2012 Temple Field Hockey Media Guide

2012 OUTLOOKEighth-year head coach Amanda Janney

is set to lead Temple field hockey into its final

season of play in the Atlantic 10, and the

Owls have their work cut out for them. Five

senior leaders from the 2011 squad were lost

to graduation, leaving Temple with a young

team that boasts just one senior in veteran

Katie Briglia.

Junior Molly Doyle will serve as a co-

captain along with Briglia, and together the

two will look to help bring eight freshmen

into the fold. Also expected to take a leader-

ship role is redshirt sophomore goalkeeper

Lizzy Millen, the 2011 Atlantic 10 Tourna-

ment Most Outstanding Player.

“Both Katie and Molly will be strong

leaders for us,” said Janney. “Katie is an

amazing player who can play any position

but most likely will be a midfielder for us. She

will have a breakout year along with Lizzy.

Seven of our players, including our team cap-

tains and Lizzy, played for U.S. Field Hockey

Association (USFHA) High Performance

Teams over the summer which gave them a

lot of confidence and playing experience.”

With all field positions losing key sen-

iors, the team will have some rebuilding to

do in 2012. The most notable loss for the

Owls is 2011 Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of

the Year and third team All-America selection

Bridget Settles, who led the team with 20

goals and 44 total points last year. Second-

leading scorer Caryn Lambright (five goals)

was also lost to graduation.

Briglia will have sophomore returner and

fellow forward Amber Youtz by her side this

season. Youtz, an A-10 All-Rookie Team pick

in 2011, scored four goals along with two as-

sists in her debut campaign a year ago.

Briglia, an A-10 First Team selection, scored

twice and led the Owls with five assists.

Janney expects additional scoring

power to come from junior Lauren Hunt, who

played in 21 games last year. “Amber and

Lauren had a strong spring season, and we

expect them to create a lot of shooting op-

portunities for our attack,” said Janney.

“Alyssa Delp and Tricia Light are two fresh-

men who will provide some depth on the

front line. They are both fast and fit athletes

and they have been impressive in preseason

so far.”

Another area that will need younger

players to step up is defense, with the Owls

losing two starting backs in graduated sen-

iors Becca Keener and Carissa Young.

“Molly stepped up this past spring and

took over as center back,” said Janney, “and

junior Mandi Shearer brings us experience as

the other starting defender from last year.

Our team defense should develop into a con-

sistent force for us.”

One returner who can help the Owls at

both forward and midfield is sophomore

Nicole Kroener, who was named to the A-10

All-Rookie Team last season and played for

USFHA High Performance Team New Jersey

over the summer. Kroener did not put up

numbers statistically as a freshman, but was

one of two freshmen to start in all 22 games

a year ago along with Youtz.

On a roster of 20, almost half of those

are freshmen this season. “I was so pleased

that our recruiting class was so strong,” said

Janney. “These eight players are from some

of the best high schools and club teams in

Senior Katie Briglia

Redshirt sophomore Lizzy Millen

the nation, and their playing experience from

national tournaments will really help our

team. I feel confident that this group will

make an immediate push for playing time.

Janney is joined on the sidelines by sec-

ond-year assistant coach Charise Young

along with second-year graduate assistant

coach Kelly Driscoll. “Charise and Kelly were

great additions to our coaching staff last year,

and they will continue to bring fresh ideas to

our program,” said Janney. “They work hard

on and off the field and I am confident that

our coaching staff will have our team pre-

pared for the challenges of this year.”

“We are looking to be the fittest and

fastest team in the A-10,” said Janney. “We

are excited for our last year in the A-10 and

for one last chance to get that elusive A-10

Championship after barely missing out last

year. We are recruiting better players to join

us in the BIG EAST Conference, and we are

excited about that change in 2013, but for

now we are focused on our team goals for

this year. “

The Owls open this season's slate at

home with Virginia and Duke in the Temple In-

vitational. The Owls will play seven games as

part of their final Atlantic 10 schedule before

starting BIG EAST play in 2013.

"With this season being our last in the A-

10, we really want it to be memorable," said

Janney. "We have scheduled really competi-

tive teams at the start of the season to en-

sure that we are prepared for our tough A-10

schedule. Scheduling these top 20 teams

gives us the experience and awareness that

has helped us in past seasons."

