This week has been about ‘Learning to Learn’
This means the children have been learning where things are, routines and ow they can be successful learners all round.
Please ensure that children have healthy tuck options (fruit for example) for break times.
Children can purchase tuck before school at the Crest Road entrance on their way to class.
All children have been given a reading book and their Reading Record.
Children should read for at least 10 minutes a night and record it in the Reading Record.
Please sign each day and send in to school.
Our topic launch day is on Monday.
Children can come to school in sports clothing (or wear their school PE kit if that is easier).
We have explored our reading books in class and have enjoyed some whole class reading activities.
It has been a challenge for some remembering how to write after the holiday break.
We have learnt where the resources are kept in our classes that will support us.
We have practised recalling some simple maths facts through games and challenges.
Our brains have anywhere between 86 billion and 100 billion neurons – the cells that transmit signals throughout the brain. This is about half the number of stars in the Milky Way.
This week the children met their PE teachers.
They discussed expectations and played some simple listening and command games.
We discussed what we will do in French: how we will learn and the sort of ways we will do so.
We enjoyed singing and completing some fun team activities.
Well done to all of Year 3 for an excellent start to the school year!
It has been fantastic to see how well everyone has settled in.
Our Core Values are: Respect, Positivity, Honesty, Perseverance and Aspiration.
We have been exploring how they will help us be successful learners.
The children have voted for their School Councillors this week (one per class).
Democracy in action!

This week has been full of
adventures. We have had
our topic launch day and we
have begun our journey into
Year 3 Maths and English.
Please make sure water
bottles are packed into
your bags so that you can
grab a drink at any
convenient time in class.
Children will receive home learning
each week which is to be handed
in the next Friday.
- Daily reading
- Weekly maths
- Weekly spellings
- Weekly handwriting
This week we have made edible ‘blood’ to
decorate cakes with (yum, yum!),
completed puzzles, tested our hearts and
lungs and so much more as we have been
learning all about: ‘What Happens Inside
Us?
’We have written some excellent recounts
of our Topic Launch Day too.
This week, the children have had a
go at writing a script. They’ve used a
clip from Finding Nemo as the
stimulus.
We’ve been exploring our new book
‘The Wolf, the Duck and The Mouse’
and we plan to use it as a base for a
new and vastly improved script.
We have assessing what the children
can remember from their maths
learning last year. We have set fast
paced carousel activities that
challenged the children to think
quickly.
The children have been learning and
practising times tables too.
Did you know that your heart
pumps out about 7,600 litres
of blood each day?
The children have learnt about
the three phases of a warmup:
The pulse raiser, stretching and
a sport specific exercise.
Our muscles are like playdough -
if they are cold, they snap!
This week, the children have
learnt how to use a bi-lingual
dictionary.
We have discussed that nouns in
French have different genders.
Our topic launch day. We
tasted edible blood, learnt
about the skeletal and
muscular systems. We even
tested our heart-rate using
professional equipment!
Positivity has been our core value
for this week. We have been
learning to look on the bright
side of every situation.
We have reminded ourselves of
the meaning of our British
Values: democracy, rule of law,
respect, equality, tolerance and
liberty.

Please check for letters

Please hand in the reply
slips about the Maths

The Mouse’.
We have started writing a
play-script that retells the
story from the point of view
of the hunter.
We have been learning about
place value: how to read, write
and represent numbers so we can
identify the value of each digit.
We are also practising out 2, 5
and 10x tables.
The human brain has a memory
capacity which is the
equivalent of more than four
terabytes on a hard drive.
The children have continued
learning about the three phases
of a warmup: The pulse raiser,
stretching and sport specific
exercises.
The children have learnt how to
introduce themselves with some
simple phrases. They are now
beginning to practise saying some
further words and sentences.
The children are really
excited about the new Time

learning! Has your child signed
up yet?
Aspiration has been our core
value for this week. We have
been celebrating when people
have kept going and not given up,
even when things were hard.
We have reminded ourselves of
the meaning of our British
Values: democracy, rule of law,
respect, equality, tolerance and
liberty.
