Key learning point:

Y1: To demarcate most sentences using a capital letter.

Y2: To evaluate and improve writing to clarify meaning and sense.

Writing task: To design a poster promoting healthy eating and living

Description: We would like you to design a poster explaining why healthy eating and living is good for us. Use Swiggle and the resources provided to create a colourful poster with healthy facts to inform us why we should be eating healthier things and why exercise is good for us. Include as many facts, drawings, labels and sentences as you can.

Think about the purpose of your poster carefully and who you are writing it to. Year 1 make sure your sentences begin with a capital letter and Year 2 make sure your vocabulary is varied to make your posters more interesting.

Activity: Before you start your poster, it is important that you know which foods are healthy and which are unhealthy. Using the foods below, can you sort them into “healthy” and “unhealthy”.

Can you explain why some foods are unhealthy?

Healthy Unhealthy

Activity 2: Below are some facts (from the fact resource sheet) you could include in your poster. Year 1 check through to make sure Mr Milward hasn’t missed out his capital letters. Year 2 look at the underlined words and change them to something more interesting or use a conjunction to add in some more information.

a healthy diet leaves your skin nice. it keeps your body strong. it keeps your brain working.

Year 2 ideas:

nice healthy, glowing, beautiful etc.

strong and… because…
