Click to begin

LEVEL 1How old is Mr. Patterson?

A. 30-39 years B. 40-49 years

D. 60-69 yearsC. 50-59 years

CORRECTON TO COMMENTARY

TRY AGAIN

Hopefully this was your last choice. If it wasn’t and you happen to think I look over fifty, please don’t tell me, as I am very sensitive.

Here I am in 1949…..one year old.

LEVEL 2Where did Mr. Patterson go to College?

A. IU & Yale B. Taylor and IU

D. BYU & MichiganC. IU & Ball State

CORRECTON TO COMMENTARY

TRY AGAIN

Actually I attended Trinity College in Chicago for one year before transferring to Taylor University. I received my bachelors degree in art education from Taylor in 1971. In 1972 I was hired by BCSC to teach art. I began working towards my masters degree at IU in the summer of 1974 and completed it in 1977.

Graduation from Taylor University 1971.

LEVEL 3My art teacher?

A. Gets red when he gets mad.

B. Throws things whenhe gets mad.

D. Looks the samewhen he’s happy

as when he’s mad.

C. Yells when he gets mad.

TRY AGAIN

CORRECTON TO COMMENTARY

When I’m having a good day

When I’m ticked off

So beware, don’t think you’re getting away with something just because I don’t appear to be angry with you.

LEVEL 4My art teacher went to high school with?

A. Hillary Clinton B. Jimi Hendrix

D. Nobody FamousC. Richard Lugar

CORRECTON TO COMMENTARY

TRY AGAIN

Both Hillary and I attend Maine South H. S. in Park Ridge, IL. I was a sophomore when Hillary was a senior. We ran in different circles and didn’t know one another. However, just think what would have happened if we had met. Hillary obviously would have fallen madly in love with me and pursued me until I agreed to marry her. Then she would have pestered me to become President. And what about poor Bill Clinton, who would he find to marry? And would he have ever become President?

LEVEL 5Mr. Patterson was in?

A. The Army B. The Navy

D. The Future Farmersof America

C. The Boy Scouts

TRY AGAIN

CORRECTON TO COMMENTARY

In 1970 America was in the midst of the Viet Nam War and the draft lottery was enacted. My number was 88, which meant I would be drafted as soon as I graduated from Taylor University. To avoid the draft and a high percentage chance of going to Viet nam I enlisted in the Naval Air Reserves. I was a reservist throughout my early teaching years, from 1971 to 1977. My job in the Navy was entitled, “aviations structural mechanic”, which meant I pounded rivets into airplanes.

See me in my uniform.

Bootcamp graduation Fall of 1971. Can you find me?

LEVEL 6When attending high school Mr. Patterson was?

A. The class clownB. A below average

student

D. A wild childC. An honor student

TRY AGAIN

CORRECTON TO COMMENTARY

If you first selected “wild child” or “class clown” that means you think I was a trouble maker and should be ashamed of yourself for making such rash judgments about me. If you on the other hand selected “honor student” that means you’re a logical person who picked what obviously seemed correct. The truth however, is that I was a poor student. I mention this not for the purpose of putting myself down, but to illustrate a point, which is, success comes to those who are willing to work. Thankfully, I saw the light and started working at it.

Comments from my forth grade teacher.

By my Senior year I was still distracted, but look at that grading scale.

LEVEL 7Mr. Patterson’s wife?

A. Is a teacher at Southside

B. Is so beautifulpeople wonder why she

married Mr. P

D. All of the aboveC. Thinks about Mr. P

every second of the day

CORRECTON TO COMMENTARY

TRY AGAIN

This just goes to show that good fortune comes to everyone every once in a while. Luckily Hillary never ensnared me, so I was free to court my true honey pie.

LEVEL 8Which of the following did Mr. Patterson do?

A. Ride a bicycle across Europe

B. Swim the English Channel

D. None of the aboveC. Compete in the 1968 Olympics

CORRECTON TO COMMENTARY

TRY AGAIN

During the summer of 1971 I rode with a bicycling group called “Wandering Wheels”. Before flying to Belgium to begin our trip, we all met in New York where we were presented the key to the city. Once in Belgium we began a six week trip that took us through nine countries. The total distance we rode was 3000 miles. We averaged between 80 and 100 miles a day. The entire trip was filmed by a professional travel photographer. Every once in a while his film still shows up on television.

LEVEL 9If I wore a shirt to school that had inappropriate materials

on it Mr. Patterson would?

