Wellington Recreation Commission The WRC is operated through the USD 353. It is governed by five selected residents of Wellington who give their services to the community. The WRC Board holds its regular meetings on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7:00 am at the Recreation Center. Residents are invited to attend and are welcome to make sugges-tions or comments to improve the programs or facilities offered. Board members include; President- Hankie Holefelder, Vice-President- Tamara McCue, Secretary- Matt Barton, members– Amy Jenkins and John Brand.

Wellington Fitness Center The Fitness Center, 620-326-3435 is located on the 2nd floor of the Memorial Auditorium. The auditorium is currently being upgraded with ADA modifications, the FC is open to full capacity. GENTLE YOGA Explore gentle movements to increase flexibility, strength and

well-being. Students are led through stretches, yoga postures

and breathing practices, then guided into deep relaxation. Ideal

for those with chronic pain or stress, illness or injury. Leave

your troubles behind, wear comfortable clothing and join us!

SUNRISE YOGA This fast-paced yoga class is designed to strengthen the

body and mind through synchronized breathing and flow-

ing movement. The Vinyasa class utilizes movement as

well as stretching. Sadie will instruct you to move from

one pose (asana) to the next on an inhale or an exhale for

a great cardio workout.

HI / LO An energetic, upbeat aerobics class that is sure to get your body

moving with high and low impact movements. A great workout

for all levels of fitness enthusiasts, this class combines cardio-

vascular training and toning exercises, for a superior total body

workout. Hi/Lo Power Mix utilizes a wide range of

equipment including kickboxing, resistance bands,

and free weights

ZUMBA TONE When it comes to body sculpting, Zumba Toning raises

FITNESS CLASS SESSIONS New this Winter-Spring! For our fitness participants‟ convenience, class sessions are longer, three 6-week sessions re-

places the four 4-week sessions previously held. The costs are actually lower, if you enroll in all sessions you are receiv-

ing 18 weeks of classes instead of 16 weeks! All classes will be held at the WRC.

Student Special All students, high school and college, may purchase a one month membership for ONLY $10, to the Fitness Center thru the end of May! Students must show their current Student ID (or other proof of current enroll-ment) when purchasing their memberships at the FC. Students 14 & 15 years old must have an adult mem-ber (18 or older) with them to work out. 16 year olds may work out alone.

We have amazing Fitness Instructors & Trainers! Debbie Murphy is a Certified Personal Trainer and fitness instructor with over 34 years of experience at the Fitness Center. Debbie shares her ‘wealth of wellness’ knowledge for the benefit of her students, some have been taking her classes for many years. Sadie Black, CT has been the instructor for the ever popular Yoga classes, (a 6:15 am morning class has been added) for the past 5 years. Cindy Tracy came to the WRC in 2011 and fit right in with our schedule. She enjoys instructing the energetic Zumba classes. Crystal Dawson is the WRC’s SilverSneaker instructor, she makes sure our senior citizens stay limber and ac-tive Crystal’s enthusiasm make Silver Sneakers fun for all. She also instructs the Gutz & Butz class. Cherity Elder is a Certified Personal Trainer, who just joined the Fitness team. Welcome Cherity!

PERSONAL TRAINING The WRC is excited to introduce a new Personal Trainer to the Fitness Center, Cherity Elder! Cherity is a Wellington native, and has recently been certified through NETA (National Exercise Trainer As-sociation) as a Personal Trainer. Cherity joins seasoned qualified trainer, Debbie Murphy to assist the inexperienced and experienced exerciser to reach their fitness goals with new techniques and workouts. We have you covered for all your fitness needs! The Personal Training consists of one-on-one hourly sessions at which members will be introduced to new exercises, instructed in proper technique, and given advice on nutrition. If you need variety in your workout, let our personal train-ers kick it up a notch! Sessions usually include a cardiovascular warm-up followed by strength train-ing and ends with stretching. Who would benefit from Personal Training? Everyone! Our trainers can help you gain speed and strength for a specific sport, or help you with goals of weight loss or gain. MEALS IN MINUTES This hands on class will share useful information about how to plan healthful meals, prepare tasty, low-cost

foods that are quick and easy and help make dollars last through the month. We will work together to prepare three tasty and nutritious meals to feed a family of five that your family team will take home after class. Youth 12 years and up may attend with parent. NUTRITION FOOD ANALYSIS

Are you always wondering as you are going down the aisle at the store if that product you are putting in your cart is really that good for you? Ann Hunter can help. Ann, a registered and licensed dietitian works with the dietary department at SRMC and is also an instructor at Wichita State University. She will look at some popular food products and give you alternatives and suggestions to increase your nutritional wellness. PAINTBALL TRIP Run, crawl, or dive behind a tree stump, an old car, or tractor tires to avoid incoming fire! We‟re planning our Spring

trip to the Graffiti Paintball Fields by Belle Plaine. Players may use their own equipment, but must buy paintballs at the

course ($5 for 100 paintballs). Find your camouflage, tell your friends and come prepared for fun.

