Using TechnologyIn the Art Room

Digital Cameras

Students learned how to open digital photos in various programs, such as iPhoto, Word, and Graphic Convertor.

They needed to change size proportions, color, and resolution in order to print a large photo for their self-portrait assignment.

Here’s the results…

Computer Research

Students used the labs to research many different topics, one of which was animals.

They needed to find a quality picture of the animal they wanted to draw, and write a few notes containing interesting facts about that animal.

They presented the facts while showing the class their completed drawing.

Here’s the results…

Student Use of Keynote

One of the major 8th grade projects involved researching different types of cultural masks.

They needed to choose a mask, create a Keynote presentation about the mask’s history, and create the mask.

The students presented their Keynote after the masks were finished.

Here’s the results...

Teacher Use of Power Point

I found the best way to introduce an art unit was by creating a Power Point presentation about the topic.

It provided the students with a large visual, art history, and examples of the project.

They also learned about famous artists and viewed their work.

Food As Art

The students were introduced to a few artists (via Power Point) who specialized in creating sculptures of food, using materials such as clay, steel, and wood.

The students took notes about these artists, and then were assigned to create their own clay food.

Here are the results…

Graphic Convertor

The 7th graders are currently working on a self-portrait montage in the style of Andy Warhol, using Graphic Convertor.

They will need to use filters and effects to change/distort their self-portrait 9 times.

They will put all 9 altered photos together in a collage.
