Gulfview Heights Primary School “Working Together to reach New Heights”

Australian Curriculum & Reporting

All staff continue to engage in relevant

professional learning activities that support

them in implementing the Australian

Curriculum consistently.

This year our focus has been on designing

learning experiences that are engaging yet

challenging for all learners, assessment and

moderation to ensure we are providing

consistent judgement and feedback on

student progress.

As teachers at Gulfview Heights Primary are

planning, teaching and assessing using the

Australian Curriculum, our Mid Year Reports

will report against the Australian Curriculum

Achievement Standards in all areas. Both the

Mid and End of year reports will provide you

with an A-E grade, indicating your child’s

level of achievement in relation to their year

level standard, an effort rating and a general

comment particularly in the areas of English

and Mathematics. Your child’s mid year

report should also identify their learning

goals for the remainder of the year.

We encourage you to obtain further

information on the Australian Curriculum by

access ing the ACARA webs i te

www.acara.edu.au, speaking with your

child’s teacher and attending future school

information sessions held for families.

National SSO Week

Last week was National Support Staff Week.

This week celebrates and acknowledges the

diverse work of our SSO’s( School Service

Officers) and AEW’s (Aboriginal Education

Workers) and how they contribute to the

ongoing success of our school community.

All our SSO’s & AEW’s are an amazing

group of people who make life so much

easier for the rest of us. They help clean the

school, move classes, get messages to

students, welcome visitors to our school,

provide learning and emotional support for

our students, attend to administration tasks

and make sure teachers have all the

necessary equipment and resources, as well

as offer care and first aid just to name a few.

Our SSO team are amazing at how they fit in

and compliment the caring nature and

culture of our school. At times, we risk taking

them for granted and failing to acknowledge

their outstanding contributions and impact on

the smooth running of our school.

Please join our staff in acknowledging their

contributions by simply saying “Thank You”

in passing or writing a brief note in your

child’s communication book. The staff will be

having a special morning tea on

Wednesday May 29th and providing all

our SSO’s & AEW’s with a certificate of

thanks and card from one of the classes.

To all our wonderful Support Staff:

Thankyou for your professionalism, your

resilience and sense of humour in everything

you do!

Parent Complaint Policy/Grievance Procedure

Our Grievance Procedures incorporate the new Parent

Complaint Policy procedures for responding to issues of

concern.

A copy of this policy is available on our school website

www.ghps.sa.edu.au by following the links:

General Information > Policies/Documents > Parent

Complaint Policy.

It is important to remember that we endeavour to resolve all

issues of concern at the school level. In the first instance, we

ask you to speak to your child’s teacher or the Principal if you

would like further information or follow up regarding any

concerns. Alternatively, write a note via your child’s

communication book or a letter marked confidential and

addressed to the Principal. We will endeavour to respond to

all concerns within 2 working days.

Thanking you for your willingness to work co-operatively in the

best interest of our students, staff and families.

Attendance Improvement

We would like to take this opportunity to remind you that when

children are away for whatever reason, you must contact the

school to inform us of their absence. Please write a note and

give it to the classroom teacher upon your child’s return to

school. Alternatively use the absentee note under Parent

eForms on the school app. or inform the class teacher or

front office staff in person. The school requires a reason for

each absence in order to update our records.

Did you realise…

Late arrival at school through the primary years is often

related to non-attendance during secondary school.

Missing 1 day a week of school from Reception to year

10 means missing 2 years and 1 term of schooling.

Being half an hour late to school each day from

Reception to Year 10 equals missing 1 year and one

and a half terms of schooling.

Being absent 5 days a term from Reception to Year 10

adds up to more than one year of missed schooling.

Street Parking ‘Kiss n Drop’ Reminder

We remind all users of the ‘kiss n drop’ zone that drivers

should not leave their vehicle unattended, and that 2-3 minutes

is sufficient time for passengers to board or exit the vehicle.

This is intended to have a flow on effect allowing many

vehicles to use this space and increase parking availability

beyond this zone.

National Volunteer Week

In recognition of National Volunteer’s Week we would like to

extend a huge thank you to all our dedicated volunteers.

Without your generosity we would be unable to offer our

students such rich and diverse experiences.

Student Safety

In the interest of student safety, families are reminded to follow all parking and speed restrictions around the school at

pick up and drop off time.

Speed limits must be adhered to at all times.

At no time should cars be parked on solid yellow lines or

over driveways.

Failure to adhere to parking and speed restrictions may

result in fines being issued by SAPOL or Salisbury Council.

Canteen Reminder

Parents/Carers please make sure when lunches are provided

that use a spoon or fork is also given in the lunch box when

required. The canteen have limited stock

available for use with lunch orders only.

Families are reminded that school fees are now overdue.

If you have not paid or contacted the front office to organise

a payment plan please do so as soon as possible.

If you are experiencing difficulty with fee payments please

contact Alana, Kylie or Julie through the Front Office. We are

happy to negotiate instalment plans to help ease any

potential financial burden on families.
