired with interesting speakers and foods, we’ll continue to test new concepts at the Colonial that surprise and delight you. Stay tuned for a brand new website and programs in 2020 and the return of our new Blobfest app. We look forward to seeing you here!

With gratitude,

Ken Metzner

Three new series provided fresh encounters with familiar films. Multi-sensory food and movie pairings; visits from visionary filmmakers; and a rainbow of representative stories enlivened our community. These new programs launched this year:

Illuminating Cinema Experts unpack film content. Edible Cinema Flavors of film brought from screen to plate. Pride Month Film Series LGBTQIA+ experiences through the lens.

The Colonial Theatre hosted three film premieres with guest appearances by two filmmakers:

Award-winning People’s Republic of Desire with appearance by the documentary filmmaker, Hao Wu.

The Pennsylvania state premiere of acclaimed documentary Gay Chorus Deep South - part of the first annual Pride Month program series.

Beloved musicians like Los Lobos, Aimee Mann, and Blue Öyster Cult returned to fill the Colonial with music. Toad the Wet Sprocket, 10,000 Maniacs, and other celebrated artists visited for the very first time.

In the first of many classical and world music performances to come, members of the Philadelphia Orchestra performed with visiting artists from Israel and ARTolerance Artistic Director Udi Bar-David.
