University Grants Commission for two years started from 1.1.2006. Rs.10.00 lakhs. Dr. Ajay Darshan Behera is the Coordinator. The project is still in progress.

2. Centre for Central Asian Studies under Area Studies Programme of UGC for

five years started w.e.f. 1.4.2007. Total amount Rs.9.50 lakhs. Prof Rashmi Doraiswamy is the Coordinator and Dr. G.M. Shah, Reader is Co-Coordinator.

3. Political Economy of India’s Regional Trade Arrangement in East Asia and the

Prospects of its integration with the East Asian Community funded by Univesity Grants Commission for a period of 3 years w.e.f. 1.4.2007 for Rs.7,57,500/-. The name of Project Investigator is Prof. K.D. Kapur and Prof. Shri Prakash as Co-investigator.

Administrative: Hony. Dy. Director, Academy of Third World Studies 1. Looked after all Administrative Work, writing letters, , Reports and Minutes of

various meetings for the information and approval of the Hony. Director, Professor Mushirul Hasan. This included reports for the UGC, Ministry of External Affairs and the offices of the Jamia Millia Islamia as required by the Registrar.

2. Supervised the M.Phil/Ph.D. Programme making sure that classes were held on time,

Term papers were presented and Semester Exams held as per schedule, Exam results communicated and Admissions Entrance Exams plus interviews conducted on time after due procedures were completed. Was Superintendent of Exams.

3. Represented ATWS as Special Invitee at the Academic Council Meetings of the

University. 4. Supervised Organization of all Seminars, Symposiums, Lectures and Talks during the

year. 5. Constituted a Library Committee which selected 5000 Books for the ATWS Library

during 2007-08 6. Supervised the maintenance of the ATWS building. 7. Organized the meeting of the Board of Management which approved activities of the

ATWS for 2007-08. 8. Started reviving the Activities of the Centre for Gandhian Studies as Coordinator

recently merged into ATWS. 9. Organized mnay ATW “ Faculty meetings to finalise a new Syllabus, approve

M.Phil/Ph.D. Synopsis etc. Academic as Professor: A. Taught two courses one in each semester:

Position Holding

Joint Secretary, Indian Association of Central and West Asian Studies, JMI. Nasir Raza Khan holds doctoral degree in Architectural History of India. His specialization is on the history of Architecture and culture of India and its Central Asian Antecedents. His research concerns cultural heritage of India, he looks at the subject which provides a bird’s view of on the assimilation of distinct cultural elements and the process of synthesisation were probed by him in particular. Have published papers on cultural history and architectural conservation in newspapers and travel Journals. He is a regular contributor to India Perspectives a magazine published from Ministry of External Affairs. He is widely travelled in Central Asian countries like Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan to participate in conferences and seminars. Presently he is also working with a major project on Silk Route, sponsored by Ministry of External Affairs Govt. of India. It deals with the importance of the Silk Route from India’s point of view. His first book is under publication with Manohar Publisher, Delhi. Dr. Khan’s project Revival of the Silk Route: Problems and Prospects for Indian’s Trade with Central Asia deals with historical aspects of the Silk Route and provides a perspective on how and why it has come to attract attention in the recent past. It also deals with the importance of the Silk Route for India and the reason the connections between the Silk Route and India may be important today and in the future. The project contemplates with India’s connections with the Silk Route – both in history and in the future. It also deals with India’s relations with the Central Asian states and the prospect for cooperation through energy politics and through trade interaction. The central theme of the project is that the Silk Route should not merely be treated geographically. It offers opportunities for cultural and commercial interaction within a broad neighbourhood. i. Revival of the Silk Route: Problems and Prospects for India’s Trade with Central Asia, sponsored by the Ministry of External Affairs, Initially it was awarded for two year later extended by one year, ending in the year 2008. My project deals with historical aspects of the Silk Route and provides a perspective on how and why it has come to attract attention in recent years. It also deals with the importance of the Silk Route for India. It also deals with India’s relations with the Central Asian states and the prospect for cooperation for energy security and trade interaction.

ii. Grand Trunk Road: Continuity and Changes, the aim of my work is to relive the experiences of the old trade route. What benefits ‘India and Pakistan can get from a better understanding of this trade route. A partial grant, FTG (Foreign Travel Grant) given by ICHR (Indian Council of Historical Research), an autonomous body of Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India which enabled me to traveled along the G.T. Road in Pakistan in 2007.. I don’t have a deadline for this project but I am planning to bring my findings as a book in 2008.
