WHO ARE THE PARENTS OF HENRY WHO MARRIED MARTHA MOORE?

1. Henry (1717-1793) and Eva Pyle? Smyth, the standard authority on the Van MetreÕs lists him as Henry and EvaÕs son, but their Henry Jr. was born about 1742 and this Henry married in about 1743.

2. Joost (1659-1710) and Sarah Du Bois? Their Henrick married Mary Fetters in 1738 and Hannah Bartlett in 1752. Then he died in 1759 almost 10 years before this HenryÕs last child was born. So they arenÕt the same person.

3. Jan ÓJohnÓ (1683-1745) & Margaret? Their Henry married Eva Pyle in 1736 and Hannah Pyle in 1756. This Henry married Martha (1728-1825) and her children (born 1744-1767) donÕt fit in to that time frame.

4. Isaac (1692-1757) & Annetje? Their Henry married Rebecca Du Bois in 1741 and she didnÕt die until 1806.

5. Henrick (1695-1759) and Sarah Elwell? This Henry is not listed in HenrickÕs will, but other wise the timing works. Henrick married Sarah in 1727 and had a child Joseph in about 1728. Sarah died in 1731. She could have given birth to Henry in that period of time although he would have been a bit young to have married in 1743. However Henrick is rumored to have been married four times so perhaps Sarah wasnÕt his first wife.

6. Abraham (1700-?) & Eliza? Joost and Sarah Du Bois had a fourth son named Abraham born in 1700. No evidence exists for this Abraham. I guess this is possible. There is no baptism record for Isaac either, but Isaac shows up in land records at least.

ÒIt is known that Henry built a fort on Muddy Creek in 1769 and was a member of the Goshen Baptist Church at Garrard's Fort, PA. He became one of the Commissioners of the New Washington Co.; he was serving as County Treasurer where he died in 1802/03. Martha Van Meter outlived her husband by some 22 years and is named in the will along with thier 13 children.

ÒUntil 1792 Henry believed the Ten Mile Country a part of Virginia and until that year held no allegiance to the State of Pennsylvania. This was the party led by Thomas Gist, which settled on lands sold by the Indian trader John Owens of Fort Pitt in 1757 to Abraham Teagarden of Frederick Co., MD. It was the land on which John Swan and Henry VanMeter each built a fort on separate branches of a run variously known as Enoch's Run, Swan's Run and Pumpkin Run.

Truly amazing men .I have tons of info on them from the Harrodsburg Historical Societ y. So my John must fit in here somewhere, but I really think with more res earch and someone to come forward with information, I m connected to yo ur line.

I have a cousin Jack Moore who presently lives in Union County, Ohio who a lso is working very hard on our tree. He is very educated on the histo ry of my family in Champaign, Union and Marion Counties, Ohio, and liv es a mile from where we first settled in Union County. He has sent me phot os of our family graveyard which has been severly neglected. Many headston es are broken and thrown in a pile. A complete shame. I m going back the re next summer to clean this up.
