    ITEM A ANCILLARY WORK

    General

    This part shall consist of all items of work which are ancillary or incidental to the other partsof the specifications. Such works shall include general items, providing base camp facilities,maintenance of works, traffic control, guard rails, bridge railing, detours, traffic signs,pavement marking, reflectors and fences etc in accordance with these specifications and inconformity with the lines, grades, sections, dimensions and locations shown on the

    rawings or as re!uired by the Engineer.

    ITEM A" TRAFFIC ROAD SIGNS

    A#$#" DESCRIPTION

    This work shall comprise furnishing and installing traffic sings, permanent safety devicesand post assemblies in accordance with these specifications and to the details shown on the

    rawings. All sign faces and lettering shall be in accordance with Ministry sign standards or as shown on plans. %rior to manufacture and fabrication of the signs the contractor shallsubmit to the Engineer for approval detailed drawings showing letter si&es, traffic symbolsand sign layout. The permanent safety devices shall consist of roads posts and ha&ardmarkers and will be provided as per specification, drawings or as directed by the Engineer.

    A#$#$ MATERIAL REQUIREMENTS

    A#$#$." Sign Panels

    Sign panels for regulatory, warning and informatory signs shall be manufactured fromenameled steel or Aluminum plates of '#mm (")* in+ thickness as shown on the drawings.

    A#$#$.$ Reflec i!e S"ee ing

    The reflective sheeting used on the road signs shall consist of spherical lens elementsembedded within a transparent plastic having a smooth, flat out surface with a protectedpre#coated adhesive which shall be pressure sensitive for manual application or tack freeheat activated for mechanical vacuum#heat application.

    The brightness of the reflective sheeting totally wet by rain, shall be less than 708 of the

    above values.

    The reflective sheeting shall be sufficiently fle ible as to permit application over andadhesion to a moderately embossed surface. It shall not damage when bent 70 o over a 10mm ($ in+ diameter mandrill.

    The sheeting shall be solvent resistant so as to be capable of withstanding cleaning withpetrol, diesel fuel, mineral spirits, turpentine and methanol.

    The sheeting shall show no cracking or reduction in reflection after being sub9ected to thedropping of a $1 mm (":+ diameter steel ball from a height of $ M (6.1 feet+ onto its surface.

    The adhesive shall permit the reflective sheeting to adhere securely /* hours after application, at temperatures of up to 70o;.

    The reflective material shall be weather#resistant and following cleaning, shall show nodefinite fading. darkening, cracking, blistering peeling and not less than 318 of thespecified wet or dry minimum brightness values when e posed to weathering of 1 years.

    Samples of reflective sheeting shall be approved by the Engineer prior to the ;ontractor placing his order.

    A#/#' CONSTRUCTION REQUIREMENTS

    >oles shall be e cavated to the re!uired depth of the bottom of the concrete foundation asshown on the rawings.

    5ackfilling shall be carried out by using the surplus e cavated material if approved by theEngineer and shall be compacted in layers not e ceeding "1 ;m (6 in+ in depth. Surpluse cavated material shall be disposed of by the ;ontractor as directed by the Engineer.

    The posts shall be erected vertically in position inside the formwork of the foundation blockprior to the placing of the concrete and shall be ade!uately supported by bracing to preventmovement of the post during the setting process of the concrete. The posts shall be locatedat the positions shown on the rawings.

    Sign panels shall be installed by the ;ontractor in accordance with the details shown on therawings. Any chipping or bending of the sign panels shall be considered as sufficient

    cause to re!uire replacement of the panels at the ;ontractor@s e pense.

    The e posed portion of the fastening hardware on the face of the sign shall be painted withenamels matching the back ground color.

    All newly erected traffic road signs shall be covered with sacking or other material until their uncovering is ordered by the Engineer.