DATE: April 6th, Saturday

AGE: 6th-12th Grade

TIME: Bus Leaves at 12:15 pm from WRC, & returns to WRC @ 5:30 pm

FEE: $35 (includes 500 paintballs, equipment rental & transportation)

For more information on paintballs, Nitrogen & CO2 refills, etc. call the WRC. Bring your own snacks & wear long

sleeves, etc. for the trip. All participants must fill out a waiver form and have a parent or guardian’s signature.

Moms, enjoy a special evening just for you and your son! Aunts, grandmothers and caregivers are

also welcome to the Bowling Party at Meadow Lanes Bowling Alley. We will start the evening with

two games of bowling. After bowling we will enjoy pizza and pop. Please register at the WRC or

on-line by Wednesday, Apr. 10th at 5:00 pm. A $5 late fee will be charged Thursday and Friday,

Apr. 11th & 12th. Maximum ‘bumper’ lanes– 5.

The Wellington Recreation Center and the Chamber of Commerce are going on the road together– for a ski trip to Winter Park! Winter Park offers awesome skiing and fantastic views of the Colorado mountain scenery. A $50 deposit to the WRC or Chamber office reserves your seat on the bus. Con-tact the Chamber at 326-7446 or the Recreation Center at 326-3323 for additional information. Price does not include lift tickets or meals. Reservation deadline is Wednesday, Jan. 2nd, 2013.

Sleeper bus transportation, free shuttles to slope, 2 nights lodging at Beaver Village Condos; (with full kitchens, pool, hot tub), ski equipment; (skis, poles, boots) and experienced guides to take care of all the details

Easter Eggcellent Hunt Grab your flashlights and bring your whole family for this special egg hunt. We‟ll start the evening playing

Easter games with the Easter bunny and as soon as it‟s dark start the hunt. Each egg has been filled with candy

or coupons from participating sponsors, including gold and silver eggs with a special currency! After the hunt

we‟ll enjoy Easter treats. Participants are required to bring their own flashlight (no larger than 2 “D” cell bat-

teries). Children 10 & younger must be accompanied by an adult. Rain-out location; the Armory. Please reg-

Searching for a fun and easy way to celebrate a birthday? Stress no longer– let us plan your

child‟s party! The Wellington Recreation Commission offers three birthday party packages

that each last 1 ½ hours and each include use of the game room facility, trained staff to set

up, run party and clean up. Please reserve parties two weeks in advance to insure availability.

YOUTH SOCCER LEAGUE Come signup for a sport that children of all ages can enjoy.

This is a great sport to learn about teamwork and learn new

skills. Each participant is required to wear shin guards for

safety purposes. Teams will be divided after the Skills assess-

ment. Shirts are provided. Registration begins in January.

INSTRUCTIONAL SOCCER Kicking, Heading, Passing, and Dribbling are just a few of the

many fundamental skills taught during this 6 week class. So if

you have a child with the desire to learn some basic skills and

techniques this is a great beginner class for them. Shin guards

are a must for the safety of the children.

WINTER SOFTBALL CLINIC Get a head start on softball season this winter! WHS coach T.D.

Buck will instruct students on hitting and fielding to improve

their skills. Classes may be combined if they do not maintain a

minimum of six students each.

The City Wide Track Meet will be held on Friday,

May 3rd at the Middle School Track Field.

BLASTBALL

Are your children too young to play T-ball but need to get out

and play ball? Blastball is a new non-competitive sport used to

teach kids the basics of hitting and fielding. Blastball will help

kids get a head start on fundamentals and further prepare them

for T-Ball. Don‟t be afraid to sign up to coach; rules are simple,

no practices are required, and the game is fun for everyone.

COACHES MEETING: May 23rd 6:00pm at the Recrea-

tion Center.