Temple's schedule features a five-game

homestand in September, including games

against Penn State, Lafayette, Delaware,

Drexel and Colgate.

For the second year in a row, the Owls

will play defending national champ Maryland,

this time on the road. That contest is set for

Sunday, Sept. 30. Temple returns home the

following weekend as its final A-10 season

begins with a game against new addition

VCU at home on Friday, Oct. 5. The Owls will

then face Radford at home the following day

in their Homecoming Game.

Maryland, Duke and Penn State were all

ranked in top 10 by the National Field Hockey

Coaches Association in the final poll of 2011.

Other A-10 home games will be played

against Lock Haven, Saint Louis and Saint

Joseph's. Sunday, Oct. 28 against Saint

Joseph's is the final regular season game and

will be Senior Day for Briglia, who will be

honored prior to the start of the contest.

"I believe that our team will be ready to

compete with the strong teams on our sched-

ule," said Janney. "We played a great game in

last year's A-10 Championship, but didn't

come out on top, and we remember that each

time we train. We hope that last year's expe-

riences combined with the new experiences

our players gained from our spring season

games and the USFHA HP games will help us

be ready for this year's A10 schedule." The

four-team A-10 Tournament will be hosted by

Massachusetts on Nov. 2-3.

After a 3-0win vs. Saint Joseph's, a team that had beaten theOwls in the regular season, Temple advanced to theA-10 Championship where the Cherry and Whitesuffered a loss to Richmond to end their season.Senior Charise Young earned numerous honors inher fourth season under Janney, including selec-tion to the A-10 First Team and All-Mid Atlantic

Second Team. She was also named the A-10 FieldHockey Student-Athlete of the Year for the secondtime.

In 2007, Janney guided the Owls to their firstregular season Atlantic 10 Championship in pro-gram history. Temple finished the season at 15-6overall and 6-1 in A-10 play, earning a berth in theconference tournament semifinals.

Dominating from start to finish during the reg-ular season, the 2007 campaign will be remem-bered as one of the most successful in schoolhistory, with victories over Lehigh, Lafayette, Rich-mond, UMass and nationally ranked Syracuse.Along with the team success, Alli Lokey and Ash-ley Bird were named the Atlantic 10's Offensive andDefensive Players of the Year respectively. Lokeywas also named second team All-American.

In 2006, Janney's second season on NorthBroad Street, the Owls finished 13-7 despite losingseven contributing seniors in 2005 to exhausted el-igibility. Featuring 11 freshmen and one senior, theteam collected the most wins in program historysince the 1991 season.

The Cherry and White took flight in 2006 with

a seven-game winning streak, the longest since thesame '91 campaign. Overtime wins over Lafayetteand Massachusetts, as well as three shutouts fromsophomore goalkeeper Erin Hanshue against Fair-field, Drexel and Longwood kept the run in tact.Temple finished the Atlantic 10 slate with a 4-3record and the conference's four-seed.

In 2005, her first season on North BroadStreet, the Owls posted their first winning season(11-10) since 1992 and their best Atlantic 10 Con-ference mark (6-1) since becoming an affiliate in1988.

Despite dropping sixof their first seven games, Janney's troops re-bounded to finish as the second seed in the con-ference tournament. A credit to her support, motivation, and teaching, six Temple players re-ceived all-conference honors en route to the pro-gram's third consecutive appearance in theconference tournament.

2011 YEAR IN REVIEWTEMPLE EARNS NINTH STRAIGHT ATLANTIC 10 TOURNAMENT BERTH; FALLS IN CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

The third-seeded Owlsfaced second-seeded Massachusetts in the semifinals, and dominated in a 4-0 win afterlosing 2-1 to UMass in overtime in the regular season meeting. Bridget Settles scored twoof those goals, while Caryn Lambright and Amber Youtz added one apiece. Lizzy Millenmade three saves in the shutout victory.

Temple advanced to face top-seeded Richmond in the championship game. Millenplayed the game of her life, making a career-high 11 saves and earning Most OutstandingPlayer honors in the tournament, but the Owls could not get their offense going as Rich-mond earned the title with a 1-0 victory. Also named to the All-Tournament Team wereSettles and Katie Briglia.

