TRANSCRIPT

The Bible talks about money, possessions and giving 2,350 times. That’s a lot. It’s more than Jesus talked about love, and more than He talked

about heaven and hell combined.

It’s almost as if God knew we would need lots of direction and clarity on the whole money and stuff

issue. Does He know us well, or what? So what’s in those

2,350 verses? The entire teaching of the Bible and money can be filtered down into eight words.

8 Words That Can Reboot Your Finances in 2017

SPEND LESS

The issue of contentment

Some people store up treasures in their homes here on earth. This is a shortsighted practice — don’t

undertake it. Moths and rust will eat up any treasure you may store here. Thieves may break into your homes and steal your precious trinkets.

(Matthew 6:19 – The Voice)

The love of money causes all kinds of trouble. Some people want money so much that they have given up their faith and caused themselves a lot of pain. (1 Timothy 6:10 – Contemporary English Version)

Don’t fall in love with money. Be satisfied with what you have.

(Hebrews 13:5 – Contemporary English Version)

I don’t understand why you spend your money for things that don’t nourish or work so hard for what leaves you empty. (Isaiah 55:2 – The Voice)

REBOOT PRINCIPLE Learn to live below your means.

SAVE MORE

The issue of wisdom

You lazy people, you should watch what the ants do and learn from them. Ants have no ruler, no boss,

and no leader.  But in the summer, ants gather all of their food

and save it. So when winter comes, there is plenty to eat. (Proverbs 6:6-8 – Easy To Read Version)

The wise man saves for the future, but the foolish man spends whatever he gets.

(Proverbs 21:20 – Living Bible)

A wise man thinks ahead; a fool doesn’t and even brags about it!

(Proverbs 13:16 – Living Bible)

REBOOT PRINCIPLE Make a plan to save for the future

DON’T OWE

The issue of maturity

Keep out of debt and owe no man anything, except to love one another . . .

(Romans 13:8 – The Amplified Bible)

The wealthy rule over the poor, and anyone who borrows is a slave to the lender.

(Proverbs 22:7 – International Student Version)

It is better not to make a vow than make it and not fulfill it.

(Ecclesiastes 5:4 – New American Bible Revised Edition)

Godliness, along with contentment, does put us ahead but not in the ways some

imagine. You see we came into this world with nothing, and nothing is going with us on the way out!

So as long as we are clothed and fed, we should be happy.  But those who chase riches are constantly

falling into temptation and snares. They are regularly caught by their own stupid and harmful desires, dragged down and pulled under into ruin

and destruction.

For the love of money—and what it can buy—is the root of all sorts of evil. Some already have

wandered away from the true faith because they craved what it had to offer; but when reaching for

the prize, they found their hands and hearts pierced with many sorrows.

Don’t let this happen to you —run away from these things!

(1 Timothy 6:6-11 – The Voice)

REBOOT PRINCIPLE If you can’t pay for it, don’t buy it.

(Exception: MORTGAGE)

GIVE FIRST

The issue of obedience

I am the LORD All-Powerful, and I challenge you to put me to the test. Bring the entire ten percent into the storehouse, so there will be food in my house.

Then I will open the windows of heaven and flood you with blessing after blessing.

(Malachi 3:10 – Contemporary English Version)

Give freely and spontaneously. Don’t have a stingy heart.

The way you handle matters like this triggers GOD, your God’s, blessing in everything you do,

all your work and ventures. (Deuteronomy 15:10 – The Message)

Don’t hold back—give freely, and you’ll have plenty poured back into your lap —a good measure, pressed down, shaken together,

brimming over. You’ll receive in the same measure you give. (Luke 6:36 – The Voice)

The purpose of tithing is to teach you to always put God first in your lives.(Deuteronomy 14:23 – Living Bible)

REBOOT PRINCIPLE Give God your first and best

and He will bless the rest

Let’s Pray