    Design-

    All sign faces shall be of the type, color, design and si&e as shown in the plans. Si&e andspacing of letters shall be as under-

    ITEM A$ PA$EMENT MARKING

    A#*#" DESCRIPTION

    This work shall consist of furnishing reflective pavement marking paint material for sampling and packing for the preparation of the surface and for the application of the paintto the pavement surface all in accordance with these specifications.

    The paint shall be applied in conformance to the si&e, shape and location of the markingsas shown in the rawings.

    A#*#$ MATERIAL REQUIREMENT

    Traffic paint shall be mi ed at the factory, ready for application without the necessity of using thinners and shall be of a smooth uniform !uality.

    The traffic paint shall be mill ground, and shall conform to the following composition- 1 .Sgallons ("*.7' liters+ of amyl acute shall be added to each 100 .S gallons ("*7$.61 liters+of the finished product sufficient %russian blue shall be added to the raw tung oil for thewhile traffic paint to overcome the yellowish tint.

    A#""#' CONSTRUCTION REQUIREMENTS

    The painting of lane markers and traffic strips shall include the cleaning of the pavementsurfaces, the application, protection and drying of the paint coatings, the protection of pedestrians, vehicular or other traffic on the pavements, the protection of all parts of theroad, structures or appurtenances against disfigurement by spatters, splashes or smirchesof paint or of paint materials, and the supplying of all tools, labor and traffic paint necessaryfor the entire work.

    The paint shall not be applied during rain, wet weather, when the air is misty, or when, in theopinion of the Engineer, conditions are otherwise unfavorable for the work. %aint shall notbe applied upon damp pavement surfaces, or upon pavements which have absorbed heatsufficient to cause the paint to blister and produce a porous paint film.

    The application of paint shall preferably be carried out by a purpose#made machine butwhere brushes are used only round or oval brushes not e ceeding "0 ;m (/ in.+ in width willbe permitted. The paint, when applied, shall be so applied, shall be so applied as to producea uniform, even coating in close contact with the surface being painted.

    Traffic paint shall be applied to the pavement at a rate of one liter to ' s!uare meter '$(s!uare feet+, and shall dry sufficiently to be free from cracking in from "1 to '0 minutes.

    This work shall consist of e ecution of all such work of repair, amendment, reconstruction,rectification and making good defects, imperfections, shrinkage or other faults as may bere!uired of the ;ontractor in writing by the Engineer during the period of Maintenance, of within fourteen ("/+ days after its e piration as a result of an inspection made by on behalf of the Engineer prior to its e piration. %eriod of Maintenance as defined herein is twelvemonths beginning the day following the receipt by the ;ontractor of the ;ertificate of ;ompletion issued by the Engineer.

    A#"1#$ CONSTRUCTION REQUIREMENTS

    If defects, imperfections and other faults such as potholes, cracks, abnormal wear and tear,settlement of pavement around bridges or culverts etc develop during the Maintenance%eriod, and are due to the ;ontractor@s fault or negligence by the Engineer, such defectsshall be corrected and)or reconstructed in strict accordance with the Specifications, both as

    to the materials to be replaced and to the ;onstruction e!uirements outlined under eachItem.

    A#"1#' MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT

    The work as described above, shall not be measured separately but it deemed to beincluded in the unit prices bid on the various pay items in the bill of !uantities and the;ontractor will not be paid any additional amount for such work.

    ITEM A1 PRO$IDE AND EQUIP ENGINEER8S OFFICES9 QUARTERS

    A#"6#" DESCRIPTION

    A#"6#"." General

    This work shall include providing Engineers ?ffices, Engineer@s Materials Gaboratory, andEngineer@s >ousing) Giving uarters, with all necessary utility services and connectionsincluding power supply, water, plumbing, sewage, drainage, grading, telephones and gas.The ;ontractor shall provide the above facilities in accordance with the Special provisions,Specifications and rawings and as directed by the Engineer.

