During that time, Andygraduates High School. 11. 2007- Purdue Pharma pleads guilty for intent todefraud public for advertising Oxycontin asaddiction proof. 12. No one in Andys family is aware of his drug problem. 13. May 2008, Memorial Day weekend, Andy admits tohis dad for the first time, that he is addicted toOxycontinAndy spends 2 weeks at Brighton Centerfor Recovery. 14. In 2008 Prescription painkiller overdoseskill 15,000 people. Nearly 2.5 million Americans areaddicted. 15. 4 months after admitting he has aproblem September 2008 Andy is arrested on Heroin possession.Andy spends 2 more weeks in rehab. 16. Oxycontin and Heroin are almost molecularlyidentical.COST:$80 per Oxycontin pill$10 per Heroin hit 17. January 2009, Andy is 23 years old Andy overdoses for the first time on Heroin.No one knows for 6 months that this isAndys first overdose. 18. In 2009 it is reported that 140,000 newpeople over the age of 12 try Heroin. 213,000 ER visits are attributed to the drugthat same year. 19. Just four months after the firstoverdose, May 2009 Andy overdoses on Heroin for the second time. Hepasses out behind the wheel of his car and is takento the hospital by ambulance.Andy returns to rehab for 30 days. 20. August 2009, 1 month out of rehab Andy is arrested for retail fraud.He stole a hat.A few days later Andy overdoses for thethird time. He is found with the needlestill stuck in his arm. 21. January 2010 Andy violates probation by failing a drug test. He is ordered to spend 90 days in jail. Andy is released after 76 days for good behavior. He is clean, sober and ready to get his life back on track. 22. In April 2010 a supposed "abuseresistant", controlled release formulationof Oxycontin is approved for sale in theUnited States. That same year Heroin use doubles. 23. May 17th, 2010 Early morning hours Andy leaves a picture of himself as a child on the counter for his family to find. Around 10:00 a.m. a green truck approaches Andys job site. Andy is seen giving the truck passenger an item. 24. 11:45 a.m. the green truck returns and Andy takessomething and puts it in his pocket. 2:45 p.m. a call is made to Andys dad at theoffice, Andy is found not breathing in a porta john onthe job site.Andy fatally overdoses on Heroin. Andy is only 24 years old. 25. Heroin: First it takes yourmoney, then it takes your freedomand finally it takes your life. 26. The faces of addictionyour child, yoursibling, your friend, your neighbor.
