International Border Mexicali, Baja California.

• El Centro is accessible via Interstate 8, State Highway 86 and State Highway 111.

 

City History

• Established on April 16, 1908.

• 1940s: Shipping center for vegetables in the south end of the Imperial Valley.

• 1970s: Agriculture most important factor in the City’s economic life.

• 1980s - present: Government and Wholesale/Retail Trade are the two largest employment sectors.

Plenty of social service and recreational centers. Several common points of interest. Varying levels of education available to public

What are some opportunities for improvement you noticed with the windshield survey? Lots of room for expansion Improvement of roads Restoration or removal of old/condemned buildings

What surprised you most about the windshield survey? Despite zoning laws there are strange proximity of businesses (mental health facility next

to tavern and casino. El Centro is very large. Varying social services available to the public.
