Following the success of our Annual Libya Infrastructure & Construction Summit where we brought over 200 senior level delegates together, IRN is proud to provide an equally strong forum, the Maghreb Infrastructure & Construction 2013 Summit, taking place in September 2013 in Morocco. The MIC 2013 Summit is one of the first summits looking into the infrastructure investment opportunities within the Maghreb countries: Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia.

MIC 2013 is a high-profile forum that aims to support the expansion of foreign investment in the region by addressing the opportunities, strategies and challenges around upcoming infrastructure projects within the transport and energy sectors.

Ministerial updates will highlight the national infrastructure plan for each country, and the opportunities and challenges the Maghreb Region offers for international tenders. Furthermore, issues around institutional frameworks, successful stories of Public and Private Partnerships projects and open calls for tenders will all be discussed during the summit.

The Summit will provide you with numerous opportunities to fully understand where you can invest and how to see a return on your investment capital. You will walk away with informed knowledge of the region and meet the right representatives within each country.

…For companies that want to find out about the new infrastructure and construction projects in the Maghreb region to better understand where the best investment opportunities are

Morocco’s Government increased its spending on infrastructure projects to MAD400bn (US$47.26bn) in the past few years and it’s forecasted only to increase. Roads, ports, airports and railways have been amid the ones to benefit from the intense spending, providing an avalanche of established domestic and international firms. Other large scale projects such as the Tangier-Med port, developing Casablanca airport, Casablanca - Tangier high-speed rail and many others, demonstrate the scale of infrastructure developments that the country is currently working on. This is reflected in the growth of the economy, which has increased by 4.5% in the recent years. Additionally, international trade in 2012 has increased by 20% and Morocco ranks number one in North Africa for attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) in 2012. Morocco launched several plans for strategic sectors that will foster strong and sustainable economic growth. This reform momentum is supported by an innovative contracting approach and PPP advocating greater and coordinated participation of the private sector in the development of sectoral strategies and policies along with the running of projects allowing to refocus the state’s role on its regulatory powers. The MIC 2013 Summit acts as a promoter of investment in Morocco, especially as a particular focus is given to enhancing the business climate and increasing competition through transparency that was put in place to support future projects and tender opportunities.

Since its transition into a democratic state, Tunisia is on its way to becoming both a politically and socially stable country. The MIC 2013 Summit will provide international investors and contractors the opportunity to uncover the huge potential in the region. As a privileged partner of the European Union and its geographical proximity to Europe, Tunisia continues to be an attractive host country for foreign investment, especially in the energy sector.Tunisia has been experiencing very positive export growth at the rate of 3.9% and at an investment rate of 22.4%. On average, growth has always been at about 5%; that is more than four times that of the demography. Tunisia is a privileged partner of the European Union and its geographic proximity to Europe is also an advantage for Tunisia.

The MIC 2013 Summit will offer a detailed account of all the infrastructure investment opportunities in Algeria, which has witnessed a growth in infrastructure projects. There have been many developments within its transportation sectors, such as 13 expansion railway projects that were launched since November 2012. These projects will further develop the existing 3,919 km national rail network by 2,120 km, developing the Algiers metro and maritime. They also have development projects in the renewable energy sector, whereby Algeria and the European Union have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop energy cooperation. Developing energy cooperation between Algeria and the EU is key especially for cooperation in the conventional and renewable energy sectors, as well as the transfer of technology, and is expected to help boost investment in the country. This has an influence on the economy as it grew by 2.5% in 2012 and it is projected to grow by 3.2% in 2013, and by 4.0 % in 2014, as there are further plans to develop Algeria’s energy sector by building new turbines and utilizing its untapped potential. Algeria has the capability and land mass to be a large market, and it has proven to be a socially and politically stable region, which continues to invite foreign investment. The MIC 2013 Summit will highlight the country’s national infrastructure plan, and point interested investors in to the right sectors.