    The ;ontractor shall provide furnishings and e!uipment for the Employer)Engineers officesmaterial, laboratory and living !uarters all in accordance with the itemi&ed lists furnished inthe Special %rovisions and rawings and as directed by the Engineer.

    All offices, !uarters, materials laboratory, utilities, furnishings and access roads shall becompletely serviceable and in top working condition at the time of taking over by theEngineer@s staff.

    All facilities, materials, e!uipment, furnishing and installations described above for theEngineer base camp facilities shall be completed within the Mobili&ation %eriod and in effectMobili&ation shall not be deemed complete until this work is itself complete.

    A#"6#".$ Ti'e f#r C#'(le i#n

    In the interim period, between the signing of the ;ontract and the completion of the 5ase;amp acilities, ready for occupancy, the ;ontractor shall provide hotel accommodations(or e!uivalent+

    for at least si (6+ personnel of the Engineer@s staff. In addition, during this period the;ontractor shall provide a completely furnished office with appro imately "00 s!uare meter (""00 s!uare feet+ for the Engineer@s staff. 5oth the hotel (or e!uivalent+ accommodationsand temporary office shall be sub9ect to approval by the Engineer. Also during this period,the ;ontractor shall provide surveying e!uipment, materials and engineering supplies inaccordance with the Special %rovisions.

    A#"3#$ MATERIAL

    urnishings for the residences of the esident Engineer Staff including beds, chairs, sofas,curtains, fans, telephones etc. shall be of the number, type and !uality specified in theSpecial %rovisions and as approved by the Engineer.

    ?ffice furnishing for esident Engineer and his staff shall include desks, chairs, lamps, filingcabinets, tables, curtains, sofas, telephones, plan racks, drawing boards etc. shall be of thenumber, type and !uality specified in the Special %rovisions and as approved by the

    Engineer.

    Materials laboratory and surveying e!uipment for the esident Engineer@s staff shall be of the number, type and !uality (or e!uivalent+ as listed in the Special %rovisions and asapproved by the Engineer.

    ITEM A6 MAINTENANCE AND SER$ICE OF ENGINEER8S *ASE CAMP FACILITIES

    A#"*#" DESCRIPTION AND MAINTENANCE REQUIREMENTS

    The ;ontractor shall maintain the entire 5ase ;amp, including the repair and)or replacement of any items contained therein and in addition shall supply allmaterials as stipulated herein, including all costs for paper towels, toilet paper, lightbulbs, fluorescent tubes, supply of water and electrical power, telephone calls,office consumable items and services as herein after specified.

    2ork by the ;ontractor under this Section shall be performed and provided for bythe ;ontractor from the date of occupancy of the 5ase ;amp by the Engineer untilthe date of the inal ;ertificate

    b+ Ca'( Sec%ri .

    The ;ontractor shall provide guard services for the 5ase ;amp on a twenty#four

    ($/+ hour basis. The total number and schedule of all guard personnel shall beapproved by the Engineer.

    c+ :ani #rial Ser!ices

    The ;ontractor shall provide 9anitorial services and supply for the entire base campfacilities. The services shall include floor cleaning, servicing and cleaning toiletsand septic tanks, window washing, replacing light bulbs and florescent tubes andother related duties including supply of the necessary tools, e!uipment andmaterials re!uired. Kanitorial services shall be performed on a daily basis withpersonnel and programming of the work as approved and directed by the Engineer.

    The ;ontractor shall provide laborers along with all tools, e!uipment and materialsto maintain the 5ase ;amp in a neat and attractive manner including daily garbageand trash collection and disposal of same at his e pense a way from the 5ase;amp.

    The ;ontractor shall maintain all fire e tinguisher as recommended by theManufacturer and or as otherwise directed by the Engineer.

