INTRODUCTION
The Hotel Technology Summit concluded successfully on 21 March 2016 at
the Al Faisaliah Hotel. The summit was organised by Naseba in association with
Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals (HFTP). Over 100 Chief
Executive Officers, Managing Directors, Chief Information Officers, General
Managers, Procurement and Revenue Management Directors met to discuss
their challenges and share their best practices.
Under the theme ‘Leveraging Technology. Enhancing guest experience.
Increasing profitability’, the agenda comprised of keynote presentations, case
study examples, panel discussions and interactive workshops.

OVERVIEW Naveen Bharadwaj, Production Manager at Naseba, welcomed
the attendees and emphasised the hospitality industry’s rapid
transformation through the implementation of the most advanced
and cutting-edge technologies. Hatem Gasmi, Owner and Managing
Director at Auris Group of Hotels and the summit’s Chairperson,
highlighted the transformation of the entire hospitality industry in
the Middle East.
Mohammed Almojel, Chairman of the Tourism Committee at Riyadh
Chamber of Commerce & Industry (RCCI) underlined the important
role of implementing the up to date technology in the hospitality
industry to attract new visitors to the Kingdom.
David Henry, VP of Marketing, Sales and Distribution at Accor,
spoke about the technological impact on internal and external
communications, guest experience and hotel internal organization.
An interactive panel on how hotels can meet the expectations of
business and religious travellers attracted a lot of attention. The
presenters Hatem Gasmi, David Henry and Denis Sorin, President of
Hotel Operations at Dur Hospitality.
After the first panel discussion, Abdullah Alswaha, Deputy
General Manager at Cisco delivered a presentation on
«Hospitality transformation powered by digitization».
The second panel discussion revolved around disruptive
technologies for enhancing guest experience and offering
personalised services. The session was joined by Joe Rahim,
Development Manager at Riyada International Hotels & Resorts,
John Rees, Senior Director of Operations MENA at Marriott
International and Gabriel Karam, Channel Sales Director at
Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise.
During the 90-minute networking break, prescheduled and ad hoc
meetings were conducted between the delegates and the solution
providers, all based on the current and future technology needs of
the delegates.
Immediately after the break, the participants witnessed three highly
interesting interactive parallel workshops run by Sherif Ismail,
Business Development Manager at Cisco, Ismail Alkamal, Managing
Director at Nawatt and Paolo Persico, CEO at Scent Company.
Mohanad Abakar, Solutions Architect at SimpliVity, welcomed the
audience back and delivered a presentation on how a CIO can
refine operations and create enterprise-wide efficiencies to fund
innovation.
The third panel discussion of the summit elaborated on how
the implementation and convergence embracing of cloud-based
technologies, mobile applications and social platforms positively
impact hotels and provide additional platforms to attract and retain
customers. Syed Jalaludeen, Regional Director of Information
Technology at Hyatt International, Ahmed Abdel Raouf, Area
Director of Information Technology at Al Khozama Management
Company, Osama Al-Zoubi, Chief Technology Officer at Cisco and
Mohamed Gharib, Director of Information Technology at Burj Rafal
Hotel Kempinski. were the panellists.
The closing panel discussion hosted Austine Jarome, Director of
Purchasing at Al Khozama Management Company, Tarek Lotfy,
Regional Director of Revenue Management at Golden Tulip MENA
and Sam Achampong, General Manager at Chartered Institute
of Procurement and Supply MENA. The panellists explored the
technology innovations and IT solutions that are complimenting
revenue generation and procurement, and some of the leading
technologies and techniques supporting hospitality sales and
marketing.
The summit concluded with open business meetings.