A. Say, “Hey cool shirt, where did you

get it?

B. Mock you in frontof the class.

D. Send you to the deanAnd call your parents.

C. Ask you to go and turn it inside out.

CORRECTON TO COMMENTARY

TRY AGAIN

That’s right, we would settle the matter between us. I have no desire to talk with your parents about what you wear to school and the deans are too busy to be bothered with your poor choices in clothing. Also, even though you made a stupid choice, I don’t think you deserve to be made fun of in front of others. So the moral of the story is, if you don’t like wearing your T-shirts inside out, don’t wear shirts with inappropriate messages.

Example of poor shirt choice & consequence.

Mr. Bird, you have made a poor choice in wardrobe today.

Mr. Bird, you now have a much better look, it may even become a new fashion trend.

LEVEL 10Mr. Patterson has?

A. A hard timeadmitting he’s wrong.

B. A violent temper.

D. A longing tobe an administrator.

C. A tendency to bestubborn.

CORRECTON TO COMMENTARY

TRY AGAIN

First of all, I have no desire to be an administrator creating piles and piles of charts and papers. So if you though I was someone wanting to create the master plan you were wrong. Second, I don’t have a temper. Perhaps that’s because I have a personality that prohibits emotional outbursts. Third, I have no problem admitting when I’m wrong. I guess that’s because when your wrong as much as I am it’s just easier just to admit it. What this all means then is that I’m a stubborn person. At times this is a good trait, like when I’m trying to solve a problem, but at other times, like letting go of a bad idea, it can cause problems.

LEVEL 11How does Mr. Patterson Grade?

A. Only gives A’s to 10%

B. Keeps them happyand gives everyone A’s

D. Gives A’s to girls and C’s to boys

C. Gives everyone what they earn

CORRECTON TO COMMENTARY

TRY AGAIN

That’s right, if everyone works hard enough to earn an “A” we all make “A’s” and if no one works, we could all make “F’s”. Typically though, about one third of the class will make “A’s”, one third “B’s” and one third “C’s, D’s and F’s”. If you want to be in the group making “A’s & B’s just work hard, ask questions and don’t waste time.

LEVEL 12What will Mr. Patterson do if you have excessive tardies?

A. Turn it over to the dean

B. Yell and screamat you

D. Deduct 5% fromyour final grade

C. Assign you afterschool detention

CORRECTON TO COMMENTARY

TRY AGAIN

I seldom give detention because that penalizes me as well as you. I end up having to track you down to make sure the detention was completed and then do endless paperwork if it wasn’t done. Yelling and screaming never seems to work for me, nor does deducting points from your grade, which I don’t believe I’m allowed to do anyway for tardies. So then, what I will do is warn you on the first four tardies and then on the fifth turn you over to the deans. The deans will then assign you one day of ISS.

Your discipline notice will look like this.

LEVEL 13Mr. Patterson’s father?

A. Was a preacher B. Was a farmer

D. Was a heavyequipment operator

C. Was a careersoldier

CORRECTON TO COMMENTARY

TRY AGAIN

That’s right, I’m a preacher’s kid. People say that our kind tend to turn out either very good or very bad. You’ll have to decide what happened to me.

Preacher’s kid at play…….it looks bad, but it was actually a church activity.

LEVEL 14Mr. Patterson eats his lunch?

A. In the cafeteria B. In his room

D. At Taco BellC. In the teacher’s

lounge

CORRECTON TO COMMENTARY

TRY AGAIN

You’ll find me eating in my room. I avoid cafeteria food, because it makes me fat. I also avoid the teacher’s lounge, because the topic of conversation is always school. I bring my lunch and eat it in the quite tranquility of my room.

I also try to eat healthy………no fast food.

LEVEL 15Mr. Patterson believes?

A. All are equallytalented in art.

B. Art is only for agifted elite.

D. None of the above C. Art doesn’t affectmany peoples lives.

CORRECTON TO COMMENTARY

TRY AGAIN

I don’t believe art is an enigma that few understand. If that’s what you believe, hopefully this class will break down that perception; as well as to show how art influences all of our lives, whether we know it or not. As for art talent, here’s how I see it. In a math class some students are naturally gifted and catch on much faster than others. Those who lag behind often find that they have to work harder to keep up. The same is true in art, some students are more gifted than others and those who are less skilled have to work harder. Not having highly developed art skills however, is never a satisfactory excuse for not working.