TEAM NEW JERSEY WINS HPC FIELD HOCKEY NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP WITH HELP FROM TEMPLEFour members of the Temple field hockey team, along with head coach Amanda

Janney, helped Team New Jersey take its fourth consecutive title at the Women's Na-tional Championship held at the University of Maryland in early June. Molly Doyle,Nicole Kroener, Lizzy Millen and Amber Youtz all had a part in the success of New Jer-sey, which went undefeated at 5-0 including a shutout, 4-0 win vs. Pennsylvania inthe title game.

Janney, who served as an assistant coach for the team, said all four players gotsignificant playing time over the course of the week. In particular, Janney was proudof Millen, who battled back from illness to play in the second half of the final threegames and made some big saves. "I was really proud of our defensive shutout in thechampionship," said Janney, "and Lizzy and Molly were a big part of that."

BRIDGET SETTLES EARNS ALL-AMERICA HONORSSenior Bridget Settles racked up the honors following an outstanding field hockey season, and the culmi-

nating honor came when she was named to the All-America Third Team by both Longstreth/NFHCA and SynapseSports (formerly WomensFieldHockey.com). The two organizations released separate All-America teams followingthe 2011 NCAA Field Hockey Championships.

Settles, the Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Year, was also named to the Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-Region First Team. She was the first Temple player to earn All-American honors since Alli Lokey in 2007. Just priorto receiving the All-America honor, Settles represented Temple in the NFHCA Division I Senior Game at the Universityof Louisville during the NCAA Field Hockey Championships, and scored a goal for her team.

She was responsible for over half the team's 37 goals for the season. Shefinished the season ranked in a tie for 15th in the nation in goals per game (0.91) and ranked 24th in points per game(2.0). Settles was named to the A-10 All-Tournament Team, to the 2011 A-10 First Team, the 2011 A-10 All-Aca-demic Team and to the 2010 A-10 First Team.

FIELD HOCKEY HONORED YET AGAIN IN NCAA ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE PROGRAM RECOGNITION Each year the NCAA honors selected Division I sports teams by publicly recognizing their latest multi-year academic performance rate (APR), and the Tem-

ple University field hockey team was one of those teams for a third straight year as announced by the NCAA on June 14.This announcement is part of the overall Division I academic reform effort and is intended to highlight teams who demonstrate a commitment to academic

progress and retention of student-athletes by achieving the top APR's within their respective sports. Specifically, these teams posted multi-year APR's in the top10 percent of all squads in each sport.

“Temple University Athletics strives to excel not only on the playing field, but more importantly in the classroom,” said Director of Athletics Bill Bradshaw.“To have three of our athletic programs cited for excellence by the NCAA is a tremendous accomplishment. I am very proud of not only our student-athletes,but also our academic support program and coaches for providing the infrastructure for success.”

The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.

“We are very grateful for this recognition of our team's academic success,” said head coach Amanda Janney. “This is a huge honor for our current players, our recent alumni, and also for our great academic advisors. Temple provides a tremendous amount of academic support for our student-athletes and we are thank-ful that each one of our players has graduated.”

On March 2, 1975, the idea of what is now theAtlantic 10 Conference was conceived. What startedas an eight-school, men’s basketball-only affiliationhas grown into a 16-university, 21-sport league thatis universally hailed as one of the best conferencesin the country.

That growth and prominence is a direct resultof the ideals and commitments of the member insti-tutions of the Atlantic 10 – Butler University, the Uni-versity of Dayton, Duquesne University, FordhamUniversity, The George Washington University, LaSalle University, University of Massachusetts, Uni-versity of North Carolina at Charlotte, University ofRhode Island, University of Richmond, St. Bonaven-ture University, Saint Joseph's University, Saint LouisUniversity, Temple University, Virginia Common-wealth University, and Xavier University.

In 2011-12, the Atlantic 10 was proactive innavigating the sweeping conference realignment is-sues, adding Butler Uni-versity and VirginiaCommonwealth Univer-sity, both of which beganfull membership on July1, 2012. The league wasdeclared the “winner” ofconference realignmentby several media outlets, arguably strengtheningthe league to its best-ever lineup with a record 16members institutions. The additions were part of afive-year Strategic Initiative Plan that was adoptedduring the 2010-11 academic year.

The 16 member institutions of the A-10 areunited and strengthened by their diversity. Each isextraordinary in its educational mission, whether ofa Catholic faith, a private university or a land grant in-stitution. The varied pursuits of each member provethat there are many threads that weave the fabric fora great conference.

