Reading 5 Day 2 – Figurative Language: Simile, Metaphor,

Personification

Pair up and discuss about the meaning of the photos that I’ll show.

Did you have the same interpretation as your partner?

How did you figure out the meaning of the photo quotes?

Did you clearly visualize the meaning?

Which photo quote made the most IMPACT?

FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE

Figurative Language ( or figures of speech) - Creates pictures in the mind

of reader or listener.-We use it to add color,

interest, and awaken the imagination.

1.) Simile – compare using like or as.

Anna fights like a lionLex swims as fast as a fishJohn slithers like a snake

2.) Metaphor – Compare without using like or as.

The hospital was a refrigerator.Books are keys to your imagination.

3.) Personification –

Human qualities are given to animals, objects or ideas.

The stars danced playfully in the moonlit sky.

The wind sang through the meadow.

Use your whiteboards and identify if the figure of speech used is a simile, metaphor or personification.
