How do you present yourself to a potential

employer?

GOALS OF THE PROJECT    

To use the Internet as a research tool to locate information about “how to present yourself to a potential employer.” Find information about preparing for interview questions, appearance, manners and etiquette, the ‘interview’ presentation, and follow-up.

Choose between:

• Design and present a PowerPoint presentation of the finished product.

• Design a newsletter (Publisher) to inform other students on ‘how to present yourself to a potential employer.’

• Design a web page that reflects information and tips on ‘presenting yourself to an employer’.

How do you prepare yourself for a job interview? 

The Internet is a wonderful source to gather information about this topic. In this activity you will have an opportunity to gather information, tips, and pictures via the Internet, copy/paste the results into one of a variety of software products.

Choices will include: 1) a PowerPoint presentation; 2) a Microsoft Publisher document creating a newsletter to inform other students about your topic; or 3) create a web page that will include pictures and information you have gathered.

PROCEDURE(Part 1)

Locate information on how to present yourself to an employer.

Use the Internet as a tool to search for interviews, presenting yourself, interviewing tips, etc.Use a search engine such as: yahoo.com

Open up PowerPoint, and begin with an outline or storyboard of your plan (using left frame of PowerPoint). Include: • introduction of your topic • picture(s), tips, etc.

Save the presentation as interview presentation before proceeding.

Next, let's go fill in the blank pages that contain your main ideas, as follows:

Find a picture(s) relating to your topic, and copy/paste it into your PowerPoint presentation. • Be sure to copy/paste the URL (location of the website) • Be sure to save your presentation regularly.

PROCEDURE(Part 1 Continued)

After locating information you need for your presentation, • copy/paste this information into your presentation.

Be sure to save your presentation regularly.

At this point, your Presentation may be looking a little awkward, with some misplaced slides.  Go into the 'slide sorter' and re-arrange the slides into a logical order.

Create a 'Cite Sources' page as the last page in your PowerPoint presentation.

It should include: • the name of all the websites you used in your presentation. • the URL's (web addresses) of all the above sites. • the name of any downloaded files you used in this project (i.e., amortization)

This concludes the PowerPoint piece of the project, so be prepared to display your presentation.

PROCEDURE(Part 2)

Part 2: Create a newsletter in Publisher

Create a one or two page newsletter of your topic in Microsoft Publisher.

Be sure to include picture(s), tips, information, etc.

Print a hardcopy of your newsletter.

PROCEDURE(Part 3)

Part 3:   Build a Web Page

Create a web page to share information on your topic' that includes: • title page • picture(s) • appearance • Manners and etiquette• Sample interview questions • cite references

You may wish to use information from your previous PowerPoint Presentation.

Save the the web page as:   Interview.html

Be prepared to share your web page with your classmates.