The Atlantic 10 Conference, with a total popu-lation of over 82 million people within its geographicfootprint of nine states and the District of Columbia, will crown champions in 21 sports this year: base-ball, men's and women's basketball, men's andwomen's cross country, field hockey, men's golf, women’s lacrosse, men's and women's indoor andoutdoor track & field, women's rowing, men's andwomen's soccer, softball, men's and women's swim-ming & diving, men's and women's tennis, andwomen's volleyball.

The presidents and chancellors of Atlantic 10institutions, in conjunction with Atlantic 10 Com-missioner Bernadette V. McGlade, have made astrong commitment to making the academic and ath-letics equation a successful one. Over the years, theleague membership has strived to better recognizethe academic accomplishments of its student-ath-

letes. The Commissioner's Honor Roll, which citesevery Atlantic 10 student-athlete with a 3.5 gradepoint average or better, recognized a record 2,728student-athletes in 2011-12.

The league sponsors Academic All-Conferenceteams in each of its sports and honors two student-athletes as the A-10 Student-Athletes of the Year. Moreover, the Atlantic 10 provides four postgradu-ate scholarship grants to qualified student-athletes.In 2011-12, nearly 200 student-athletes earned Aca-demic All-Conference recognition, while Dayton’sYvonne Marten, Jennifer Nalepa from Saint Louis,Marissa Norman of Rhode Island and Charlotte’sMacey Ruble received postgraduate scholarshipgrants.

The Atlantic 10 has 56 of the more than 950Division I sports teams being honored with publicrecognition awards for their latest multi-year Aca-demic Progress Rate scores. The Atlantic 10 Confer-

ence ranks fourth in numberof teams publically recog-nized by the NCAA and fifth inoverall APR average amongall 32 Division I Conferenceswith a 981 average. Theleague boasted 40 squadswith perfect scores and 104teams with a score of 990 orbetter. In total, 188 A-10

teams were at or above the national average, repre-senting 70 percent of all A-10 teams. Of the 21 cham-pionship sponsored sports in the Atlantic 10, 19 hada sport average higher than the national average. There are six sports (field hockey, women's crosscountry, lacrosse, women's swimming & diving, women's indoor track & field and women's outdoortrack & field) in which every A-10 team in that sportis above the national average. The Atlantic 10 boasted a third-place ranking in thesingle-year Graduation Success Rate (GSR) amongall Division I leagues. Measured in a six-year window,89 percent of freshman enrolling in an A-10 institu-tion in 2004 graduated. Twelve of the league's insti-tutions were above the national four-year GSRaverage of 8o percent and five of those programs,Dayton, George Washington, Richmond, SaintJoseph's and Xavier are all over 90 percent. The At-lantic 10 also rates in the Top 10 in men's basketball, women's basketball and baseball in the single-yearGSR. The league is ninth nationally in men's basket-ball, graduating at a 74 percent rate, nearly sevenpercent above the national average. In women's bas-ketball the league ranks sixth with an incredible 96percent graduation rate for its 2004 freshman class,10 percent higher than the national average. In base-ball, the A-10 is tied for third nationally with an 87percent GSR, also 10 percent higher than the nationalaverage.

GIVING BACKTemple Field Hockey is extremely grateful to some very generous alumni of the program who have con-

tinued to stay involved with the Owls in a big way. Ann (McKernan) Robinson, pictured on the right, is a 1958alum who contributed the single largest gift to Temple Athletics in 2007. Robinson and her husband, ArmandI., pledged a total of $2 million to Temple including $1.1 million to the field hockey program.

In 2010, Cherifa (Nouri) Howarth (‘98) and her husband, Greg, donated a brand-new state-of-the-art wire-less scoreboard for Geasey Field, the site of Temple Field Hockey and Lacrosse. Howarth played field hockeyat Temple from 1993-97, and her 33 career goals rank ninth all-time in the history of the program.

