Project (VHP) is a National program to capture Veterans experiences for future generations.
• and A Volunteer Program of Tempe Connections.
• VHP local office is located in the Tempe History Museum.
Veterans History Project
• The United States Congress created the VHP in 2000 under public law 106-380.
• Our VHP Volunteer program of Tempe Connections, working through the Tempe Library and Tempe History Museum, was started in 2007 and is one of the founding partners of the VHP in Arizona.
• There are over 80,000 Veterans Histories already archived with the VHP in the Library of Congress.
Veterans History Project
• The Veterans History Project (VHP) is located at the Library of Congress American Folklife Center.
• VHP Collects, Preserves, and makes accessible the personal accounts of American War Veterans.
• VHP History records will allow future generations to hear directly from Veterans for a better understanding of the realities of war.
Veterans History Project
• In addition, those US Citizen Civilians who were actively involved in supporting war efforts are invited to share their valuable stories.
• These include but are not limited to War Industry Workers (Ship Builders & Rosie the Riveters), Merchant Marines, Women's Air Service Pilots (WASP’s), Medical Personnel, the Clergy, Red Cross, USO volunteers and many others.
Veterans History Project
• If you wish to tell your story, we simply ask you
to give us your name and contact information
(refer to brochure “We Want You Page!”).
• You will then be contacted to set up jointly
convenient times to complete some required
paperwork and to set a time and place for the
oral or video interview.
Veterans History Project
• Interviews have taken anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours. It’s your story and you can tell us everything and anything of your history that you feel comfortable with.
• When the interview is complete we will send one bio & DVD to Washington, one copy to you, and one copy to our Archives at Tempe Connections in the Tempe History Museum.
Veterans History Project
• As a War Veteran or Civilian who was a key
part of the War effort your experience is a vital
part of our American Heritage.
• Sharing your story, no matter how mundane
you may believe it to be, will not only honor
your service but also provide a broader picture
of Military involvement during the course of
History.
Veterans History Project
• Every small or large event that you can
remember will provide a deeper understanding
for your family, scholars, students, and future
generations.
• If you are interested in telling your story, please
open the brochure to the “We Want You!” page
and give us your name and contact information.
Veterans History Project
• If you wish to take a brochure with you and study it, please do.
