The threevictims were identified asSabavat Sali, her daughterS Sirisha, and anotherperson M Bhaskar. Policesaid that Sabavat wantedto end her daughter’s andher own life as she wasunable to tolerate herhusband’s torture. Bhaskarwas a psychiatric patient.

Drive againstadulteration In a special drive, citypolice conducted raids at 13places in GoshamahalDivision of Hyderabad tocurb food adulteration andother illegal activities. Cops thwartsuicide bid

Hyderabad: Cops probing aracket involved in sellinganimal skins on the sly, ar-rested 17 people for killing aleopard and trying to sell itsskin.

A special operation teamapprehended the poachersover the weekend underGhatkesar police limits.

The accused have beenidentified as Anil, Srinivas,Jyothiram and Jagga,among others, are all resi-dents of Islampur village ofNirmal district and belongto the Goud community, whousually hunt wild boars anddeer for food.

Police said in March lastyear, they planned to trap ananimal by laying iron wirefencing around a pond in thedense forest of Birsaipet.However, they realised thefollowing day that a leopardgot electrocuted and died inthe trap.

“They skinned the leo-pard with knives and left it inthe forest for a week to dry,”said Mahesh M Bhagwat,commissioner of police, Ra-chakonda.

Later, they contactedanother accused Jaithu tosell the skin.

Jaithu contacted his rela-tives Manik and Limba to se-

arch for customers, and laterthey contacted other accu-sed in search of a customerwho could give a high prizefor the skin.

For past three months,the accused have been sear-ching for customers at Hyde-rabad for selling the leopardskin for about ̀̀ 20 to 25 lakh,said the police.

On Thursday, Rajanarsu,Mujahid, Rajashekar, Zaa-kir, Khaja Pasha and Raju as-ked to get the leopard skinfrom Manik Rao and LimbaRao for taking it to Hydera-bad to sell.

While they were carry-ing the skin towards Hydera-bad in a car, SOT Rachakon-da along with Ghatkesar po-

lice, acting on a tip off, stop-ped the vehicle and checkedthe car.

After seizing the skin,the six accused were takeninto custody along with sixmobile phones and the car.

After further investiga-tion, the police along with fo-rest officials arrested the re-maining 11accused.

Hyderabad: In a bid to dest-roy evidence, the four mainaccused who killed a leopardburnt the animal after theyskinned it, police said.

“During the interroga-tion, the four accused whotrapped the leopard in elec-tric wire confessed that they

burnt the dead body afterskinning the animal to dest-roy the evidence and left theskin in the dense forest todry up,” said Naveen Kumar,a special operation team in-spector.

Speaking to TOI, he alsosaid that the accused havebeen trapping animals by il-legally laying electric fence

in the forest. “We are suspecting they

might have killed and skin-ned more animals as theyperfectly cut the skin out ofthe body. Even the veterina-ry doctors said that they se-em skilled for the job. Howe-ver, they have not confessedanything on previous inci-dents,” he added.

State ideology and taking upterrorist activities in the nameof jihad.

During his conversationwith one of the Pakistani natio-nals, Omer introduced himselfas a new convert to Islam andregretted the fact that he was li-ving among kafirs (non-belie-vers). Omer lamented atrociti-es against Muslims both in In-dia and other parts of the world.

In May, Mohammed Amir ofIslamic Global School of Srina-gar, Jammu & Kashmir, contac-ted Omer asking him to arran-ge accommodation for fivemembers in Hyderabad, whowould be visiting to collect do-nations for their school in Sri-nagar.

Amir advised Omer, whoconverted to Islam, to follow thespeeches of controversial ZakirNaik and few others on the weband TV. Accordingly, Omerscrupulously followed the advi-ce and became a keen listener toZakir Naik’ speeches. The accu-sed was arrested after he cameunder the scanner of Telanga-na counter intelligence. Omerwas part of a module and he hada handler named Qahafa AlHindi. The security agenciesare trying to track Al Hindi.

Hyderabad:Cracking a whipon the electrical departmentfor not repairing a bent electricity pole and loose hightension (HT) wires, a districtconsumer forum here has di-rected it to pay `̀6.35 lakh to afarmer for damage caused tohis crop owing to a fire causedby an electrical short circuit.

Medak district where he hascultivated sugar cane. On No-vember 11, 2015, he claimedthat his entire crop was dama-ged owing to improper main-tenance of HT wires passingthrough his field.

He attributed the incidentto the poorly kept wires,which he said had resulted ina fire caused due to an electri-cal short circuit.

Deshpande stated beforethe forum that he has regular-

ly reminded the officials ofthe electrical department torectify the problem but to noavail.

While representative ofthe electricity department,appearing before the bench,denied responsibility for theincident claiming that the ac-cident happened because ofthe heavy wind, the benchwasn’t convinced. Though itdid dismiss the case againstthe sugar factory — the comp-

lainant had also blamed thefactory’s employees for not lif-ting the crop over the last oneand a half years, despite repe-ated requests — it did find theelectricity department re-sponsible for the mishap.

It subsequently asked thedepartment to not only pay`̀6.35 lakh to Deshpande forthe damage caused to his cropbut also instructed it to coughup an additional `̀20, 000 ascompensation.

Hyderabad: In a shockingincident, an undertrial who was produced before ajudge in Rajendranagarcourt on Tuesday, inflictedhimself using a blade infront of the judge. The policemen who were escort-ing him stopped him mid-way and shift him to hospi-tal.

The accused Sheik Amir,who has been involved inseveral burglary cases, wasbrought from jail to appearbefore the judge as his earli-er judicial remand was com-pleted.

After the police pro-duced him before the judge,Amir took out a blade fromhis pocket and started to in-flict injuries on his face,stomach and hands. It tooksome time for the policemento control Amir.

Rajendranagar policeare still perplexed as to howthe accused, who is in judi-cial remand, could have ablade in his possession.

“Amir was brought fromjail in a vehicle. He mighthave accidentally stumbledupon the blade when hewent to the wash room or inthe vehicle. Using that, hestarted to self inflict him-self,’’ Rajendranagar in-spector Umender told TOI.

The accused, who is a resident of Kishan Bagh,was shifted to a hospital fortreatment.
