1. EXHIBITION BACKGROUNDcomiX eXchange Series
Taking Comix Home Base as a testing ground, local comics artists and creators working in other artistic fields are bringing about comiX eXchange, a series of six exhibitions of massive innovation exchange. Based on the theme "Experienced Artist x Emerging Artist" and “Comics Artist X Artist of Other Media”, six pairs of participating artists will come up with cross-media creations that foster new ways of viewing comics.
Presented by Hong Kong Arts Centre and Comix Home Base under the sponsorship of Create Hong Kong of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, comiX eXchange not only make artists from different disciplines and backgrounds come together and collaborate, but also calls for public participation. In addition to exhibitions, there will be master classes and workshops in which artists share their works and experiences. People interested in joining the creative profession are invited to take part and experiment with the multiplying effect of creative crossover.
The remaining two comiX eXchange exhibitions scheduled to take place in 2016 promise to surprise the public with their thematic showcases. Revolving around the theme “Maze of Love”, the fifth comiX eXchange is presented jointly by veteran of romance comics Jeffrey Lau and figurine artist Miloza Ma, who speak aloud their views on romantic love through their creations.
1. EXHIBITION BACKGROUNDcomiX eXchange Series
A prolific comics artist, Jeffrey establishes his fame with his romance series Feel 100% and has recently published such works as HAPPY TENNIS, Mysterious Man and Guia in Love. His portrayal of romance – be it a story about the on-off relationships of young lovers or a complicated love triangle – is always captivatingly realistic. His collaborator, Miloza, is a young female creator dedicated to illustration, character and figurine design. While illustrating what she thinks about relationships, she also expresses her views on the universe. The two of them transform Comix Home Base into a “Maze of Love” – in which visitors are encouraged to imagine themselves being in love, experiencing the sweetness, confusion and sense of lost that one may feel in a relationship via their cross-media works. The pre-determined love endings they eventually reveal may ring a bell with you or inspire you to reflect on the meaning of love.
2. EXHIBITION DETAILSExhibition Period: 20 January 2016 – 21 February 2016
Time: Monday to Sunday (10am – 8 pm)
Venue: Exhibition Venue & Multi- Function Rooms 3-7,
3/F, Comix Home Base
3. ATTENDANCE
During the entire exhibition period, headcount was done at the 3/F. Attendance record is as follows:
3/F Exhibition Venue : 5,178 (3,640)
4. ARTIST’S PROFILE – LAU WAN KIT
Lau Wan-kit, also known as Jeffrey, is a famous Hong Kong comics artist.
Jeffrey graduated from the Department of Design of the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education in 1982. He became an artist-in-chief for local comics in 1988 and published his first solo work, Interlude, in 1991. His signature comics series, Feel 100%, published between 1992 and 2007, was adapted into several films and TV dramas, which quickly attracted a huge following among young people. Feel 100% was so successful that not only did it appeal to local audience but also earned overseas recognition – in 2008, the comics, entering The 2nd International Manga Award presented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, was selected from among all the 368 entries, which came from 46 countries and regions, to receive the Gold Award. In 2009, Jeffrey published a sports comics called HAPPY TENNIS and was awarded the Chief Executive’s Commendation for Community Service by the Hong Kong SAR Government in the same year.
4. ARTIST’S PROFILE – LAU WAN KIT
In 2011, he released another comics called Mysterious Man while working on his illustration series FACELOOK in Skypost. The year 2012 marked another move in his career as he founded his own company – Mystery Studio. In 2013, he served as the host of the art and magic section of Gorilla Study Group, a programme of Television Broadcast Limited (TVB). In 2015, he collaborated with an experienced tennis coach for SMART TENNIS, in addition to publishing his illustrated adaptation of the film Guia in Love.
In recent years, Jeffrey has been invited by universities, vocational institutes, secondary schools and primary schools to host seminars and participate in exchange activities. As a comics artist, he has also spared no effort in promoting culture, arts and the creative industry.
4. ARTIST’S PROFILE – MILOZA MA
While being an illustrator and character designer, Miloza never confines herself to two-dimensional art but also devotes herself to figure making to turn her illustrated characters into physical reality. She often finds inspirations from her two obsessions – the Universe and New Age Theology – to conjure up new images and new concepts.
4. ARTIST’S PROFILE – MILOZA MAMiloza established her own brand, Brain Child, in 2010. Her mini-exhibition in 2013 marked the beginning of her full-time devotion to artistic creation. Miloza’s three-dimensional works received awards at Hong Kong Figure Design Competition twice and were featured at Taipei Toy Festival for a number of times. Named as “one of the ten promising artists” by East Touch Magazine in 2015, she contributed a comic strip to the magazine’s sequential collaborative comics feature. She also collaborated with Open Quote, a creative bookstore, for the comics and exhibition project h-y-p-h-e-n and designed an animated logo for Radio Television Hong Kong. Besides, Miloza is one of the featured illustrators of AAD Outstanding Illustration Artists in Asia 2016, which will be published in Taiwan.
At present, Miloza is seeking to further explore the uncharted territories of the universe and the human soul through art.
5. THE EXHIBITION (3/F – EXHIBITION VENUE)
Maze of Love
For the artists, a relationship is like a maze – fun but cruel and can entrap you in irresolvable dilemmas. The two artists express their personal reflections on love, presenting an interactive exhibition that allows us to speculate three stages of a relationship. Along the way are forks and junctions that form a closed loop, taking you to experience romantic encounters and eventually the possible ends of the pursuit of romance.
5. THE EXHIBITION (3/F – EXHIBITION VENUE)
The Start of Maze of Love
The maze started with 3/F Exhibition Venue, “Revisit the first Encounter”. The participating artists
reflected on the beginning on romance and illustrate four places where romantic encounters take place, inviting us to enter the maze of love.
5. THE EXHIBITION (3/F MULTI-FUNCTION ROOM 5 & 7)
The Junctions: Compromise in Relationship
The artists discussed about creation and also exchange their views on romantic love as they
collaborate with each other, depicting for us the so-called shackles of love from various
perspectives. Whether a bond is tightened or loosened depends on how you view it. Look to your
left and your right for the interpretations the artists offer.
5. THE EXHIBITION (3/F MULTI-FUNCTION ROOM 3)
End: Explore the Endings / Decide the Ending
There is never a definite conclusion to the discussion of the philosophy of love; likewise, there are more one than
one exit points in a maze. Make your choice of path and listen to the artists’ confession. Take some time to write
down your own interpretation of love.
5. THE EXHIBITION (3/F MULTI-FUNCTION ROOM 3)
End: Explore the Endings / Decide the Ending

可加強宣傳
Better promotion is needed ...
more promotion
