WinGD & TECHNAVA Seminar & Cocktail Reception at Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center In view of a very successful cooperation start-up, TECHNAVA and WINGD organized a seminar on 12th of September 2017 at Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center, Faros Hall, to present a series of developments adopted on the new generation of Winterthur Gas & Diesel engines (WinGD—ex Sulzer).

An audience of more than 500 executives/people from Greek & Cypriot Maritime community was presented in WinGD X-series Engines, Low pressure Dual fuel engines, Tier III Solutions, China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) Marine Service Company and Digital Solutions of WinGD (Data Collection Monitoring - DCM along with Engine Diagnostic System-EDS). The presentations included the key characteristics on X and X-DF Engines, the inauguration of the state of the art WinGD/TECHNAVA Training Centre with Simulators for RT-flex/ X engines in Schisto and the benefits of Data Collection Monitoring and Engine Diagnostic System.

Training centre – Simulator in Piraeus The new state of the art Training Centre with W-Xpert Full Mission Engine Room Simulator already installed at TECHNAVA premises in Schisto Industrial Park, was presented during the seminar. The simulator is designed for training marine engineers, technical staff of Owners and Operators, as well as students of maritime schools and academies and is a next step to the modern and time efficient training, including exercises and coordination in several locations of a Virtual Engine Room. Data Collection Monitoring (DCM) & Engine Diagnostic System (EDS) The Digital Solutions of WinGD will collect data onboard, analyse and thus provide diagnostics & enable predictive maintenance. Benefits of DCM & EDS include Engine and ship data acquisition, storage on board, internet access to data, data transmission & storage to shore, visualization on board and cylinder pressure monitoring. EDS is using a 3-level analysis, consisting of physical model (thermodynamic), know-how based (component diagnostics) and data analytics (machine learning, artificial intelligence). Ultimately, the Engine Diagnostic Tool will allow to reduce unplanned stoppage, save fuel cost (by performance optimization), provide troubleshooting, extend and predict TBOs, access Remote Operational Support, Virtual Training Offline, spare parts & Field Service. WinGD electronically controlled X-Series and X-DF Engines Indicative advantages pinpointed are the original Common Rail system, the higher scavenge-air pressure, the effective coping against Cold Corrosion (Pulse Lubricating System, New Cylinder liner design, Cylinder bypass cooling) and the Intelligent Combustion Control (Continuous monitoring of compression & peak cylinder pressure and optimizing engine operation). In addition, with regard to X-DF engines, it was emphasized that they do achieve TIER III NOx compliance when in Gas-mode without SCR (or other) treatment, due to “Otto Cycle” operation. Important advantages are the Low Pressure Gas Fuel System at max 16 bar(g), also resulting in Lower total Power Consumption and the Fuel Sharing Mode (from liquid to gas mode and vice-versa, in variable quantities and ratios). The pleasant evening was continued in the terrace of Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center in a cocktail reception with live music and a wonderful view of the Athenian landscape and seacoast.
