YOUR FAMILY

Pastor Chuck Bernal - January 15, 2017

By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established;

through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures.

(Proverbs 24:3-4 – NIV)

___________________________ ______________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________ ___________________________It takes wisdom to have a good family and It takes understanding to make it strong It takes knowledge to fill a home with rare and beautiful treasures.

(Proverbs 24:34 - EXP)

FAMILY REBOOT PRINCIPLE 1:

You need the right ________________________________ (God’s wisdom)

By wisdom a house is built . . .

COMMITMENT 1: Build your family on the ______________Unless the Eternal Lord builds the house, those who labor to raise it will have worked for nothing. Unless the Eternal Lord stands watch over the city, those who guard it have wasted their time. (Psalm 127:1 – Voice)

COMMITMENT 2: Base your family in the _______________We, of course, have plenty of wisdom to pass on to you once you get your feet on firm spiritual ground, but it’s not popular wisdom, the fashionable wisdom of high-priced experts that will be out-of-date in a year or so. God’s wisdom is something mysterious that goes deep into the interior of his purposes. You don’t find it lying around on the surface. It’s not the latest message, but more like the oldest—what God determined as the way to bring out his best in us, long before we ever arrived on the scene.

(1 Corinthians 2:6-8 – Msg)But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of

mercy and good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere. (James 3:17 – NLT)If any of you needs wisdom to know what you should do, you should ask God, and he will give it to you. God is generous to everyone and doesn’t find fault with them. (James 1:5 – GWT)

FAMILY REBOOT PRINCIPLE 2:

You have to work hard to make it ___________ (Mutual understanding)

through understanding it is established . . . Live together in harmony, live together in love, as though you had only one mind and one spirit between you. Never act from motives of rivalry or personal vanity, but in humility think more of each other than you do of yourselves. None of you should think only of his own affairs, but should learn to see things from other people’s point of view. (Philippians 2:3-4 – Ph)

COMMITMENT 1: Focused _________________________________ (TIME)COMMITMENT 2: Honest ___________________________________ (TALK)

FAMILY REBOOT PRINCIPLE 3:

You continue the _____________ and don’t give up (Continual learning)

through knowledge its rooms are filled . . . Stop lying to each other; tell the truth, for we are parts of each other and when we lie to each other we are hurting ourselves.  If you are angry, don’t sin by nursing your grudge. Don’t let the sun go down with you still angry—get over it quickly;  for when you are angry, you give a mighty foothold to the devil . . . Don’t use bad language. Say only what is good and helpful to those you are talking to, and what will give them a blessing . . . Stop being mean, bad-tempered, and angry. Quarreling, harsh words, and dislike of others should have no place in your lives.  Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God has forgiven you because you belong to Christ. (Ephesians 4:25-26, 29, 31-32 – LB)

COMMITMENT 1: Resolve _____________________________ quickly

COMMITMENT 2: Offer ________________________________ freely

Take on an entirely new way of life — a God-fashioned life, a life renewed from the inside and working itself into your conduct as

God accurately reproduces his character in you. (Ephesians 4:22-24 - Msg)