    A#"7#"." Dis(#sal #f *ase Ca'( Facili ies

    pon completion of the %ro9ect and sub9ect to the date of the inal ;ertificate, the entire

    base ;amp acility, including e!uipment, fittings, furnishings, furniture, household effectsand all other appurtenances provided under this Item shall become the property of theEmployer and shall be handed over to him complete, and in a state of good repair.

    ITEM A3 SUPPLY AND MAINTENANCE OF $E7ICLES FOR ENGINEER

    A#$0#" DESCRIPTION

    A#$0#"." General

    The ;ontractor shall supply new vehicles of the number, type and !uality for the e clusiveuse of Employer and Engineer, and as specified in the Special %rovisions. The vehicles willbe owned by the ;ontractor and will include insurance against all risks, registration, annuallicense fees, ta es and permits. The ;ontractor shall also provide drivers and ade!uatevehicle maintenance which will include all repairs, lubricants, fuel, spare parts, tires andradio repair.

    A#$0#".$ Deli!er. #f $e"icles

    elivery of vehicles shall be made to the Engineer@s staff as they arrive at the 5ase ;ampSite. Schedule of deliveries shall be approved by the Engineer.

    In case of any delay in the delivery of the vehicles, the Engineer shall lease comparable

    vehicles on a daily basis until all vehicles are delivered, the cost of which shall be paid for directly by the ;ontractor at his own e pense.

    A#$0#".' Dis(#sal #f $e"icles

    ?n the date of the ;ertification of the inal >and over, all vehicles shall become theproperty of the Employer and shall be handed over to him in a good state of repair. Somevehicles may be handed over to the Employer during the Maintenance %eriod at thediscretion of the Engineer.

    A#$"#$ MATERIALS

    All vehicles shall be new and recent manufacture and shall be of such sturdy constructionas to with stand the rigors of %ro9ect use without fre!uent break downs.

    A#$"#' MAINTENANCE REQUIREMENTS

    Maintenance of vehicles shall include fuel, lubricants, spare parts, tires radio, battery water and repairs performed in strict accordance with the manufactures specifications andre!uirements.

    In the event that a vehicle is out of order regardless of cause for more than two days, the;ontractor shall provide a replacement vehicle for the duration of the repair time.

    A#$"#/ MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT

    The furnishing of vehicles, driver, servicing and maintenance including all gasoline,

    lubricants, and insurance etc, shall not be paid separately but the ;ontractor shall includethe cost of this item into rates of other pay items of 5ill of uantities.

    ITEM A* TEMPORARY ROAD WORKS

    A#$$#" DESCRIPTION

    The ;ontractor shall furnish, maintain and remove on completion of the work for which theyare re!uired, all temporary road works, such as slayer tracks, staging over roads, accessand detour and service roads, temporary crossings or bridges over streams or canals etcand he shall make them suitable in every respect for carrying all ;onstructional %lantre!uired for the work, for providing access and traffic for himself or others, or for any other purpose. Such temporary road works shall be constructed to the satisfaction of theEngineer.

    5efore constructing temporary road works, the ;ontractor shall make all necessaryarrangements, including payment if re!uired, with the public authorities or land ownersconcerned, for the use of the land and he shall obtain the approval of the Engineer. Suchapproval will not, however, relieve the ;ontractor of his responsibility, pon completion of the works, the ;ontractor shall clean up and restore the land to the satisfaction of theEngineer or the landowner concerned.

    A#$$#$ MATERIALS

    Materials used in the construction of Temporary oad 2orks shall conform to the applicableItems of the Specifications and as approved by the Engineer.

    A#$'#' CONSTRUCTION AND MAINTENANCE REQUIREMENTS

    ;onstruction re!uirements for Temporary oad 2orks shall conform to the applicable Itemsof the Specifications and as approved by the Engineer.

    Maintenance of Temporary oad 2orks shall be performed periodically and of such !ualityas to cause no delays or interruption to the normal flow of traffic generated by the;ontractor@s own e!uipment or by other vehicles using the detours. Such work shall include,but not limited to, immediate repair of pot holes, regular grading to maintain smoothness of the road surface, cleaning of culverts to insure proper drainage, repair of damaged culvertsand bridges which may affect traffic flow and installation of any signing which will facilitatetraffic flow etc.