LOCATION: Eisenhower Elementary Playing Fields

T-BALL The goal of this league is to help kids develop skills for base-

ball and softball. Coaches are encouraged to be involved on the

field to help teach the proper techniques during games. A par-

ent/coaches meeting will be held on THURSDAY MAY 23rd

at 7:00pm to divide up teams. REGISTRATION DEADLINE

MAY 17th.

YOUTH COACH PITCH This recreational league is designed to teach basic fundamentals

of baseball/softball in two separate leagues, one for boys and

one for girls (IF OUR NUMBERS ALLOW US TO DO SO.)

All players bat & play in the field during the entire game.

Games are played at Jefferson Park & each player receives a

shirt and a hat. Registration begins January 7. No Skill As-

sessment for Coach Pitch.

BABE RUTH SOFTBALL

The age groups consisting of this league are 10U and 12U.

New players and those moving to the next age division will

participate in the Skill Assessment and then be drafted to teams

by the coaches. Players returning to the same age division will

remain with the team that drafted them the previous year. A

shirt and hat will be provided to all players. This softball

league is a member of the South Central League. Wellington

teams need to QUALIFY through league play to play in post-

season. Coaches are allowed to take their team to any ASA

post-season tournament even though we are not affiliated with

ASA. Registration begins January 7. Age determination

date is 01/01/13. Copy of birth certificate is required.

RECREATIONAL LEAGUE Cal Ripekn Baseball is back in Wellington for another season!

This league is for those who wish to play at a recreational level

and learn skills needed to play baseball. New players and those

moving to the next age division will participate in the Skill

Assessment and then be drafted to teams by the coaches. Play-

ers returning to the same age division will remain with the team

that drafted them the previous year. A shirt and hat will be

provided to all players. Registration begins January 7. Age

determination date is 04/30/13. Copy of birth certificate is

required.

WRC BATTING CAGES Improve your hitting skills in the off-season in the brand new

batting cages put up at the Armory. There are two cages to hit

in and were put up by the WRC for anyone to work on their

skills at anytime during the year. NOTE: TEAMS THAT

ARE FORMED THROUGH THE WRC CAN USE THE

CAGES FREE OF CHARGE AFTER TEAMS HAVE

BEEN FORMED AND HAVE STARTED PRACTICING.

ADULT NOON PICK-UP BASKETBALL Come be a player at the old Junior High Gym each Monday,

Wednesday, and Friday from noon to 1:00 pm for pick-up

games of basketball. The fee is a $1 per visit and is paid by the

quarter at the Fitness Center or WRC.

GOJU-RYU KARATE Goju-Ryu Karate brings a pathway to internal peace, self disci-

pline, physical fitness, a peaceful way of life and a tradition of

nolds is a 4th degree black belt and has studied for years in

Wichita. Steve encourages all age groups to register, especially

adolescents and adults as positive role models for the younger

STROKE REFINEMENT Join the Wellington Swim Team for pre-season training this

spring. Volunteers are needed to help transport the partici-

pants, please help with the carpooling if you can. Please pre-

register by the Friday before the first training day. If a swim-

mer is not pre-registered, they will not be able to enter the wa-

ter. Dates, day and time will be announced on the WRC web-

What better way to improve fitness, condition and cultivate

your swimming ability than participating in a FUN summer

sport that could some day save your life? Swimming is great

conditioning for other sports as well! Football, softball, tennis,

you name it ~ Swimming works every muscle in your body and

takes your cardio ability to a whole new level.

Wellington Swim Team is a member of the Great Plains Swim

League and USA Swimming. Swimmers will compete in

weekly swim meets against swimmers in the same age group

this summer. Swim Meet locations and dates and prices will be

published in the Summer brochure. Enrollment in summer

swimming lessons is highly recommended.

WHS CHEERLEADING CAMP Join the WHS Cheerleading squad in this fun and energetic class! Participants will be taught cheers, chants,

stunts, jumps, and dance routines. Participants need to wear tennis shoes or dancing shoes, and comfortable

clothes. Class fee includes a Cheer Camp t-shirt that will be worn at the performance.

MOSAIC MAGIC Bring your imagination and broken china to this class!

We‟ll create a one-of-a-kind address plaque or bird

house using broken china and stained glass. We‟ll

make a design and mosaic pieces with glue the first

night, then apply grout the second. All supplies are

included in the fee, but you may bring your own china

if you wish.
