God’s Purpose for Christmas

What did Jesus have to do before he enter into this world?

Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:

And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:

That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

1. He abandoned a sovereign position.2. He accepted a slave’s place.3. He associated with sinful people.4. He adopted a selfless posture.5. He ascended a supreme Prince.

Reputation is from the Greek word kenoo ̄ which means to empty.

A Manger Full of Dragon Drool

And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars: And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered.

And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads.

And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.

And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne.

The birth of Jesus is more than just a holiday, it is a part of the bigger picture of God’s plan.

The Reason for the Season

To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:Ecclesiastes 3:1

Luke 2:1-20

And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed. (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)

And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)

To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.

And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn. And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.

And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger. And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.

And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds. But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.

And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.

A Time For Celebration

…Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in itPsalms 118:24

A Time For Salvation

For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,Galatians 4:4

A Time For Reconciliation

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

…we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.Romans 5:11

The most expensive gift you will ever received. Priceless!

The only gift you will ever received that last forever!

The most practical gift you will ever receive. You can use this EVERY DAY!

1. Are you celebrating the salvation that God has provided through His Son Jesus – so that you could be reconciled with God?

2. Are you sharing the gift God gave you with others?
