local youth belonging toremote areas of RajouriDistrict who returned aftersuccessfully completing a26 days basic mountaineer-ing course at Atal BihariVajpayee Institute of

Mountaineering and AlliedSports, Manali.

The committee membersincluding Chief EngineerJKPDC, SDM PadderSanjeev Rana, representa-tives of Pollution Control

Board, Tehsildar Atholi,BDO Atholi and sectoral offi-cers interacted with a largenumber of public from Atholi,Karthai and Sohal the vil-lages likely to be affected bythe project.

The public was informedabout the importance of theproject and its various keycomponents were read out tothem. It was informed that165 meter high concretegravity dam will be construct-ed and for which around 32hectare land is requiredwhich would include State,

JKPDC assured that duringthe execution of the projectthe impact on the air, noiseand water pollution will betaken care of.

Consultants of the projectgave a detailed resume of var-ious components of the pro-jected environment manage-ment plans.

The locals demanded rea-sonable compensation forthe private land to beacquired for the project, pref-erence to local youth in

employment and early startof execution of the project.

They also demanded thatthe area be provided free elec-tricity after completion of theproject. DistrictDevelopment Commissioner,while replying to the queriesof the public assured that thearea development plan wouldexclusively be used for thedevelopment of the Padder.He also said that JKPDCshall impart training to theyouth of Padder so that atthe time of the execution thelocal youth may get jobs.

STATE TIMES NEWSPOONCH: The MotorVehicle Department (MVD)came heavily on the trafficrule violators in which fivetractors and five motorcycleswere seized and a fine of Rs10,000 was recovered fromother vehicles on Sunday.

The ARTO Poonch AbdulRahim alongwith his teamlaid Nakas at Kanuiyan andDeghwar and checked all thevehicles to ensure strict com-pliance of the traffic rules.The ARTO seized five trac-tors and five motorcycleswhich were plying withoutdocuments.

The ARTO also Challanednumber of other vehicles

including two wheelers, threewheelers, buses, matadors,load carriers and privatevehicles and recovered a fineof Rs 10,000 for using pres-sure horns, driving withouthelmets, overloading and not

possessing complete docu-ments.

STATE TIMES NEWS KUPWARA: The DistrictDevelopment CommissionerKupwara Khalid Jahangiron Sunday convened a meet-ing of officers of education,Revenue, police depart-ments to review the overallarrangements made forsmooth and fair conduct ofBOSE examination in thedistrict Kupwara, commenc-ing from November first.

The Chief EducationOfficer (CEO) Kupwara,District EducationPlanning Officer Kupwara,Tehsildars, ACR andSuperintendents of exami-nations were present in themeeting.

It was given out that forover 10,000 students 101examination centres havebeen established for 10thclass, while 6,000 studentswill appear in 58 examina-tion centre for 12th.

The DDC Kupwarastressed upon all stake hold-ers to ensure smooth andfair examinations are con-ducted. The superintend-ents were directed to visitthe centres earlier to inquireabout the facilities providedto the students in theseexamination centres. Theofficials assured the chairfor better performance dur-ing the BOSE examina-tions.

He emphasized uponofficers and concerned staff tomake this initiative successful,adding everyone should to workin coordination with otherdepartments, so that sex deter-mination of the fetus will be con-trolled and all those inv(loved insuch activities will be punished.The health officials were direct-ed to strictly implementPC&PNDT Act in the district.He urged upon concerned offi-cials to ensure the improvementin sex ratio at 10 percent peryear, reduce mortality rate andincrease girl enrollment in high-