ALUMNI MEMORIES"I loved playing for Temple. It was the best experience for me being part of a family and that's what our team was- "a

family." If one person was having a bad game, someone else stepped up. We had a lot of fun on our road trips and en-joyed spending time together on and off the field. The main reason we accomplished a lot was because we were not in-dividuals. We were a TEAM. What I loved most about Temple is that you could be yourself and you weren't being judged.GO OWLS. PLAY HARD EVERY GAME."-Jane Catanzaro-Delaney '90

What I loved most about Temple was the diversity of people and activities that only a large metropolitan campus can offer. This allowed me a world class qual-ity education at (the Tyler campus) coupled with the opportunity to be a part of an exceptional Division I field hockey program. It was the best of both worlds, bar none! GO OWLS! -Mary Anne Morgan, TYL '65

"On and off the field I had the support of the coaching staff and teammates; we were a family. Although time has passed and some relationships have changed,I am forever grateful that I experienced college with the people I did. TUFH was a consistent aspect of my life that continually made me happy, was a safe placeto express myself and pushed me to become a better person. My time at Temple and playing hockey, without a doubt, helped shape who I am today."-Haley Dervinis ‘04

“I experienced the best of everything at Temple. I received an excellent education that served me well for 37 years as a teacher and my field hockey years werevery rewarding. I played for a Hall of Fame coach, Eleanor Pepper, who I admired and emulated. My teammates were supportive and driven to succeed againstthe top field hockey programs in the country at the time. I thoroughly enjoyed my years at Temple and I am proud to be a Temple Owl.”-Elvetta Gemski ‘72 (2011 National Coaches Association Hall of Fame inductee)

“It’s hard to pick a favorite memory, because there are so many fun ones to choose from, but I would have to say that one of my favorite memories of TUFH wasstaying at the Conwell Inn during preseason. As a team we really bonded there and got to know the newcomers so well during our stay. It gave me a sense ofunity with the team knowing that we all went back to the hotel to crash and reboot only to get up and do it all over again a few hours later.”-Mandi Ruth ‘10

“We played well and we were friends. We enjoyed all aspects of university life and getting to know about the great city of Philadelphia. Temple was such a friendlyplace with great academics. I had a sense of loyalty and I’m so grateful for a wonderful all around education and have such a love of Philadelphia. Your greatestsuccess can come from your contributions in your own backyard.-Mary Ann Harris ‘61

“I can honestly say that I wish I knew then what I know now. As an alumni I understand what it means to be a Division I Field Hockey player. I understand nowthat it is not anyone that can be described as such. Temple University is my “house” and the TUFH team is my family. It just keeps growing every year!! I amvery blessed!”-Cherifa Howarth ‘98

GEASEY FIELDAfter a year-and-a-half project that was completed in Sep-

tember, 2009, Temple athletic teams have a brand new turf atGeasey Field.

Geasey Field is nowhome to one of thelargest permanent As-troturf surfaces in theworld, covering morethan 156,000 square-feet. The project, which cost over $1million, was unveiledwhen the Temple fieldhockey team playedhost to Albany on Sep-tember 20, 2009.

The turf on the newfield, Astroturf 12, ispopular among fieldhockey and lacrosseplayers for the smooth-ness of its surface andincreased speed of

players. Astroturf 12 is engineered with a premium knitted nylonsystem, designed to provide uniform traction and consistent foot-ing. It improves playability when wet and absorbs water to main-

tain wet conditions. The new surface is completely flat whichhelps maximize the game for both lacrosse and field hockey.

During the 2010 Temple lacrosse season, a brand-new state-of-the-art wireless scoreboard was unveiled, generously donatedby Greg and Cherifa Howarth (‘98). Cherifa Howarh (formerlyCherifa Nouri) played field hockey at Temple from 1993-97. Her33 career goals rank eighth all-time in the history of the program.

The 2012 season will mark Temple’s third full field hockeyseason on the new field, after the Owls played three home gamesat Drexel in 2009 while awaiting the completion of the renova-tions.

In an historic partnership, the Pennsylvaniastate legislature provided capital funds - $31.8 mil-lion - to build a new multi-use complex, providedthe University could raise $28.7 million from pri-vate sources. The total cost of the multi-buildingcomplex would be $107 million - an investment inTemple's future.

Originally christened The Forum at The Apolloof Temple, the Board of Trustees voted in 2000 tochange the building name to The Liacouras Centerin honor of President Liacouras' retirement after 18years as Temple's chief executive.

2012 Temple Field Hockey Media Guide

One of the most respected administratorsin college athletics, Bill Bradshaw completed hisfirst decade at Temple University with the con-clusion of the 2011-12 academic year. Andwhat a year it was!

