A different approach to Leadership Development

1. Leadership is something to be “caught” not “taught.” – Elicitation Model: The ability to lead is

already present in a young person, but it must be drawn out.

“Our task is not to put the greatness back into humanity but to elicit it, for the greatness is there already.” John Buchan.

2. A Values-based approach to leadership development: 6 days, 6 values

• Awareness - Knowing and understanding yourself, other people & your environment

• Focus - recognising and concentrating on critical and essential information

• Creativity - Seeing and implementing solutions, ideas and initiatives

• Integrity - Being reliable and trustworthy, remaining whole and true to your potential

• Perseverance - Enduring and remaining strong when faced with complication, tragedy and resistance

• Service - Sharing resources selflessly and effectively, using your strengths and experience to contribute to the greater good.

The physical space in which the programme takes place is an integral part of the learning experience; the geography, history and culture of the place is used to craft the narrative from which leadership lessons can be drawn.

Why we do it…

Our intention is to help young people to find it in

themselves to initiate change around them.

This will enable learners to create stronger

schools and communities through their leadership.

Programme Participants• School-based model• Participants on a typical

Leadership Academy consist of 10 learners, 2 teachers and the headmaster. This helps to ensure buy-in from the school and a conducive environment for learner-driven initiatives.

• Participants choose to be ambassadors for their school and community.
