ST. VINCENT de PAUL UPDATE These past several months have been challenging times for the St. Vincent de Paul Free Dining Facil-ity. With the closure of the Palco Marsh, closure of the Budget Motel, and the shutting down of the overnight camping area we have seen our daily meals go from 220 to 450 served. At Thanksgiving over 500 including the homeless, people on disabil-ity, senior citizens, fish plant workers, and children enjoyed a hot meal. As part of Eureka's plan for rapid re-housing the homeless, we are serving those waiting for housing opportunities with food and shelter as needed. For these increased services we receive no support from the City or County and re-ly on our generous community to keep us afloat. Please help us to serve the poorest of the poor by sending a donation to St Vincent de Paul, P. O. Box 1386, Eureka, CA 95502.
JOB OPENING CARE PARTNER-CATHOLIC CHARITIES Catholic Charities currently has an opening for a Care Partner. Position works at the Shaw Center with memory impaired patients. For information please visit their website www.srcharities.org/employment.

We would love to be your friend. The January dates are Wednesday January 4 6-8 pm St. Eugene’s, Santa Rosa Saturday January 21 2-4 pm St. Elizabeth Seton, Rohnert Park For further information call Debbie Simonson at 707-763-7165 or 904-463-1070.
THE GIFT OF GOD'S WORD On this day of gifts and gift-giving, it seems appropriate that we take a moment to reflect on the great gift of God's Word. Because it is creative, God's Word always points to its author, always calls us to respond. Because it is power-ful, God's Word can link the sublime with the ridiculous, the transcendent with the immanent, the divine with the human. Because it is graceful, God's Word establishes a relationship of deep intimacy between us and God. At the heart of God's Word lies a tantalizing tension be-tween the mysterious and the mundane. In our liturgical celebration, this unresolved tension both reveals the mean-ing of life for us and calls us to respond, to act upon that meaning. Once accepted and opened, the gift of God's Word is a gift that keeps on giving and keeps on calling us to give in return. It dares us to be like the gift-giver and to become gifts for others, not only at Christmas, but at every moment of life.
