Temple Athletics thanks all of our stakeholders for your valuable contributions to our suc-cess in 2008-09.

On behalf of our more than 550 student-athletes, coaches and staff, I am proud to reportthat we maintain great focus on, and pride in, our vision for Comprehensive Excellence –academically, athletically and socially. In 2008-09, we witnessed great progress toward thisvision on all fronts.

Academically, eleven of our intercollegiate teams recorded a perfect 1000 score on theNCAA Academic Performance Rate (APR) scale, while football’s 960 score represented one

of the most dramatic turnarounds in all of the NCAA’s Football Bowl Subdivision.

Athletically, women’s fencing represented us in the NCAA Championships, while men’s and women’s basket-ball both advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive year – the only non-BCS institution(of only 12 FBS schools) to do so. Several other Owls programs demonstrated clear progress toward our goal ofcapturing conference championships, including football, which won its most games since 1990.

Our impact in the community is both important and wide-reaching and this year, was highlighted by footballearning the highly prestigious Community Service Award from the Philadelphia Sports Congress during cere-monies that also honored the 2008 World Series Champion Phillies as its Team of the Year.

And, despite a significant downturn in our nation’s economy, Athletics exceeded our budgeted revenue for thesixth consecutive fiscal year, led by record revenue for corporate partnerships.

Clearly, the backbone of our success is the Temple Student-Athletes, coaches and staff that represent our greatUniversity with pride and class.

Yet the heart and soul of our success is, and will continue to be, the many of you who support our student-athletes so generously by attending events, making gifts and providing your time and talent. It is only throughyour support, however, that we may continue to guide and encourage our Owls as they prepare for produc-tive, meaningful lives after graduation.

Our student-athletes strive each day to both earn and honor your commitment to our program. To ensure theopportunity to pursue our vision, we ask for and need, more than ever, your continued loyalty – for which weare so grateful.

Onward and upward.

Go Owls!

From the Desk of Director of Athletics, Bill Bradshaw

Dear Fellow Owls:

Two of the most proper and appreciated, yet overlooked and under-used, words in the English dictionary are “please” and “thanks.” As you reviewthis report and reflect with pride on all that Temple Athletics accomplished in 2008-09, please know of our sincere appreciation for your continuedfinancial support. As I am sure you will agree, private support must grow if we are going to achieve our vision of Comprehensive Excellence.

With that in mind…

THANKS to the 1,962 Owl Club donors that made supporting Temple Athletics in 2008-09 a priority. Your gift inspires over 550 student-athletesacross 24 sport programs to pursue comprehensive excellence in the classroom, on the playing surfaces and in life!

PLEASE continue to maintain your membership in the Owl Club. Our goal is to double the Owl Club annual donor base by June 30, 2013. How canyou help? Refer us to those you know (classmates, teammates, associates, etc.) that need to be involved with Temple Athletics!

THANKS for helping Temple Athletics realize over $1.4 million in new pledges and gifts during 2008-09, exceeding our goal by over $100,000! Weare particularly grateful for 569 first-time donors that joined us. Welcome to the Owl Club, and thanks again!

PLEASE be mindful of the many different ways to play a positive impact with our program. “Broad Participation” is a key goal for the Owl Club mov-ing forward, and this participation can take many different forms: making a gift, buying tickets, volunteering, or attending events.

THANKS to the literal army of volunteers that make our athletics program special by sharing their time and talents with us. From banquets to auc-tions to golf outings to meetings, it truly takes a unified, shared-vision approach to organize and sustain a championship caliber, broad-based ath-letics program.

PLEASE continue to make Temple Athletics a priority. Your Owl Club gift during 2008-09, regardless of its amount or designation, is sincerely val-ued. Your continued loyalty to Temple Athletics – especially during this economic time – means more than you will ever know. Most importantly, your financial support helps prepare our student-athletes for productive and meaningful lives.

Go Owls!
