A little something Extra…Did you know that the Haitian's have their own flag day! Before the picture at the bottom became Haiti’s flag, they used the same flag as France, who they went to war with. A man named Toussaint Louverture realized that it did not make sense to use the same flag as their enemies. So… he created his on flag that had a African American's head in the middle on a white cloth. Eventually the army went back to its regular flag which is blue and red.

Politics and Government

The leader of Haiti is Rene Preval. He has named a replacement for the role of a prime minister after Michele Pierre-Louis was voted out of office.

Haiti's constitution was made on May 20th 1805. The three branches of government are: Legislative, Administrative, executive, Judicial, and Chamber of deputies.

ColonizationHaiti was colonized. It became a French colony in 1697. In 1689 Haiti was colonized by the French. On January 1st , 1804 Haiti got their independence. Haiti was the second country to declare independence. They got their independence by war. The majority of the people who fought in the war for independence were slaves. The war of independence affected Haiti in their agriculture, land development, natural resources, trade, ETC.

Why my country is Developing?

Haiti still remains one of the most poorest countries in the world. It is the least developed in the Western Hemisphere.
