These are strictly race boots – they are so

armoured and the sole is so rigid they make

walking uncomfortable. But if you want the

best protection nothing comes close.

Hand-made, with a carbonfibre heel, Kevlar

inner boot for amazing ankle articulation

control, and a thick kangaroo leather outer.

Full marks from the CE tests and a rigid

ankle articulation brace that could make a

real difference in a crash. Plastic is

everywhere, which helps the abrasion

score. Inside all that plastic the leather feels

as good as any, the sole is sturdy and the

toe sliders metal. Fit is really snug and they

feel very safe. There’s a separate inner

bootie that has D30 ankle armour.

Getting them on can be a faff, and they

feel too rigid sometimes in the cold. The

plastic looks old very quickly.

Strangely has the lowest CE score of any

boot tested. But these are a racing boot so

feel and thorough ankle articulation control

are put before more road-based protection.

The most comfortable, lightweight boots

on test. Updated version also available.
