“Banned in Boston” In June of 2011, the President and the Dean of Boston College told Father Ed Vacek to leave his tenured position in the School of Theology and Ministry. He was not accused of any wrongdoing, just told to “Go Away!” Father Vacek, a Jesuit priest for 50 years, enjoyed success in the classroom. He was helpful companion and counselor to many over his 30 years at Boston College. Many friends, students and colleagues are outraged by Father Vacek’s banishment. “Banned in Boston” is our response to his unfair dismissal, his bravery to not always go “by the book”, his alienation from an ”old-boy network” and his hope for the future. Inspired by Father Vacek’s journey, we dance the pathways of radical prophet, compassionate healer, tireless peacemaker and believer in new beginnings.