    A#$/#/ MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT

    The construction, maintenance and disposal of Temporary oad 2orks shall not bemeasured separately for payment but shall be deemed to be included in the rates of other pay items of 5ill of uantities.

    ITEM A7 CONTROL AND PROTECTION OF TRAFFIC

    A#$/#" DESCRIPTION

    A#$/#"." General

    The ;ontractor shall keep open to traffic a portion of any e isting road during theperformance of the rehabilitation work provided that when approved by the Engineer, the;ontractor may by pass traffic over a detour road.

    The ;ontractor shall take necessary care at all times to ensure the convenience and safetyof residents along and ad9acent to the road.

    Any failure of the ;ontractor in the performance of these works will entitle the Engineer tocarry out such work as he deems to be necessary and to charge the ;ontractor with the fullcost thereof, which sum will be deducted from any money due or which may become due tothe ;ontractor under the ;ontract.

    A#$/#".$ Te'(#rar. Traffic C#n r#l

    In order to facilitate traffic movement through or around the works, or wherever ordered bythe Engineer, the ;ontractor shall erect and maintain at prescribed points on the works andat the approaches to the work, traffic signs, signals, illumination, flares, barricades and other facilities as re!uired by the Engineer for the direction and control of traffic.

    2here re!uired or where directed by the Engineer, the ;ontractor shall furnish and stationcompetent flagmen, whose sole duties shall consist of directing the movement of trafficthrough or around the work.

    A#$1#".' Single1Lane Traffic C#n r#l

    In all cases where single#lane traffic becomes necessary over a particular length of theworks or over the approaches thereto, the ;ontractor, in maintaining through traffic, shallprovide a single lane at least '.1 meter ("".1 feet+ wide on the roadway or embankment tobe kept open to traffic.

    The ;ontractor shall so conduct his operations as to offer the least possible obstruction,in#convenience and delay to traffic and shall be responsible for the ade!uate control of thetraffic using the width, of single lane leave specified.

    At places where such single#lane traffic is in operation, and when ordered by the Engineer,the movement of the ;ontractor@s e!uipment from one portion of the work to another shallbe.

    A#$1#"./ Pr#;ec Inf#r'a i#n Signs

    The ;ontractor shall within the mobili&ation period erect pro9ect information signs at all

    main rural roads crossing the pro9ect area and at the beginning and end of the contract. Thesi&e of the pro9ect information signs and the message thereon shall be determined by theEmployer and the Engineer.

    A#$1#$ MATERIALS

    Materials of which traffic signs, signals, barricades etc. shall be constructed will be asapproved by the Engineer.

    A#$1#' CONSTRUCTION REQUIREMENTS

    Traffic signs, signals, barricades, etc. shall be so placed as to be easily and opportunelyvisible to on coming traffic to insure drivers will know immediately what instructions they areto follow, such devices will be firmly anchored in place to prevent easy removal byunauthori&ed personnel.

    A#$6#/ MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT

    The work, as described above, shall not be measured separately for payment but it deemedto be included in the unit prices bid on the various pay items in the bill of !uantities and thecontractor shall not be paid any additional amount for such work.

    ITEM A"0 FINAL SITE CLEANUP

    A#$3#" DESCRIPTION

    5efore final inspection of the work, the ;ontractor shall clean the constructed road, materialsites, and all ground used or occupied by him in connection with the work of all rubbish,e cess materials, false work, temporary structures, e!uipment and parts thereof. All partsof the work shall be left in a neat and presentable appearance.

    A#$3#$ MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT

    The work, as described above, shall not be measured separately for payment but isdeemed to be included in the nit prices bid on the various pay items in the 5ill of