LEVEL 16Mr. Patterson was born in?

A. New York City B. Saginaw, MI

D. Rehoboth, DEC. Columbus, IN

CORRECTON TO COMMENTARY

TRY AGAIN

I was born in Saginaw, Michigan, but at the age of two moved with my family to Lansing, the home of Michigan State University. When I was six we moved to Park Ridge, a suburb of Chicago.

Lansing, Michigan

Park Ridge, Illinois

LEVEL 17The main reason some students fail Mr. Patterson’s class is?

A. They vandalize hisCar.

B. They act likewise guys.

D. They have pushyparents.

C. They don’t turn inassignments.

CORRECTON TO COMMENTARY

TRY AGAIN

Vandalism, wise guy behavior and pushy parents would all be very irritating to me if they happened, but in the end, would have no influence on your grade. Failure to turn in work however is another story.

Don’t do this to my car!

LEVEL 18What will Mr. Patterson do to students who act up in class?

A. First warn, thenassign detention.

B. Warn, warn, warn & continue warning.

D. Warn once, twice, then send to dean.

C. Throw thingsat them.

CORRECTON TO COMMENTARY

TRY AGAIN

I get rather tired of issuing warnings for bad behavior, so it’s best not to push your luck when I tell you that something you’re doing is bothering me.

LEVEL 19What does Mr. Patterson do on Sunday mornings?

A. Goes to church. B. Sleeps.

D. Meditates in his Lazyboy chair.

C. Eats breakfast atHomefolks.

CORRECTON TO COMMENTARY

TRY AGAIN

I don’t have a Lazyboy chair. Home Folks is too crowded on Sunday mornings. Sleep is very appealing, but church is where you will find me.

LEVEL 20Mr. Patterson’s favorite Summer activity is?

A. Sleeping B. Fishing

D. TravelingC. Reading

CORRECTON TO COMMENTARY

TRY AGAIN

My father took me fishing when I was just a little boy. We would fish for small pan fish, bluegills and the like. One day however, I managed to hook and land a large Northern Pike. For a boy of about five it was a monster. From that day on fishing became my thing.

LEVEL 21Which of the following isn’t something

that irritates Mr. Patterson?

A. Students who are always asking to leave

class: restroom, locker, drink, etc.

B. Students who bringfood into the classroom

D. Students who tryto manipulate him

for extra points.C. Students who ask

lots of questions.

CORRECTON TO COMMENTARY

TRY AGAIN

Questions to me indicate your interested, so ask away. Just don’t ask questions about leaving class, eating food, or manipulating points.

LEVEL 22Which of the following is a favorite quote of Mr. Patterson?

D. All of the above

A. Learn by doing.

C. Great mindstalk about ideas;average minds

talk about events;small minds

talk about people.

B. Genius is 1% inspiration and 99%

Perspiration.

CORRECTON TO COMMENTARY

TRY AGAIN

There’s nothing to say here, they are all great quotes.

LEVEL 23When he was younger Mr. Patterson?

A. Played guitar ina rock group called,“The Grim Reapers”

B. Worked as achicken plucker.

D. None of the aboveC. Was the starting quarterback for hishigh school team.

CORRECTON TO COMMENTARY

TRY AGAIN

What an awesome band, or so we thought. We played songs like, “Louie, Louie”, “Time Is On My Side” and when fuzz tone became the thing, “Heart Full of Sole”. Now, if you don’t know any of these songs, you might ask your parents, or start listening to an oldies but goodies channel.

LEVEL 24If you have a problem, Mr. Patterson will?

A. Tell you to take itto the Montel Williams

Show.

B. Listen to you andthen tell all your friends

D. Be willing to listenand give the best

advice he can.

C. Tell you to stopWhining.

CORRECTON TO COMMENTARY

TRY AGAIN

I’m not a professional councilor, but I do have a lot of common sense.

LEVEL 25Mr. Patterson has?

A. A dog that catches fish while swimming

underwater.

B. A weird sense of humor.

D. Lots of phobias thatcause him to act funny.

C. A large bald spot he covers with fake hair.

CORRECTON TO COMMENTARY

TRY AGAIN

I act funny, but not because of phobias. I don’t have a dog that can catch fish while swimming under water, but I would like to. My hair is all my own. So I guess I must have a weird sense of humor. In fact, it’s so weird people seldom get my jokes.

That’s it, now you know all about me.
