WELCOME Alex Joyner, District Superintendent

Bart Weakley, Host Pastor

Prelude: Market Street Bell Choir

BE THOU MY VISION UMH #451

1. Be thou my vision, O Lord of my heart;

Naught be all else to me, save that thou art;

Thou my best thought, by day or by night,

Waking or sleeping, thy presence my light.

2. Be thou my Wisdom, and thou my true Word;

I ever with thee and thou with me, Lord;

Thou my great Father, and I thy true son,

Thou in me dwelling, and I with thee one.

3. Riches I heed not, nor man's empty praise;

Thou mine inheritance, now and always;

Thou and thou only, first in my heart,

High King of heaven, my treasure thou art.

4. High King of heaven, my victory won,

May I reach heaven's joys, O bright heaven's Sun!

Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,

Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.

GOSPEL READING: ACTS 8: 26-40 (NRSV)

26 Then an angel of the Lord said to Philip, “Get up

and go toward the south to the road that goes down

from Jerusalem to Gaza.” (This is a wilderness

road.) 27 So he got up and went. Now there was an

Ethiopian eunuch, a court official of the Candace,

queen of the Ethiopians, in charge of her entire

treasury. He had come to Jerusalem to worship

28 and was returning home; seated in his chariot, he

was reading the prophet Isaiah. 29 Then the Spirit said

to Philip, “Go over to this chariot and join it.” 30 So

Philip ran up to it and heard him reading the prophet

Isaiah. He asked, “Do you understand what you are

reading?” 31 He replied, “How can I, unless someone

guides me?” And he invited Philip to get in and sit

beside him.

32 Now the passage of the scripture that he was

reading was this:

“Like a sheep he was led to the slaughter,

and like a lamb silent before its shearer,

so he does not open his mouth.

33 In his humiliation justice was denied him.

     Who can describe his generation?

For his life is taken away from the earth.”

34 The eunuch asked Philip, “About whom, may I ask

you, does the prophet say this, about himself or about

someone else?” 35 Then Philip began to speak, and

starting with this scripture, he proclaimed to him the

good news about Jesus.36 As they were going along the

road, they came to some water; and the eunuch said,

“Look, here is water! What is to prevent me from

being baptized?”

38 He commanded the chariot to stop, and both of

them, Philip and the eunuch, went down into the water,

and Philip[c] baptized him. 39 When they came up out of

the water, the Spirit of the Lord snatched Philip away;

the eunuch saw him no more, and went on his way

rejoicing. 40 But Philip found himself at Azotus, and as

he was passing through the region, he proclaimed the

good news to all the towns until he came to Caesarea.

Amazing Grace

(My Chains are Gone)By John Newton & Chris Tomlin

Amazing Grace! How sweet the sound that

saved a wretch like me! I once was lost, but

now am found Was blind but now I see

‘Twas grace that taught my heart to fear

and grace my fears relieved; how precious

did that grace appear the hour I first

believed.

My chains are gone I've been set free my

God, my savior has ransomed me and like a

flood his mercy reigns unending love,

amazing grace

The Lord has promised good to me His Word

my hope secures He will my shield and

portion be As long as life endures

My chains are gone I've been set free my

God, my savior has ransomed me and like a

flood his mercy reigns unending love,

amazing grace

My chains are gone I've been set free my

God, my savior has ransomed me and like a

flood his mercy reigns unending love,

amazing grace

The earth shall soon dissolve like snow the

sun forbear to shine by God who called me

here below will be forever mine Will be

forever mine You are forever mine

Merciful God, we confess that we have not

loved you with our whole heart.

We have failed to be an obedient church.

We have not done your will, we have

broken your law, we have rebelled against

your love,

CONFESSION AND PARDON

we have not loved our neighbors, and we

have not heard the cry of the needy.

Forgive us, we pray. Free us for joyful

obedience, through Jesus Christ our lord.

Amen

Leader to people :

Hear the good news: Christ died for us while

we were yet sinners; that proves God’s love

toward us. In the name of Jesus Christ, you are

forgiven!

People to leader:

In the name of Jesus Christ,

you are forgiven!

Leader and people:

Glory to God. Amen

Leader: The Lord be with you.

People: And also with you.

Leader: Lift up your hearts.

People: We lift them up to the Lord.

Leader: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

People: It is right to give our thanks and praise.

THE GREAT THANKSGIVING FWS 2257-A

Leader: …And so, with your people on earth and all the company of heaven we praise your name and join their unending hymn:

People: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest!

Leader: ….And so, In remembrance of these your mighty acts in Jesus Christ, we offer ourselves in praise and thanksgiving as a holy and living sacrifice, in union with Christ’s offering for us, as we proclaim the mystery of faith.

People: Christ has died; Christ is risen; Christ will come again.

Leader: …through your Son Jesus Christ, with

the Holy Spirit in your holy church, all honor and

glory is yours, almighty God, now and forever.

People: Amen.

WORD AND TABLE: SERVICE III, UMH

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy

name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on

earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our

daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as

we forgive those who trespass against us. And

lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from

evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power,

and the glory, forever. Amen.

Who’ll be a witness for my Lord?

Who’ll be a witness for my Lord?

Who’ll be a witness for my Lord?

Who’ll be a witness for my Lord?

WHO’LL BE A WITNESS FOR MY LORD

My soul is a witness for my Lord.

My soul is a witness for my Lord.

My soul is a witness for my Lord.

My soul is a witness for my Lord.

Who’ll be a witness for my Lord?

Who’ll be a witness for my Lord?

Who’ll be a witness for my Lord?

Who’ll be a witness for my Lord?

I’ll be a witness for my Lord.

I’ll be a witness for my Lord.

I’ll be a witness for my Lord.

I’ll be a witness for my Lord.

-Music and lyrics by Alex Joyner

Stay for a while and enjoy the

hospitality of Market Street Church.

They have prepared a wonderful

selection of refreshments

downstairs in the fellowship hall.

Leader:

The voice of God calls:

“Come meet me at the margins,

where waters lap the land,

where winds rush through open marshes,

where heaven touches earth,

and your souls meet their Author.”

CLOSING RESPONSE

ALL:

In the strong name of the Trinity,

we come to live on the edge.

Believing that God is able,

that Christ is sufficient,

that the Spirit is moving across the face of the waters,

we come to live on the edge

of a new and promised day.
