Fall Rally is a district event where the divisions of

CNH KIWIN’S came together to support Pediatric

Trauma Program through activities such as Penny

Wars, Pieing, Games, and of course, SPIRIT BATTLES!

Have a holly, jolly, MERRATEE Christmas Manatees! The

last DCM of the year was filled with amazing spirit and

activities such as white elephant, workshops, and a pho-

tobooth!

WipeOut Run | November 7th, 2015

“If you ask people what game show they would like to

participate in, most would probably answer Wipe Out.

That's why the members of La Quinta KIWIN'S were ecstatic to go to the

Wipe Out Run on Saturday, November 7, 2015. Members met up at the

front office at noon with their friends and chatted with one another be-

fore they set out to the event. After checking in, volunteers were tasked

with various duties like registering runners, monitoring the race courses and

with the obstacles, and passing out water to the runners. The event itself

was quite long, but volunteers kept their bright smiles as they worked and

interacted with the tired runners. Much to the delight of the volunteers,

the project coordinators were nice enough to let them try out the different

obstacles after the run was over. So although the event was hot and long,

volunteers went home knowing that they made someone smile with their

hard work. It also helped that they got to jump on the Big Red Inflatable

Balls.”

Melia deserves to be recognized as Member of the

Month for so much. Even as a freshman, she has shown

so much dedication and pride in the club. She has gone

to every single one of our meetings since the beginning

of the year, and was one of the first few to turn in their

membership application. In November, she volunteered at JDRF and came out

to Fall Rally. In order to prep, she came to both spirit nights held for Jet as well as

the one held within our school. Because she came to the Jet spirit nights, she

was able to lead the cheers for our members! When they didn’t understand

some things, she was able to talk it through with them and teach them slowly

and thoroughly. Segerstrom has this program called internship in which we in-

struct a few members and train them on the positions we have on board to en-

sure that they are well-informed by the time elections come around. Melia was

the first one to sign up for this, and she also expressed enthusiasm when it was

announced. She’s never afraid to ask questions at meetings, and she’s always

welcoming to others. She is open to new things, and has even showed interest

in the position of President when signing up for internship. Melia has a lot of po-

tential and I hope she will be recognized for Member of the Month.

MELIA GALVAN

Throughout this month, Ashley Nguyen has shown initiative

as a board member by coming up with ideas for service

events as fundraisers, and acting upon them. When the idea

of selling KIWIN'S sweatpants was brought up, she took initia-

tive by making sure a design was created and finding a

place there the sweatpants could be customized. She also sent constant sugges-

tions for service events, such as the Color Run in Irvine. The four core values of Key

Club International are clearly demonstrated by her. By taking initiative for certain

fundraisers and service events, she has shown her leadership. At Walk with Me, she

made sure members were on task while other board members were absent. She

also checked and double checked to make sure everyone going to Fall Rally was

on a list and that all the money was accounted for. She shows her care by reach-

ing out to general members and taking consideration of their concerns, which she

brings up either at board meetings or through messenger. In the beginning of the

term, she was a little shy and reserved; however, now she gives her opinion at

board meetings often and isn't afraid to assert and explain why she thinks so. She

also makes sure to acknowledge the other side when necessary. In this way, she

has built her character from someone shy to someone who has the characteristics

of a leader. Lastly, she has never been not-inclusive. She listens to everyone and

socializes well with people in and out of the club. As an embodiment of the four

core values, Ashley has shown incredible dedication as improvement this month,

and I look forward to what she'll do next month!
