The Parable of the Talents

1. The vital importance of this parable.

2. The master entrusts his property to his servants while he is gone.

The vital issue, the “talents” are golden moments of opportunity to use God-given resources for the sake of the kingdom.

a. The master is sovereign in the distribution of these opportunities.

b. The master is wise in the distribution of these opportunities “according to their ability.”

c. The master holds them accountable for what they do with these opportunities.

3. The way each servant handles their opportunities.

4. There will be a time of accounting.

For Christians it will be the Bema, the judgment seat (1 Cor. 3:10-15; 2 Cor. 5:9-10).

What is Jesus’ greatest joy?

The salvation of the lost

4. There will be a time of accounting.

We may be judged more for our sins of omission than our sins of commission.
