ANIMAL HOPE AND WELLNESS FOUNDATION The Animal Hope and Wellness Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization focused solely on rescuing abused dogs and dogs from the meat trade throughout Asia. We rescue them, provide full rehabilitation services, and then work to find them perfect homes.

PROJECTS: China Microchip Initiative The Animal Hope and Wellness Foundation (AHWF) is introducing a Canine Microchip Program in an effort to protect family pets from being kidnapped, tortured, and slaughtered for meat consumption in mainland China.

Our program will be implemented in specific target cities where the problem is most prevalent: Hunan, Guangdong, Shanxi, Nanjing, Changchun, Sichuan, and many others with Foshan being the supposed distribution center. We have constructed a map (see below), identifying key provinces in which our microchip initiative will be available to pet owners at zero charge.

Our microchip initiative will also concentrate on transport trucks headed for the upcoming Yulin Dog Meat Festival. It has been speculated that roughly 80% of the dogs transported into Yulin for the Yulin Dog Meat Festival are stolen pets. The aim of our Microchip Program is to provide the Chinese Government with indisputable evidence that this is in fact true, with the expectation that the government would then make a more concerted effort to protect its’ citizens and their property (their pets).

The project is set to begin in January, and will be funded solely by the Animal Hope and Wellness Foundation with absolutely no cost to the government, its’ citizens, or other local activist groups.

The end goal and objective of this initiative is to provide proof to the government that personal property (pets) are being stolen, and to establish specific consequences to those involved in the trade. We believe that the Chinese government has a duty to protect their citizens and their property, with the hope that this initiative leads to the eventual passing of legislation banning the slaughter and consumption of dogs.

PROJECTS: Local School Program Our local school program will teach children about being compassionate towards animals.

Busan Gupo Market Revitalization The revitalization of Busan’s Gupo Market entails the closure of 27 slaughterhouses (17 dog meat, 10 chicken, rabbit, sheep). With the help of local government and businesses, we will help train and assist these meat vendors into new line of work. The revitalization process is included in our economic development plan which is as follows:

1) Temporarily close The Gupo Market. 2) Redevelop the market with regulations banning animal cruelty

and remodel with new non-animal related businesses. 3) Clean up the surrounding area to better the market and region’s

reputation. 4) Provide opportunity for more jobs within the community. 5) Begin a marketing campaign for the region of Busan, the

owners of the market and the Mayor, to bring national attention to the positive changes they are making.

The Animal Hope and Wellness Foundation’s end goal, with the help of the Korean Government, is to stop the farming, capturing, torturing and killing of dogs in Busan and in return to rebuild and remodel the Gupo Market in a new honorable manor.

How to Help: Fostering We are always in search of new foster homes where a dog can be cared for and loved until a permanent home is found. Animal Hope and Wellness Foundation covers food, medical attention and all the supplies required for the dogs care. This is an incredibly rewarding experience. If you can open your heart and home to a foster dog please fill out our adoption application and put “FOSTER” for “Dog’s Name.” Home Checks Before someone becomes a new adoptive parent or a foster home, we conduct a home check. We are looking for volunteers with some previous experience in various locations across the Los Angeles area who can be available for home checks. Fundraising We are always looking for creative people who have ideas on how to increase our donations. As you can imagine our costs are extensive with all of the medical care we give and the transporting of the dogs from Asia. So if you have suggestions or would like to host a fundraiser for us please let us know. Dog Walking and Cleaning We welcome volunteers who can take the dogs for walks in the neighborhood and who are also willing to clean up the dogs’ living space. You can come anytime between 11-7pm seven days a week at our rescue in Sherman Oaks. There is no need to email or call us to let us know you are interested. Just come by and sign in! Hope to see you there. Drivers We often need to transport dogs to appointments. We will cover your gas expenses if you can spare your time and vehicle to help us get these dogs their medical attention. Groomers Are you a groomer? Some of these dogs come to us in such horrific condition, a bath and groom would go a long way to making them feel better, look better and smell better. We are looking for groomers willing to donate their expertise to help our dogs find their fur-ever families.
