Internship Topic:

Network Infrastructure Management and Application of Server Load Balancing System for Bank Asia.

Page 3: An Internship Presentation ! Bank asia !!

Objective of the study:

To understand the existing network infrastructure of Bank Asia Limited.

To find out the problems of existing network infrastructure.

To find out a possible solution.

To propose a new network design.

Company Profile:

Bank Asia Limited is a scheduled Bank under private sector established within the ambit of Bank Company Act, 1991 and was incorporated as a Public Limited Company under Companies Act, 1994 on September 28, 1999.

The Bank started commercial banking operations from November27, 1999

Bank Asia Ltd. has a total of 64 (up to August 2012 ) branches. All the branches provide online banking services

ICT Division:

Information Communication and Technology division of Bank Asia was established in the year 2003.

The core banking solution software Stelar was established in the year 2004 which enabled the bank to start its real time online banking service.

ICT division of the bank supervises the software operation management & network infrastructure management of the Bank.

Problems:

Low-performance servers receive many requests, while high-performance servers are underutilized.

There’s a content problem. Servers and applications are working properly , but are responding to requests with “404 Object Not Found.”

There’s a server failure. A server becomes unavailable due to a hardware failure or an operating system failure.

There’s a software failure. Individual applications stop responding, even though other applications are healthy.

Server Load Balancing and its Benefits:

Server load balancing is the process of distributing service requests across a group of servers.

Server load balancing addresses several requirements that are becoming increasingly important in networks:

• Increased scalability• High performance• High availability and disaster recovery

Load Balancing Algorithms

A key feature of server load balancing is its ability to intelligently direct service requests to the most appropriate server:

Round robin – A simple algorithm that distributes each new connection/session to the next available server

Weighted round robin with response-time as weight – An enhancement of the round robin method where response times for each server within the virtual service are constantly measured to determine which server will take the next connection/session

Fewest connections with limits – determines which server gets the next connection by keeping a record of how many connections each server is currently providing. The server with fewer connections gets the next request.

Disaster Recovery

This load-balancing products can also provide disaster recovery services by redirecting service requests to a backup location when a catastrophic failure disables the primary site.

How server load balancing system Solves Real-World Server Availability Problems

Problem: There’s a content problem. Servers and applications are working properly , but are responding to requests with “404 Object Not Found.”

Solution: Using content verification capabilities, Users never receive a “404 Object Not Found” message.

Problem: Low-performance servers receive many requests, while high-performance servers are underutilized.

Solution: This solution uses advanced server load-balancing techniques at wire-speed to properly direct traffic to the server that is best able to handle it.

Page 19: An Internship Presentation ! Bank asia !!

Cont’dProblem: There’s a server failure. A server becomes unavailable

due to a hardware failure or an operating system failure.Solution: Traffic is automatically routed around any server that

fails or becomes unavailable, while keeping failures transparent to users. Once a server responds properly , it’s automatically added back to the server farm to ease administration.

Virtual Network Computing

Bank Asia uses Real VNC software for Virtual Network Computing.

Page 26: An Internship Presentation ! Bank asia !!

Features

Real VNC uses the RFB prtocol for Data transfer via TCP port 5900.

RealVNC is a program to computers remotely take over.

It consists of two parts: a server and client component .

Conclusion

Server Load Balancing System can be easily implemented in the existing network infrastructure.

For the future network planning I would suggest application of intelligent networking in Bank Asia.

This internship was a great experience and I am looking forward to use this experience in future.
