VisionA Singapore that is children-plenty and children-friendly.

MissionI Love Children is a voluntary welfare organization set up in September 2005 with a purpose of keeping Singapore young – by advocating a higher priority to having children, and promoting a society where children are loved and mainstreamed.

In short, we celebrate children and the joy they bring. We hope to inculcate the value and importance of parenthood and family among Singaporeans, as well as encourage a children-friendly environment in Singapore.

People with children often say “there’s nothing like this ‘feeling’ when you arrive home from work and your child runs to you in a mad dash just to call out a joyful ‘Mummy’ or ‘Daddy’”. This

soothing ‘feeling’ is an emotion that heals one’s soul; children regenerate the positive emotions in us and seeing the world through their eyes makes us young again. We want couples to know that parenthood comes with its own set of challenges but they are not insurmountable. Children are definitely worth the while.

In 2011, ILC celebrated the joy of parenthood with over 50,000 couples with three new initiatives: roving street theatre performances to promote parenthood; a light-hearted comic strip featuring young couples and their lifestyle choices and a 5-minute video about fertility challenges when having baby later in life. It was further edited into a TVC which attracted thousands of hits on YouTube. Other on-going programs and activities included the Parenthood Pledge, ILC Bus visits, www.maybebaby.sg web portal, Maybe Baby On The Road road-shows, Maybe Baby At The Movie: 2011 annual campaign, public discussions and a movie date-cum-talk event. A new tagline – “Little Ones . Great Joy” was used throughout to celebrate the joy of parenthood.

The second Parenthood Survey in 2011 showed improvement in our efforts in reaching out to young couples and newly-weds. In particular, 86% were aware of ILC’s campaign message “It is a joy to have children”, up from 80% in 2010. Of those who were aware or had participated in ILC’s initiatives, one in two newly-weds and those with one child agreed that they had gained practical skills to manage life with a baby.

Guided by these findings, we will proactively create exciting initiatives and events to reach out to dating or married young couples to give them the resources and confidence to embark on the next phase in their life journey. We hope to help couples make mental and physical preparation for parenthood while emphasizing the need for strong spousal support.

Nurturing these initiatives and programs could only be made possible by supportive partners and sponsors. On behalf of our ILC Board, a big ‘Thank You’ to Ikano Pte Ltd (IKEA) and Abbott Laboratories (S) Pte Ltd who sponsored our Parenthood Pledge, the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports, volunteers and friends for making each program so successful!

The Parenthood Plunge...Taken!About 800 couples pledged to conceive before 30 June 2011 and the first 100 were rewarded with S$300 worth of IKEA vouchers.

From 1 September 2011, couples who signed the Parenthood Pledge and successfully conceived were rewarded with S$300 worth of Similac Mum or Similac Follow-On milk powder from Abbott Nutrition.

Couples can make the pledge at ILC Bus location visits, ilovechildren.org.sg or maybebaby.sg and ILC organized events. (Terms and conditions apply.)

VideoThe latest video by ILC was a story of contrast. Titled “I Thought My Life Was Complete”, it portrayed the lives of two women – one who had children earlier in life and enjoying every moment of motherhood and the other delaying parenthood until it was too late.

All Aboard! The ILC Bus is a mobile resource center on wheels. Information on finances, fertility, pregnancy, parenthood is readily available inside the bus. It made nine visits to various locations in Singapore and welcomed over 35,000 visitors.

SkitILC together with Act 3 Theatrics brought the first ever street skit theatre to the public. Three unique skits were performed to entertain lunchtime crowds in October and November 2011. The messages carried forth the little joys, warmth, laughter and surprises children bring.
