painting
Paint like a ProFor an ultra-smooth finish, try Ultra Finish roll-ers. These premium microfiber rollers, available in 9-inch lengths and varying nap thickness, provide an even release of paint and deliver a consistent application from start to finish. Plus, they work great with any kind of paint and fin-ish, including satin, semi-gloss and gloss, taking the guesswork out of the equation.
When applying paint, start at the top and work your way down. For superior results, you'll want to fill the well of your roller tray with paint, dip the roller in half-way and then roll it back onto the tray's angled platform to easily remove excess paint. This will reduce dripping and improve overall paint cover. The best approach for applying paint? Use your roller to make an overlapping "W" pattern in a 2-foot by 2-foot area; then fill in and repeat.
For smaller interior paint projects or tight spaces, there are a variety of innovative mini roller choices that are versatile, lightweight and can quickly and easily deliver a perfect finish with smooth rolling action. These combined features make them the ideal applicator for a variety of projects like painting doors and cabinets, to freshening up tables, chairs and even bedroom furniture.
Keeping your colour convictionIf you're still feeling deprived of colour after your painting project is complete, never fret. There are several ways to add a pop of colour throughout your home without slathering the walls with offensive paint colours. Try incor-porating fun accent pieces in your favourite colours - think lamps, frames, pillows and rugs. You can even include larger focal pieces like royal blue armchairs or a patterned couch to make a bolder statement.
By keeping the overall aesthetics of your home neutral and inviting, and enhancing them with a few sight-provoking embellishments, house guests will soon be asking you for home decorating tips. And if your end goal is to get your home sold, consider these minor improve-ments a step in the right direction. ◘

D id you know spring is one of the best times to sell your home? And now that the housing market is heating up, there's never been a better time to do
it. But even if you're planning to stay put, chances are, there are some much-needed touch-ups you could be doing to keep your home in tip-top shape. The good news is, you don't have to break your back, or the bank, to do it. In fact, adding a new coat of paint is a quick, affordable, and possibly the most impactful, way to get your project done.
Prep, prime and primpMisusing colour can be a sure fire way to turn people off the purchase of your home. For a more inviting look that nearly everyone can enjoy, opt for neutral paint colours. A subtle beige, slight grey or even white can do the trick.
First, move furniture out of the room and place drop cloths to protect the floor. Remove any picture frames, outlet cov-ers and wall decor. Then, gently scrub the walls with a mild detergent and water mixture using a soft sponge to remove any dirt, grime or lint. Don't forget to prime your walls before applying colour to ensure the best end-results.

Nothing gets your day off to a better start than a tasty break-fast - but on most days, you're too rushed and stressed to enjoy it. Thankfully, on weekends and holidays, it's a whole
different story. There's time to relax, enjoy the company of family, prepare and serve that best-loved of all leisurely meals: brunch.
A table full of delicious dishes that inspire conversation and interac-tion is an essential part of a truly great brunch experience. To encour-age kids of all ages to linger around the table and enjoy the festive atmosphere, include a variety of options that will please all palates.
Catherine McCord of Weelicious, a family-centric food blog and cookbook author, offers some of her favou-rite tips for putting together the ultimate brunch:
Make brunch interactive and fun for kids. The more you get them involved, the more they'll be interested in the food you serve.
"French Toast on a Stick" turns a brunch staple into something a bit more fun. Make French toast cubes using different types of bread such as brioche, French bread, croissants or even regular sandwich bread. There's no need to worry that you don't have a particular variety - they will all produce delectable results.
Fill bowls with fresh fruits like sliced bananas, straw-berries, pineapple and melon balls for kids to skewer. Wash all fruits - even organic varieties - carefully.
Put out an assortment of drinks for everyone to make non-alcoholic "kiddy" cocktails: sparkling water, orange, cranberry or grapefruit juice, lemonade, herbal iced tea and sliced fresh fruits are great options.
Fill the buffet table with a mix-and-match assort-ment of glasses, plates, placemats, napkins and silverware. It will add visual appeal to the festivities and act as a conversation starter.
Sweet or savoury, formal or relaxing, brunch is one of those meals that can do it all, and be whatever you want it to be. With these tips, and McCord's recipe for 'French Toast on a Stick', you'll be well on your way to organizing an easy, yet impressive, brunch that will brighten any day.

BIG DESIGN TRENDSto try right now5
Every year home design trends come and go but it’s never too late to try something new. Update your décor and impress your friends (and yourself) at the same time, by including
some of this year’s hottest design trends.
PANTONE COLOUR OF THE YEARYear after year the iconic people at Pantone come up with their colour of the year, inspiring not only home décor trends but fashion and other design areas across the board as well. For 2014, the colour du jour is: Radiant Orchid, a gorgeous pinky purple-hue. An infusion of this beauty would be a welcome breath of colour anywhere - from kitchen to bedroom and every room in between.
FLORALSFlorals are holding strong and continuing to be on-trend this year, but they’re definitely growing in size. Now, pretty blooms, the bigger the better are a force to be reckoned with. What lovelier way to add some vibrant colour and bold patterns to your home than throw pillows, sheets or duvet covers with big bright florals. (Try to find some with radiant orchid for a double-dose of style.)
BLUE & BLUEBlack’s younger, lighter cousin grey has certainly had its heyday, but this is the year for something far more dramatic. Black walls are en vogue - think entire living and dining rooms--but if you’re not ready to go all in, try one accent wall or the always-in-style coupling with white. And when it comes to blue, think every shade--from lovely sky blue dishes displayed in your kitchen, to darker navy and white striped towels in your bathroom.
VINTAGEEverything old is new again but the good news is mixing and matching is totally ok. A distressed old-trunk serving as a coffee table or impressive antique maps framed and hung on the walls, not only serve as beautiful, on-trend décor pieces, but add a lot of intrigue (and conversation starters) to the room.
WARM METALSEspecially in the kitchen. Seems grey isn’t only taking a backseat in the living room, but in the kitchen this year as well. Warmer bronzes, golds and black are replacing sleek chrome and stainless steel when it comes to lighting and cabinetry accents. And if you’re really looking to make a big splash, try some bronze sconces in the kitchen.
