As collecting grows from that beginning crossroad of curiosity and interest to a serious willingness to wait for and invest in the next unnamed acquisition, we may find ourselves traveling off in different directions.

Collecting in its purest form is fluid so perhaps what piqued our interest in the beginning years of our efforts may stay with us as we refine what speaks to us, or we may discover other genres that bring to us a newfound enjoyment.

What we collect over the years may change, but how we do so should remain constant.

As collectors, it should be more than monetary value that compels us to step up for a piece, as certainly no one has a crystal ball to foretell the future of the possible value of something decades from now.

Instead, collecting must always start with how something speaks to our heart. It must thrill us. It must be something we simply love and that which we absolutely cannot live without. We must begin with listening to how we really feel about it in order to make an honest decision for ourselves.

As advisors, we too must always walk the road of honesty, but in a much different framework.

For those of us who have tremendous pride in what we do, it is about educating our clients, about treating them respectfully, always being forthcoming about the history and condition and restoration, if any, of a piece and whether all those factors give us enough of a belief to advise them to acquire it. Most important of all, it always begins and ends with our making a life long and truthful connection with our clients, now and always, irrespective of the monetary gain it may bring to us.

We as advisors are just the temporary custodians of these great, magnificent and historical pieces that we are fortunate to briefly hold in our hands. Given that privilege, it is always and only about the integrity of our behavior that matters most of all.

We owe our clients that honesty for the faith they place in our guidance, as this is the mantle we take up without stepping back from that belief. It return, they continue to honor us with their patronage, which is the true reward of all our efforts, both large and small.

Herewith is a sampling of our latest discoveries.
