Veterans History Project

• Hello, and thank you for allowing me to join you today.

• My name is John C. Evans and I am an USAF Veteran serving in SAC from Feb 1954 through Feb 1962.

• I was an asst Crew Chief on a Boeing B-47 Medium Jet Bomber stationed at Pine Castle and Homestead AFB’s in Florida.

Project (VHP) is a National program to capture Veterans experiences for future generations.

• and A Volunteer Program of Tempe Connections.

• VHP local office is located in the Tempe History Museum.

Veterans History Project

• The United States Congress created the VHP in 2000 under public law 106-380.

• Our VHP Volunteer program of Tempe Connections, working through the Tempe Library and Tempe History Museum, was started in 2007 and is one of the founding partners of the VHP in Arizona.

• There are over 80,000 Veterans Histories already archived with the VHP in the Library of Congress.

• The Veterans History Project (VHP) is located at the Library of Congress American Folklife Center.

• VHP Collects, Preserves, and makes accessible the personal accounts of American War Veterans.

• VHP History records will allow future generations to hear directly from Veterans for a better understanding of the realities of war.

• In addition, those US Citizen Civilians who were actively involved in supporting war efforts are invited to share their valuable stories.

• These include but are not limited to War Industry Workers (Ship Builders & Rosie the Riveters), Merchant Marines, Women's Air Service Pilots (WASP’s), Medical Personnel, the Clergy, Red Cross, USO volunteers and many others.

• If you wish to tell your story, we simply ask you

to give us your name and contact information

(refer to brochure “We Want You Page!”).

• You will then be contacted to set up jointly

convenient times to complete some required

paperwork and to set a time and place for the

oral or video interview.

• Interviews have taken anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours. It’s your story and you can tell us everything and anything of your history that you feel comfortable with.

• When the interview is complete we will send one bio & DVD to Washington, one copy to you, and one copy to our Archives at Tempe Connections in the Tempe History Museum.

Veterans History Project

• As a War Veteran or Civilian who was a key

part of the War effort your experience is a vital

part of our American Heritage.

• Sharing your story, no matter how mundane

you may believe it to be, will not only honor

your service but also provide a broader picture

of Military involvement during the course of

History.
