ALKYNES

Alkyne: Any of the series of unsaturated hydro

carbons, containing a triple bond.

Alkynes have a molecular geometry that is linear with

a bond angle of 180 degrees.

Sigma bond: strongest type of covalent chemical bond.

Pi bond: covalent bond between two neighboring

atom's unbounded p-orbitals.

FUN FACT

Alkynes have been used in

several medications such

as an anti-fungal,

antiretrovirals, and even

an anti-tumor drug if

bonded with an Alkene

first.

Generic Pill Size and Shape Could Determine Whether Patient will

Adhere to Medication Regimen by Justin Caba

CONCLUSION

What makes Alkynes special is there ability to form the

Carbon triple bond.

Each triple bond can only have one sigma bond and

two pi bonds.

Triple bonds cannot rotate as freely due to the added

electrons.

The molecular shape of alkynes is linear.