Named one of five finalists for the SportsBusiness Journal’s coveted Athletic Director ofthe Year award in March, Bradshaw took theOwls to new heights in his tenth full-year at thehelm. In 2011-12, Temple Athletics set depart-ment records for academic success with 15teams earning above a 3.0 cumulative gradepoint average, and in revenues with 11.4 milliondollars generated through tickets sales, corpo-rate sponsorship and fund-raising.

Athletically, the year saw Temple’s firstBowl win in over 30 years, a 38-7 victory overWyoming in the Gildan New Mexico Bowl. Italso included the fifth straight NCAA appearanceby the men’s basketball team; Top 10 finishesand NCAA appearances by men’s gymnasticsand women’s fencing; an All-America men’strack performance by Travis Mahoney and awomen’s basketball WNIT berth.

Temple’s athletic success was not limited tothis one year. Under Bradshaw’s stewardshipthe Owls ranked 10th among all Football BowlSubdivision schools for combined wins in foot-ball, men’s and women’s basketball over the lastthree seasons.Temple also completed work on two capitalprojects over the 2011-12 academic year, a $10million state-of-the-art basketball practice facil-ity and an expansion of the existing footballcomplex.

Those achievements were all trumped, however, by the announcement on March 7 thatthe University would rejoin the BIG EAST Con-ference for football in 2012, and for all-sportsfor the 2013-14 season. It marks the first timethat Temple will have all of its sports housed inthe same conference, a goal of Bradshaw’s sincehis arrival on campus in 2002.What a year indeed for Temple Athletics, and itsleader. But we all know great things do not hap-pen overnight.

Appointed the University’s eighth Directorof Athletics on June 27, 2002, the NACDA Past

President is in his 36th year as a Division I ath-letics director. Prior to his arrival in Owl Countrythe 2011 UnderArmour FBS Division I Directorof Athletics of the Year spent 16 years as Direc-tor of Athletics at DePaul University in Chicagoand nine years in the same position at his almamater, La Salle University (‘69).

Bradshaw’s 10 years at Temple have pro-duced numerous highlights. The veteran ad-ministrator navigated the process of joining notone, but two FBS conferences. Prior to the BIGEAST announcement he found a home for Tem-ple Football in the Mid-American Conference(2005-11). An eye for talented coaches and ad-ministrators, he lured Al Golden, Fran Dunphy,Tonya Cardoza, and Steve Addazio, as well aseight senior staffers, among several prominenthires. The Black Coaches’ Association gave Tem-ple a grade of “A” for the search process of thefour coaching hires.

Thirty-eight Temple teams have advancedto NCAA Tournament play during his tenure.

In 2011, Temple became one of only sixNCAA Division I institutions to have its men'sand women's basketball teams compete in eachof the last four NCAA Championships. Templebecame the only Philadelphia school and Big 5

member to ever achieve this feat. Of those six,Temple was also one of only two schools (TexasA&M) to have its men's and women's basketballteams to accomplish that feat while also havingits football team be bowl-eligible each season.

The athletic department has enhanced ef-ficiency, productivity and strategic planningthrough organizational efforts under Bradshaw.A comprehensive operations and proceduresmanual has been developed, and athletics hasexceeded its revenue budget in each of the pastnine years.

During the 2010-11 academic year, TempleAthletics, under Bradshaw leadership, instituteda new ticket team ticket, partnering with IMG,and also began a five-year, all-sportfootwear/apparel agreement with Under Ar-mour.

Recognizing the accomplishments of Tem-ple’s student-athletes is a point of emphasisunder Bradshaw. The department of athleticsholds its annual “Breakfast of Champions” tohonor those who have excelled both athleticallyand academically by “committing to excellence”in April.

In 2006, Temple was one of 10 Division 1-Ainstitutions to earn the Overall Excellence in Di-versity Award bestowed by the Laboratory forDiversity in Sport at Texas A&M University. In2009, Temple received 11 perfect AcademicProgress Rate (APR) scores. Men's basketballand football posted their highest APR scores inschool history in school history in 2011. TempleAthletics received full recertification from theNCAA in 2009.

Temple athletics has also undertaken agreater role in community service under Brad-shaw. Via the Owl Outreach program, student-athletes have provided volunteer service tonumerous community and non-profit organiza-
